All 17 public schools in Fairfield, Connecticut -- with about 10,000 enrolled students -- went into lockdown this morning after an "unverifiable threat" of violence, according to police.

The lockdown went into effect after a series of phone calls were made to the schools around the town, indicating a "threat of violence," Fairfax police said at a news conference today.

Emergency services personnel immediately took steps to secure the schools, police said, adding that all schools in the area, private and public, were now safe and secure and that all students and personnel were safe.

All 17 of the schools are going to be dismissed early today around noon because of the major disruption to the school day, police said. Out of an "abundance of caution" all after-school activities, including home and away sports games, have also been cancelled, police added.

All children will be required to go through a process of reunification with parents, which could take several hours, according to police.

BOAZ, Ala. — As the investigation into an online threat continues, Boaz and Arab Police Departments say nothing seems out of the ordinary at the Snead State Community College campuses in Marshall County Monday.

Snead State Community College and law enforcement officials are investigating a threat made through an anonymous message board that a shooting would happen there on Monday, October 19.

Because of the investigation, the campuses in Boaz and Arab closed Monday.

Officers from both Arab and Boaz Police Departments are patrolling the campuses and say nothing is suspicious.

Officials were notified of the threat last week.

Snead State released a statement on Thursday, saying the Birmingham Police Department contacted the school to make officials aware of an online threat that says “RIP to all the people that died in the Snead State Community College shooting in Alabama on 10/19/15.” Birmingham Police learned of this through an area “Fusion Center” which serves to notify authorities of online threats.

“It’s still under investigation,” Boaz Police Chief Scott Farish says, “We’re working with other agencies, also the Fusion Center there, looking to see if they can trace back to where this came from to see if we can locate that person for prosecution.”

Initially, the school had planned to have a heavy law enforcement presence on Oct. 19, and said students could contact faculty members if they did not feel safe coming to campus. However, later in the day Snead State announced all campuses will be closed that day.
