It's no secret I'm mostly on firearm forums. I'm glad they know.

I checked Google (I have a gmail account and can log into every service they have with it just about.) But they know jack shit about me... https://www.startpage.com use that instead. I have for about 3 years now.
I also use firefox with no tracking add-ins which blocks tracking cookies.

Google knows all. That's the company's job, and they do it extraordinarily well. In fact, I would say they set the standard.

Hotmail forcing users to provide phone # "for your protection..." (http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?72740-Hotmail-forcing-users-to-provide-phone-quot-for-your-protection-quot&highlight=hotmail)
^ "forced" me to dump that hotmail acct which I'd had over a decade.
the OP is why these "free" email providers nag users for their mobile #s. Data mining.
I forget when it started but I know Y! Mail nags me for a mobile # every time I log in now, with the same bs "FOR YOUR (lost password...) PROTECTION" trojan horse/ruse as their "reason." Though hopefully they learned from hotmail's aggressive coercion approach & subsequent loss of users, coz Y! does provide a "skip FOR NOW" button, no "and don't nag me again!" option, mind you, meaning they'll continue nagging until the cows come home. :(
I had an android (read: joogle) phone for a couple months this last winter, and using the chrome browser provided, I recall how frustrated I was that when I'd leave a browser tab for a few minutes*, after I'd return to that tab, chrome would "conveniently" REFRESH that tab, several times wiping out a half composed email or messageboard post which I'd invested a lot of time in composing! :o
* the "few minutes" seemed to be 3-6 mins somewhere; I never tested to find the exact trigger time; but the tabs wouldn't auto-refresh if you just left very briefly & return.
I looked up at one of the android forums how/where to turn that auto-refresh shit off, as it was nowhere in the chrome options menu; and the bottom line was, you can't. The only plausible explanation I could think of for chrome/android/joog's designing in this "needless" (I know where the refresh button is and how to press it, TY!), forced, prepaid mobile-data robbing ridiculousness was: joogle wants to track/record not only every site you visit; but for those who juggle multiple tabs/pages as I do, joogle wants to track when you return to a tab, prolly how much time you spend there, etc. And their forcefully auto-refreshing that tab when you return to it must be their only way to track your behavior coz the page reload would trigger android/chrome to fire off a little FYI packet to the joog.

Just get a throw away number from Google (Google Voice). Use their own services against them.
