View Full Version : Samsung to make robots ‘cheaper than any human worker’

the beginning of the end accelerating....
----------------------------
High tech, specialized robots are about to replace droves of low-wage factory workers and send them packing. Samsung is partnering with South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to invest nearly $15 million in new robots that will take away the jobs that Chinese workers typically do.
The new robots will be in charge of handling cumbersome tasks involved with smartphone assembly. Jobs that once required flexible human fingers will now be replaced with sophisticated robots capable of performing tasks that require dexterity. If Samsung’s plan works, entirely new factories will be constructed in developing nations to undercut Chinese factories that employ millions of human workers.’

In a free world, those displaced humans would then be free to innovate and create whole new industries which at this point in time we can't even fathom. Instead, they will cry to their governments to help them cling to the status quo, and beg for free money to offset their lost jobs. Due to govt refusal to leave things be, along with this coming wave of automation will be a lost opportunity of vast specialization and precision innovation in fields we can't even imagine.

On the brighter side, manufacturing will come back to the United States since these robots will work cheaper than any foreign wage slaves. It may force localization to increase and harm globalization.

Yes, quite likely. It is always best for a business to be physically close to their customers. Since the robot, once purchased, needs only electricity and a bit of space, it makes sense that it would be located in the USA - the supply chain is then much shorter and transportation costs drop a great deal.

Trust me, it will not be cheaper in the long term
Every robot finger will require 17 supply chains as opposed to mama xingxang's and bowl of rice 2 tier supply chain.
The only reason Samsung is attempting is cause they're currently paper rich and aint gotta a brain cell to innovate any other fashion away from copywrite and patent laws.

When displaced folks lose their jobs, they don't innovate and create. They panic. Remember, most people are maybe a paycheck or two from not putting food on the table.

These are low wage manual workers, they can't innovate... However they can create a lot of problems if they don't work. The elites have no use for them after automation complete, solution=cannon fodder for WWIII. Problem=Lets build artificial islands the US can't ignore, besides they have their share of useless low level manual workers too, we made them so, they'll be trigger happy!

When the complexity of the marxist/socialist systems induce their own destruction, mankind will default to freedom. It will be messy, and very difficult, and to quote Ponce, many will die, but in the end the human spirit of freedom will never die.

Short term, they panic. This is why they will beg their governments for help, in the form of checks in perpetuity. If gov't welfare didn't exist, they would be forced to find something productive to do, they would be forced to innovate and create, or they'd die. Government checks keep them from the pressure to produce.

If its anything like here the low wage young workers still live in a completely paid off home and property of their parents, parents are ok on a retirement and collective pension fund. Any moneys they were receiving were only being put away to afford a down payment on some large ticket item in the future.
The moneys were only a thin layer of butter to begin with and they can comfortably exist for a decade or more in a paid for home on parents pension.

A factory slave would on average not be able to do that, unfortunately. Many would die. Let's instead make them a soldier slave, and many more will die. Robots will provide the material needs of the super wealthy and their horde of qualified slaves. The soldier slaves surviving WWIII, protects them. Engineers keep the robots working. Architects design their palaces. Doctors keep the wealthy healthy, and the beautiful will be their sex slaves. 90% of the population will be unnecessary. Delete them!

Actually you can too.
You can get ready for it and plan.
I've said in the past you should learn to use Blender (to make 3d objects/mesh,) and get yourself a 3D Printer.
There's a lot of lower level stuff you can do and master with this technology.

I don't think anyone believes there will be no jobs.
There will just be a LOT fewer jobs and most people will be on permanent welfare/Minimum Income.
The question I have is will civilization continue forward or regress/collapse to make this future unattainable?

