Search launched for semi-trailer after $10M in silver stolen from Port of Montreal
A shipping container stolen from Montreal's port this week may have been found in Repentigny, Que. — but the $10 million in silver inside of it at the time of the heist is nowhere to be found.
The Maersk container lifted from the port was found on Saturday afternoon on St-Paul Street in Repentigny, a small city just off the northeast tip of the island of Montreal.

It appears to have been detached from the semi-trailer — also stolen — that was carrying it, and left on the side of a residential street.
The brazen heist began on Wednesday, when one or more individuals stole a semi-trailer from Montreal's west end, drove it to the Port of Montreal, loaded a shipping container carrying 16 tonnes of silver onto it and then took off.
Police are still looking for the truck, a white 1997 Freightliner with the licence plate L548854.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 514-393-1133.

The press
The audacious theft of 16 tons of ingots and silver powder perpetrated last week in the Port of Montreal was initiated by the newly hired driver of a transport company who betrayed his employer, La Presse has learned.
According to our information, the driver was hired last August 19 by the company Pro Global Logistics, which makes the transport of containers in the port of Montreal, and so had all the necessary permits to enter port facilities and out.
He would have possessed such a "biometric card" that would have allowed him the morning of the flight, September 2, to cross without being bothered and noticed a security gate at the entrance of the harbor and another in Racine dock, where was the container. He even supplied a fingerprint and would have been captured.
Reportedly, the famous morning, his employer asked him to pick up another container, but the driver would rather directed to the Port of Montreal to seize, without permission, the container 26 pallets of ingots and money balls worth $ 13 million.
The driver, who had not been arrested or accused at the time of this writing, appears as a possible conspirator in one of the charges yesterday against two individuals arrested Wednesday night.
Montreal police and the Sûreté du Port of Montreal did not confirm the information of the Press. "All I can tell you is that for us it was a normal transaction. It was an input and an output of a truck assigned to a container and made according to the safety rules, "simply describes Sophie Roux, Vice President, Public Affairs of the Port of Montreal.
Besides the driver, the police are always looking for the stolen tractor which a photo was broadcast last Friday. It is a white 1997 Freightliner truck whose license plate is 854 L548.
The third found
During a dozen searches carried out in the evening and on Wednesday night in two warehouses in the West Island of Montreal, homes and cars, investigators in the area is the City's Police Department Montreal (SPVM) regained about 150 silver bullion stolen on the 500, and several bags of silver beads.
They also arrested five individuals, including two appeared yesterday at the courthouse in Montreal. Jaswinder Singh, 35, and Norberto Cordeiro, 49, were charged with theft, possession and trafficking of ingots and silver beads with a value of over $ 5,000. They were also accused of conspiring with four other people, Munir Abd El-Nour, Kenaan Abd El-Nour Jalal Nassar and the driver, said to steal balls and silver bullion. The first three have been arrested and released on a promise to appear.
Cordeiro has no criminal history, while Singh was sentenced to 12 months suspended sentence in 2010 for a sexual offense. However, Cordeiro is known to police. According to our information, it would have particularly been seen in a recent survey of a group of independent distributors of cocaine per kilo. However, it has not been arrested or charged. In the case of silver bullion, it could have acted as a buyer, according to sources. The prosecution objected to their release and bail hearing was set for today.
Race against time
Investigators SPVM worked hard from the notification from to recover the precious cargo. Soon, they would have found a first warehouse in the borough of Anjou where part of the cargo had been delivered.
With certain investigative methods and sources of information, they would then identified and tracking suspects who allegedly led them to the places raided Wednesday night.
Reportedly, the 16 pallets 10 pallets bullion and silver beads are parts of Sweden by boat before calling at the Port of Montreal. One part was to be delivered to a Canadian bank while the other was to be loaded onto a ship bound for a country in South America.
The Port of Montreal has the reputation of being infiltrated by certain criminal organizations, including the Irish clan Matticks, but there is no indication, for now at least, that organized crime is involved in this spectacular flight.
The investigation continues to try to find the rest of the cargo.
