Essay by Andrew Napolitano, who you may or may not know, is a devout catholic. I imagine this was difficult for him to write.

Is the Pope a False Prophet?
By Andrew P. Napolitano
September 24, 2015

Congressman Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has invited me to the House of Representatives to watch Pope Francis address a joint session of Congress. This generous Methodist congressman has invited your traditionalist Roman Catholic columnist and cable TV guy to this grand event. I am going with joy because the pope is the Vicar of Christ on Earth, and his presence in Congress is historically unique. But within me is fear and trembling over what he might say.

The papacy is an office created personally by Our Lord. Its occupants are direct descendants of St. Peter. Its role and authorities have evolved over the centuries, but the core of its responsibilities has always been the preservation of traditional teachings about faith and morals and safeguarding the sacraments. While the papacy is a monarchy, the teaching authority in the Church is “the bishops under the pope.” This means that a pope intent on change ought to consult with his fellow bishops.

Before the monumental Church changes of the 1960s and 1970s that trivialized the Mass and blurred the distinctions between the clergy and the laity, Popes John XXIII and Paul VI consulted their fellow bishops at Vatican II. The consultations were fractious and belligerent, but both popes got what they wanted: a watering down of liturgical practices and an easing of rules safeguarding the sacraments, so as to make the Church more appealing and accessible to former and non-adherents.

The result was a disaster. Fewer Catholics went to Mass, confusion about former theological norms reigned, and a general tenor pervaded the faithful that the Church never really meant what it preached. Former Catholics continued to stay away, new Catholics barely showed up, and many traditional faithful became demoralized.

Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI attempted to roll this back. They succeeded in part by emphasizing traditional orthodoxy and personal piety to youth. Today, Catholic seminaries throughout the world are filled with young men who are more faithful to traditional practices and beliefs than many of their professors are.

Comes now Pope Francis to use moral relativism to take the Church in two dangerous directions. The first is an assault on the family, and the second is an assault on the free market — two favorite political targets of the left.

In the past month, without consulting his fellow bishops, the pope has weakened the sacrament of matrimony by making annulments easier to obtain. The Church cannot grant divorces because Our Lord used his own words to declare valid marriages indissoluble. But it does grant annulments.

An annulment is a judicial finding that a valid marriage never existed. This generally requires a trial, at which the party seeking the annulment must prove the existence of the marital defect from the beginning.

Fair annulment trials are costly and time consuming, often taking years from the initial filing to the final appeal. Until now. Last week, Pope Francis arbitrarily ordered the entire process to be completed in 45 days or fewer. For contested matters, a fair trial in 45 days is impossible. So, to meet his deadline, more annulments will be granted administratively, not on the merits.

It gets worse.

The Church has taught for 400 years that abortion is murder. Because the victim of an abortion is always innocent, helpless and uniquely under the control of the mother, abortion removes the participants from access to the sacraments. Until now. Last week, Pope Francis, without consulting his fellow bishops, ordered that any priest may return those who have killed a baby in a womb to the communion of the faithful. He said he did this because he was moved by the anguished cries of mothers contemplating the murder of their babies.

I doubt he will defend these decisions before Congress. He will, instead, assault the free market, which he blames for poverty, pollution and the mass migrations into Europe away from to worn-torn areas in the Middle East.

In his papal exhortation on capitalism, Pope Francis spectacularly failed to appreciate the benefits of capitalism to the health, wealth and safety of the poor. Instead, he has reworked the Peronism of his youth to advocate government-mandated redistribution of wealth and to condemn those who work hard, employ others and achieve wealth — even when they give some of that wealth to the Church.

When he is in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City later this week, he should take note of the recent and beautiful $200 million facelift. It was paid in full by rich Catholic capitalists who employed hardworking artisans and laborers to do the work.

The pope probably also will tell Congress that the world is an inherently unhealthy place because of human work. He will embrace the highly questionable green science of those who want the government to tell us how to live, outside our homes and inside — more Thomas Piketty than St. Thomas Aquinas.

The pope has seriously disappointed those who believe the Roman Catholic Church preserves and teaches the Truth. The Truth is Christ risen and unity with Him. It is not a debate about the minimum wage or air conditioning.

Pope Francis is popular on the world stage, and the crowds love him. But if he fails in his basic duties as the pope, if his concern is more for secular than sacred, if he aids the political agenda of the atheistic left, he is a false prophet leading his flock to a dangerous place, where there is more central planning and less personal liberty.

We are in an odd situation, where there are currently two popes alive now. In theory, Benedict XVI is "retired", while Francis reigns. As a Catholic, I have no idea what is going on. My My allegiance is to Christ, and His Church (as historically understood), not to the politics of the day within the church, nor to any given man.

Someone, maybe Twisted Titan, once pointed out that the Vatican has a huge platinum cross, weighs who knows how many pounds, made during the time of silver mining in the New World and platinum was not considered very valuable.

At the least, they could sell it off for melt plus collector's value - it is easily worth MILLIONS, and pay for ... any number of good works.

But this guy's "humble me" approach is fooling 99.99% of people - while the wealth and power remains with the Vatican, yes?

How about enough just to pay for his visit?!