In another time and place i would agree with this.
But the truth is more along the lines of the innovators that would have come from this group will be violently suppressed by the heavy hand of gubbermint and the ruling class....the only way you have a ruling class is if you have serfs to rule over thus gubbermint has a vested intrest in impovermishment.
Out of that newly "liberated" you may get one possibly two innovators that truly have a never say die attitude and it usally those people who we read about.
I used to scorn the masses as being intellectually lazy but the longer I live the more I tend to pity them.
Cause all of us where at a point when we were ignorant of the bigger picture and just like them we got preyed upon for our stupidity. Its no different with them.
I will submit that it is very frustrating to see that ignoraced passed from generation to generation but Yeshua said this would happen when he said "The poor will ALWAYS be among us"
The more things change...the more the stay the same.

let's see: who will be able to afford wholesome foods when on a minimum income? At some point, as the job situation deteriorates further, minimum income will go too as money will have clearly become meaningless. So the choice will be between empathy and mass extermination.

actually, I know a very mature man who has been stockpiling (in several root cellars) for a decade and said that he would help out his small town when it all crashes down. I admire that a lot. That is my mentality.
He has diesel trucks converted to run on veggie oil, and 10s' of 1000s of gallons of veggie oil also accumulated over 10 years or so. He is the most prepared guy I know. And he has welcome me to stay on his farm when the shit hits the fan, of course he has organic seeds for many years too and will need help on his 10 acre farm.
so yes, I will have bread to share since I will bake it. Or will be farming in the andes of peru and live in a peaceful village ;D

China is laying the groundwork for a robot revolution by planning to automate the work currently done by millions of low-paid workers.
The government's plan will be crucial to a broader effort to reform China's economy while also meeting the ambitious production goals laid out in its latest economic blueprint, which aims to double per capita income by 2020 from 2016 levels with at least 6.5% annual growth. The success of this effort could, in turn, affect the vitality of the global economy.
The scale and importance of China's robot ambitions were made clear when the vice president of the People's Republic of China, Li Yuanchao, appeared at the country's first major robotics conference, held recently in Beijing. Standing onstage between two humanoid entertainment robots with outsized heads, Li delivered a message from China's leader, Xi Jinping, congratulating the organizers of the effort. He also made it clear that robotics would be a major priority for the country's economic future.
Many of the robots on show at the conference's exhibition hall were service or entertainment robots such as automated vacuum cleaners, cheap drones, or quirky looking machines designed to serve as personal companions. But there were also many industrial robots that signaled the real impetus for China's robot push: its manufacturing sector.
China is already the world's largest producer of everything from clothes to electronics, but much of it depends on low-cost, low-skill labor. And even as economic growth has slowed, wages continue to rise across the country as the economy evolves. The Chinese government is also eager to see its workforce diversify and its manufacturing industries become more technologically advanced.
Robots might offer a clever solution to some of these challenges. If more robots can be deployed successfully in many manufacturing plants, this would increase efficiency while also allowing some workers to be replaced. At the same time, because more capable robots will require advanced sensing, manipulation, and intelligence, the drive could help promote the technical expertise of the remaining manufacturing workers, as well as those employed in designing, building, and servicing these manufacturing machines.
The scale of this robot revolution could be enormous. Two years ago China became the world's largest importer of robots, and the International Federation of Robotics, an industry group, estimates that
China will account for more than a third of all industrial robots installed worldwide by 2018.
China will account for more than a third of all industrial robots installed worldwide by 2018. Yet the number of robots per worker in China is far lower than in many industrially advanced countries, indicating a huge potential for growth.
A more comprehensive effort to upgrade China's manufacturing base is already underway, under a program announced in May known as Made in China 2025, which aims to make China an innovative and green "world manufacturing power" by that year. The effort involves adding connectivity and intelligence to manufacturing equipment and factories, to improve overall flexibility and efficiency. It was inspired by Germany's Industry 4.0 effort, launched in 2011, and by similar efforts to promote more advanced manufacturing in the U.S.
The robotic component of this overhaul will be about more than just installing more robots in manufacturing plants, however. Some of the tasks currently done by humans cannot easily be automated at low cost while others, such as fine manipulation or visual inspection, will require sophisticated hardware and software to mechanize.
Tianran Wang (http://www.hlhl.org.cn/english/showsub.asp?id=582), a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert on industrial automation, spoke about China's manufacturing industry at the Beijing event. He said that it lagged behind those of other nations and would need a major technological overhaul. He also emphasized that part of the challenge will be figuring out which tasks can be automated most effectively, and how machines and humans can share the workload. "Not all labor-intensive industry can be automated," Tianran said. "We need hybrid automation."
China may soon become not only an important market for more advanced robotic technology, but a producer of more advanced robot systems itself. Many international robot makers were present at the Beijing conference, including the German giant Kuka and the Swiss company ABB. But dozens of Chinese robot companies were also present, including some companies that have only been around for a few years.
Siasun, an industrial robot manufacturer based in Shanghai, is developing a range of robots designed to help factories automate more of their work. In an industrial park on the outskirts of the city, at a showroom where the company demonstrates new products to prospective customers, I saw a dexterous new six-axis robot arm in action as well as wheeled robots that move products from one part of a production line to the next. The company is also developing robotic solutions that are customized for specific industries, such as a robot for painting the sides of ships by climbing up and down a cable that hangs down the side of the hull.
Daokui Qu, the president of Siansun, said the priorities for robot makers would be to develop more flexible systems with advanced sensing, as well as finding better ways for robots to toil effectively and safely alongside human workers. He added that the company had already received a lot of orders for the mobile robot arm it was developing, and that it was developing a gesture-controlled robot that should be easier for workers to interact with.
Before leaving the stage to tour the Beijing conference's exhibition hall, Vice President Li suggested that robotics researchers and companies from outside the country would be welcome to take part in the country's robot revolution: "China would like to welcome robot experts and entrepreneurs from all over the world to communicate and coӧperate with us, in order to push forward the development of robot technology and industry."

