... wasted opportunity. The pope is now a politician. As a Catholic, I am very disappointed. The number one issue in this country is abortion, and he danced around it, deflected it, and ignored it. I am not dissing my religion, but, this pope has not shown much ability to communicate that which needs to communicated. He said nothing in his speech that makes me see him as pope. He came as a politician, and talked like one. I am not sure if he even mentioned the name Jesus Christ.

Possibly. I think there are exceptions even in the Jesuits, but it used to be the other way around.

Quick Note to the Pope
Just two charts I would ask the pope to look at.
1.) Human progress: The amount of people, life expectancy and global personal GDP. These “hockey sticks” show that, since the advent of fossil fuels, the human condition has improved immensely.
http://assets.patriotpost.us/images/2015-09-18-742b268e_large.png
2.) The factual record of CO2 and temperature in the geological history of the earth.
http://assets.patriotpost.us/images/2015-09-18-6a8c77ab_large.png
There is no apparent linkage, so why is CO2 suddenly the climate control knob when there were years with higher CO2 and lower temperatures?
I won’t go any further except to say I can’t believe his excellency, if exposed to this, would not at the very least question the positions he has adopted. It is my hope while he is here that he at least glances at other information such as this.

What the pope did NOT "preach"
THE GOSPEL
Hello?
Something you will NEVER hear from ANY pope
Why?
He is a politician FIRST and foremost with a pagan ancient Babylonian religion (dressed up to appear as some form of Christianity) as the medium for INCOME for their GOVERNMENT (not church)
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The pope said nothing about how to be saved
No repentance (since this government's religion substitute PENANCE (not in the Bible) for REPENTANCE)
and NO GOSPEL!!

I actually agree to a point. He did mention the Son of God (I have been told, I did not catch it), so that is the first step. He really wasted an opportunity, and acted like a politician in my opinion.

Agree. Also, how many die from death penalty in the US annually? 10? 15? How about abortion? 4000000? 5000000? 6000000?

This pope believes that national salvation can be attained through politics, and as such, appeals to national governments to legislate his proposed solutions. Jesus never appealed to the Roman government to legislate salvation, charity, or good deeds.

Politics has a place (the nations are upon His shoulders), and I do not think he believes politics can replace religion, but you would not know that from this speech.

Point being, if there were any area that God would have more influence over than man it would be the climate.
This is not so in the Pope's words.
He's a guard gatekeeper puppet for global investment in Eastern and Chinese products.

His words were not haphazard. They were carefully crafted and slowly read. Francis and Obama said exactly what they wanted for specific purposes. You have to forget about bias and determine the purpose by the words. Look at how they try to sway people in a direction. This will show you the truth about these impostors.

Strange?
There is nothing he has said about living and the way people treat each other, that did not come directly from the bible and teachings of Christ.
So I guess Christ was wrong in what he said !
But then again, he (Pope) did not have the agendas some groups or peoples have today and delight to quote him (Christ) as long as they only pay lip service but not live his (Christs) lessons and words, in their life's. But instead are taking delight in the saying and or twisting what most would believe is the direct literal meaning of Christs words and lessons that anyone can see if they can read and meant, and not interpretations that fit into what ever the ones that twist those lessons into what they want to believe or achieve in their agendas in life .
(Sadly some can not help it because they were raised that way and do not know any better.)
Go figure!
Dos centavos !
Sad, because of this millions have been killed and wars fought in the name of the Christian God, which makes me thing this is a blood thirsty God.
Which I digress is a wrong interpretation of the true creator lessons!
That is on reason I am spiritual but not religious or follower of any established mans religions.
Which one is right? , they all have a core of the same lessons!
My God is is bigger but the same as the one in the bible, which is only one interpretation of the same but shared in different in older forms and names world wide, and also the same story's in basic lessons are taught.
How to live (people) together and establish rules of life so we do not kill each other out of hand and on a whim. (tho some here I wonder, if they would love to live in those kind of times?)
Which everything on this mud ball called earth is his creation and everything on it are his/hers children.
Anyone ever notice those that have took the time studying the worlds religions that they all have a very common core? And many of the older story's from older religions that are retold in the bible?
With only small changes in names and circumstance, but the lessons are the same?
Carry on , no matter how much blood the Catholic and church have killed in the past at least now going by the message the pope is trying to say reflects the true meaning of Christs message and lessons .
Which as religions go, holds the record on people killed and blood spent and spilled world wide.
Is messages and directly without interpretations from the bibles Christ.
Out of this thread, just had to say my basic belief which is not debatable.