"Some predict the total cost for the pope's Philadelphia visit will exceed $48 million."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pope-francis-us-visit-cost_56006cfbe4b0fde8b0cf693d

.....and that's just one of the places he has visited.
What about the others?
Is the Roman Catholic government going to reimburse these costs? Are you kidding!? Of course NOT, the taxpayer gets the bill,
Total cost will undoubtedly exceed 100 million, just so this SELF RIGHTEOUS hypocrite can be carted around to pimp himself and his government pretending to be a "simple" "humble" conservative "spender" and solidify the One World Political/Religious/Government in which the pope hopes to be a prime moving factor in creating!

WTF?

Read What Pope Francis Said at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral (http://abcnews.go.com/US/read-pope-francis-yorks-st-patricks-cathedral/story?id=34023376)

The cross shows us a different way of measuring success. Ours is to plant the seeds. God sees to the fruits of our labors. And if at times our efforts and works seem to fail and not produce fruit, we need to remember that we are followers of Jesus Christ and his life, humanly speaking, ended in failure, the failure of the cross.

Does make a convoluted logical sense!

The Christ did not seek death in his teaching, nor avoided it. But the lesson's he was trying to teach and the time he had teaching those lessons was not long enough for the majority.

But he did live long enough to plant seeds that over time took root and grew!

The failure could been seen is he only lived just long enough to plant those seeds!

If he could have lived longer more seeds could have been planted and his garden would have been larger and sooner grown with firm roots, instead of taking a few hundred years or so!

Best guess!

The pope spoke the words of the devil.

When Peter said he would stop Messiah from being killed, trying to dissuade Him from the mission, Yashuah said: get behind me Satan.

His primary mission was not to teach, not to heal, not to plant seeds. No, his mission was to be the Lamb of God and be murdered to cover the sins of those who believe on Him. To say that His life was a failure at the cross is TOTAL misdirection.

Anyone still holding to the Roman church is placing his soul in the hands of the devil.

I hold no man's religion or man made religion close in my heart!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_religion

But have looked at all of the worlds major religions and have seen the common core they all have, and guess what!

The lesson's they teach are much the same at their root's! And also the story's give or take are alike.

There is a creator that all man's religion's are based on and lessons taught.

That is what I hold tightly and try to walk and live the path of!

In that overall that we are all human and when it comes down to it no man is better than the next basically just some do better because of their environment that they are exposed to and learning environments!

Sorry if my beliefs go side ways here with most and causes constipation!

My faith is what it is, tho most do not share it, !

All I need is to look up at night on a clear night using my mark 1 mod 0 eyeballs to see the wonder's or look into one of my microscopes at the micro critters to know there is a creator!

And that humbles me!

Out of this one!

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

all doctrines are the result of false prophets, not saying jesus was one but the people who used his image to control the masses.... yet if they hadnt done so, i wonder how many christians the world would have today... a classic example of duality at work.

only the truth stands by itself and can be verified 24/7

Rome (AFP) - Pope Francis raised eyebrows in Italy on Tuesday by slapping down the left-leaning mayor of Rome as someone who "pretends to be Catholic".

The unforgiving assessment of Ignazio Marino -- a man the Italian media love to hate -- further heightened tensions between the pope and the mayor in the run-up to the start of the Holy Year of Mercy in December, with the Vatican fearful the Italian capital is ill-prepared for the millions of extra pilgrims.
"He pretends to be Catholic, it came on him all of a sudden. It doesn't happen like that," Francis said.
The pope's cutting comments on the politician -- who observers say rubbed the pontiff up the wrong way with his vocal support of gay marriage and euthanasia -- came as Francis returned from a barnstorming visit to the United States and Cuba.
Asked on the flight home if the pope had invited Marino, Francis said, "I didn't invite the mayor. Is that clear? I asked the organisers and they didn't invite him either."
Marino's presence on the last leg of the papal tour, coming hot on the heels of his holidays in the US and the Caribbean, did not go down well in Rome as the capital reels from a series of crises.

With the Italian press and social media humming with the pope's putdown, Marino said he had been not been invited by the pope but by the city of Philadelphia.
"If the most popular man in the world takes down one of the least popular in Italy, that says that all the rules of the game have been thrown up in the air, including possibly those of mercy," said the Turin daily, La Stampa.
"The Pope excommunicates Marino," headlined the right-wing Roman daily Il Tempo, which devoted inside pages to the controversy, while Il Giornale, owned by former premier Silvio Berlusconi, gloated at Marino's "colossal shame".
"The Pope freezes the mayor of Rome," said the centre-left La Repubblica, whose editorial said the swipe could almost be seen as a bid to "hand Rome back to the right who had poisoned the city", a reference to the Mafia corruption scandal which has engulfed its former right-wing mayor Gianni Alemanno.
Others saw the pope's disdain for the mayor as being linked to his support of gay marriage, and in particular the city "legalising" same-sex marriages conducted abroad, even though Italy still bans such unions.
One thing is sure -- the row will not help relations as Rome gears up to welcome 20 million pilgrims for the Year of Mercy, which begins on December 8, when the faithful will be granted special indulgences, the highest form of forgiveness.
