Gran Torino movie, Eastwood.

It's been years since I've seen this movie. I'm re watching it. I'm just curious, how in the heck did the movie media push this movie, ie allow it to the big screen? It's the most politically incorrect, but actually "correct" in reality, movie probably ever made.

Eastwood is in a bar. He tells a joke "A mexican, jew, and colored guy walk into a bar. The bartender says, get the fuck out of here." Clint actually says that, and folks in the bar laugh.

Probably Clint's best movie, and one of the best I've seen. Since it was in 2008, maybe today in 2015 it would be crushed...don't know, but was wondering.

There's a dindu scene. Just watched it. Clint saves the asian girl from a bunch of "spooks". He says that in the movie. Pulls out his 1911.

I really want to get a 1911 after watching that.

Then be prepared to shell out $2-3k+ FRNs 'cause that's what a quality Govt. Model (e.g. Wilson, Les Baer, etc.) goes for.

I owned a Wilson for many years and I loved that pistol, but the time came to cash out. Pretty sweet, however as sweet as they are they don't take the abuse and neglect that a Glock or S&W M&P, or even a XD do as a matter of course. Plus the standard Govt. Model is a single stack magazine with 8+1 at best.

I was thinking about a Kimber 1911. A buddy of mine had one, and I loved the way that gun shot. I also like the slim profile of the 1911, with the single stack mag.

No doubt Glocks takes abuse, but there's a reason why some skilled cops upgrade their Glocks to Kimbers.

To have a reliable Govt. Model one MUST have a well tuned gun, and that costs $$$. A Kimber may have a nice appearance, but Kimbers are NOT tuned/handfitted with all the right parts.

I used to hang out with a very well known pistolero who, at that time, was winning ALL the race gun matches (amongst several other RKIs, one of whom founded STI), so I'm pretty well versed in what it takes to have a RELIABLE Govt. Model. And based upon what I know, I no longer own a Govt. Model, as much as I love a well tuned Govt. Model*.

If you just HAVE to have an off the shelf 1911 then I suggest you get a STI rather than a Kimber. STI is an employee owned company.

*note I call the pistol a Government Model and not a 1911 'cause years ago the people I hung with never called 'em anything other than 'Government Model'