Said by one that has been taught and learned, that politics and religion can and will get you killed, depending where said and done !
You are just a very good example of b thumpers that are locked into your own mind along with the ones that hold your viewpoints.
Which is a another reason man will continue to keep on killing each other in the name of the creator.

As much as you and me disagree, no one on this forum likes the "Pope".
I don't know any serious Conservatives who do too. What he's doing is smart for Catholicism as a brand since there's so many 3rd Worlders and Commie-retards who want GibsMeDat. If the Pope approves of GibsMeDat he's suddenly a champion of the people, and people may start filling the pews again. At least that's their thinking.
This whole world is a total Idiocracy. These people are signalling to one another what good Communists they are and everyone is trying to outdo the next guy. It's getting worse and worse every year.

The Pope without a Country By Philippe Gastonne - September 25, 2015 $(document).ready(function(){ var defaultP = parseInt($('#article_main').css('font-size')); var count = 0; var elements = ['#article_main *', '.article_text *', '.article_text_newsletter *']; $('.plus').click(function(){ if ( count <= 1 ) { $(elements).each(function(key, val) { $(val).css('font-size', parseInt($(val).css('font-size'))+1); }); count++; }; //alert( "Currently at " + count ); }); }); 34 Pope Francis, a son of immigrants making history's first papal address to the U.S. Congress, implored America's leaders on Thursday to accept immigrants as their own children, putting aside political differences to embrace those who "travel north in search of a better life." In a speech that gently but firmly urged Americans to move beyond the partisan paralysis that year after year has prevented Congress from making progress on immigration reform, the pope wrapped traditional Catholic teachings into a celebration of American icons, including Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr., drawing lessons from their work as he urged Congress to spurn the modern tendency toward polarization. "Each son or daughter of a given country has a mission, a personal and social responsibility," the pope said in heavily accented English. "Your own responsibility as members of Congress is to enable this country, by your legislative activity, to grow as a nation." – Washington Post, Sept 24, 2015 We do not know what Pope Francis and President Obama discussed during their 45-minute private Oval Office meeting this week. It would be nice if he heard Obama's confession, but they would likely have needed more time. Their conversation, whatever it was, will remain off the record. The pontiff's visit to the belly of the beast, Capitol Hill, was very much on the record. Both parties had reason to both welcome and dread his message. On social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, he is in full alignment with Republicans. On climate change, immigration and social welfare, he is right in tune with Democrats. Members of both parties gave the pope polite applause when he said something they liked, and then went back to politics as usual. In one respect, Pope Francis has more in common with libertarians and anarchists. Like us, he does not fit neatly into a predefined political box. This does not stop people from shoving him into whichever box they think he should occupy. The pope views issues like immigration as moral, not political. He does not see justice in forcing people to remain within borders that long-dead rulers drew for their own selfish reasons. At the same time, he urges everyone to love and respect their neighbors. On this one point, at least, his ideal sounds much like the world many anarchists would like to see. You might even say Pope Francis lives in his own personal anarchy. As a diplomatic matter, he represents the Holy See – not the Vatican city-state, as most people think. The Holy See is not a geographic place. It is the chair of St. Peter, which just happens to be in Rome because Peter's current successor lives there. Other rulers have long recognized the Holy See as equivalent to a sovereign state, even in times when popes controlled no territory. Pope Francis is literally a nation of one. By his very existence, he proves that external government isn't always necessary. Would Obama or Congress grant the rest of us that same respect? Of course not, but we can always dream. Pope Francis would suggest we pray for it, too. - See more at: http://www.thedailybell.com/news-analysis/36552/The-Pope-without-a-Country/#sthash.lMdnrEss.dpuf

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pope Francis on Friday condemned the craving for material gains and power, warning an annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations that greed is destroying the Earth's resources and aggravating poverty.
On his first trip to New York, the Argentine pontiff also prayed at the Sept. 11 memorial in perhaps the most poignant moment of his six-day visit to the United States.
Addressing dozens of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly, the spiritual head of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics railed against the "grave offense" of economic and social exclusion.
"A selfish and boundless thirst for power and material prosperity leads both to the misuse of available natural resources and to the exclusion of the weak and disadvantaged," he said.
The first pope from Latin America, Francis has often criticized unbridled capitalism in the two years of his papacy.

