And they keep sending him emails to this effect, almost daily for over a year.

Midnight, I don't understand this thread. I don't use facebook. What does this mean to the facebook ignorant? Are you being profiled, is that it?

To view much of FB one needs a FB account so years ago I created a spoof account with virtually no info on it, bare bones in order to view FB pages. Something gives me the impression it's not so easy to create a spoof identity on FB these days although I haven't tried. The emails that Ben Dover (not actual FB spoof) has been getting are a means of encouraging Ben to be more active on FB - IOW, marketing outreach.

I'm not on FB either, but your post makes me want to attempt to create a profile just to see if it can be done.

This is called trolling for the Internet police. Unlike fishing once hooked you cannot just toss them back.

What FB wants you to do is give them access to your email address book, in order to "find" your friends. Of course once they have that list they use it to 1) try to sell more ads to be shown to you more efficiently 2) build a social graph, shared with who knows who and kept for forever.