On Friday, he had a high-powered audience at the United Nations, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. This year's General Assembly is believed to have attracted the highest number of leaders in United Nations history.
The 78-year-old pontiff urged government leaders to ensure their people enjoy the minimum material needs. "In practical terms, this absolute minimum has three names: lodging, labor, and land," Francis said to applause.
He said humanity's future is in danger.
"The ecological crisis and the large-scale destruction of biodiversity can threaten the very existence of the human species," said Francis, who this year published the first papal encyclical, a letter to the church, dedicated to the environment.
In keeping with his reputation as a green pope, Francis has used a small Fiat car rather than a limousine to get around Washington and Manhattan this week.

'PALPABLE GRIEF'
He led an inter-religious prayer service at the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks by Islamist militants that brought down the World Trade Center.
"Here grief is palpable," Francis said, after viewing the reflecting pools that mark the footprints of the Twin Towers.
"In opposing every attempt to create a rigid uniformity, we can and must build unity on the basis of our diversity of languages, cultures and religions," Francis said, flanked by representatives of other religions in traditional dress or vestments.
It was the most solemn moment of his first trip to the United States where he has drawn joyous crowds including a cheering congregation at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral where he held evening prayers on Thursday.

Two years into his papacy, Francis has won the admiration of
many in the United States, with liberals captivated by his focus
on meeting the needs of the poor, immigrants and the homeless.
On his U.S. trip, he has also emphasized conservative values and Catholic teachings on the family.
He warned in his U.N. speech against imposing Western liberal values on the rest of the world via "an ideological colonization by the imposition of anomalous models and lifestyles."

Francis called on government leaders to fight human trafficking, ban nuclear arms and promote the education of girls.
Among those in the audience were Cuban President Raul Castro and Malala Yousafzai, the 18-year-old Pakistani campaigner for girls' rights to schooling.
Echoing concerns he expressed at the White House and Congress this week about the environment, Francis called for "fundamental and effective agreements" at climate change talks in Paris in December.
The prospects of a meaningful global climate pact in the French capital have been boosted by the news that China - one of the world's biggest polluters - will start a national carbon emissions trading market in 2017.
In Congress on Thursday, he urged lawmakers to help heal many of America's divisions such as the heated political debate over immigration.
Later Friday, he will visit a school in Harlem, ride through Central Park and celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden before heading to a Catholic summit of families in Philadelphia for the weekend.

So the Pope is basically attacking his own institution? The Catholic Church and the Holy See to which is answers is one of the wealthiest most powerful entities in the World. They have priceless art treasures, one of a kind ancient hand illuminated manuscripts, gold and jewels willed to them by wealthy patrons, prime real estate the world over and stocks, bonds and other financial instruments valued in the tens of billions. They don't manufacture or produce anything to support themselves. They rely on the donations and sacrifices of the faithful, who are desperately hoping for that all important spot in heaven, to support the Church and make it wealthier and wealthier. And money IS power, people.
Obama just used the political and religious power of the Pope to try to convince Americans that we should allow our country to be invades by illegal aliens and that we should cow down to those who use normal climate change as a charade for to "controlling" us and our freedoms, and our access to energy. Since the Pope is considered God's "representative here on earth, if the Pope is seen approving of something, then the optics demand that we draw the conclusion that God approves of it too, right? That is what Obama wanted us to see.
If the Pope was really concerned about human created pollution causing global warming, he would be encouraging Catholics to use birth control and not to breed indiscriminately. If humans cause global warming then the long-term solution is fewer humans polluting the earth and using up our natural resources. And we should all feel insulted that an illegal immigrant activist group gleefully boasted of how they worked for a year with the Obama administration to set up that little travesty we witnessed with the little Hispanic girl and the Pope, and the well-publicized note begging not to let her parents be deported! This 'drama" was orchestrated to manipulate us, America.
The Pope, his visit, the little girl, and her illegal alien parents, the plea for relinquishing our freedoms to allegedly "save the planet" was all "theater". Obama thinks Americans are stupid so he planned this grand charade to simply advance his agenda. He also gave some of the special interest groups what they wanted. The gays and the abortion activists got to rub the Pope's nose in their beliefs, the illegal aliens were pandered to, and had the "right hand of God" proclaim that they have a right to invade the US. The Pope was more than happy to go along with it because the Church is losing membership, especially in the US in the wake of all the sex scandals. The Church needed to "reenergize" American Catholics to keep the collection plates full of all that lovely lolly that the Vatican hordes.
One hand washed the other here, America, and it wasn't done in humility. It was done to manipulate Americans.