in real flesh cops soon to be unemployed too. this is a startup wage, but how much when we have 1000s of them wandering the streets: 1 or 2 bucks per hour? The robot speculation boom and the doom of man

Crime-Fighting Robots Hitting The Streets In California

‘The Police State and Total Surveillance Society are joined at the hip. Automated police robots are currently only used as threat assessment and surveillance collection devices, but there will be a time when force/intervention features will be added. These robots are driven by AI, of course, and communicate everything the see, hear and think back to a central computer for analysis. This is a bad trend but one that will greatly further the aspirations of technocrats everywhere.’
While Knightscope doesn’t think its robots will replace mall cops or security guards in the near future, the company does see them as assistants to human security teams. The startup currently rents each five-foot, 300-pound K5 unit out for $6.25 per hour (or less than minimum wage). However, teenagers or others tempted to kick or push the robots over may be shocked to find the robots can talk back to them, capture their behavior on film and alert authorities behind the scenes as well.

^^ Wow, that's nuts, robots patrolling the streets, getting paid less than minimum wage? I can see the filthy legislators now drafting up new laws to criminalize paying robots less than minimum wage because how can a robot live comfortably on minimum wage?

The good news is that if Robots replace cops you won't hear the bullshit excuse of "I feared for my life" rendering sites like this one (http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/jun/01/the-counted-police-killings-us-database#) obsolete.

A signal jammer for all intents and purposes would render them worthless. They'll probably lop them into the same already over crowded 2.4Ghz spectrum and sit em on top of Citywide WiFi to keep in touch with central command.

What a plus, no murder involved! How many years can you get for defacing a penny or graffiti?

yeah lets make america GREAT again. You can rest assured that Darwinism is going to fix that. It is that or society goes money-free. Any sane people caring about the next generation will choose #2 option. Darwinians will either choose depopulation or/and the absolute control of minimum income for all

Half of US Jobs at Risk Due to Automation - WTO Director-General
‘Automation and other technological advancements far surpass international trade as the leading cause of job losses in the United States and abroad, World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo said on Friday.
“Studies suggest that almost 50 percent of existing jobs in the US are at high risk of automation,” Azevedo said in a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
Warning against the rise of anti-trade sentiment in the developed world, Azevedo said, “Over 80 percent of job losses in advanced economies are not due to trade, but to increased productivity through technology and innovation.”’

Since when have all you Hamiltonian Federalist types even cared or considered how Banks and Freedom do not mix.
You need to be entrapped for Banks to operate.

Rumor is that the phone itself is the problem, hence, the revised versions doing the same thing.

They decided to recall it completely, so obviously it couldn't have been just a battery issue.

It's noteworthy that Samsung didn't make a full recall of all phones until one of the replacement phones went into self-destruct mode on a Southwest flight (had not pushed back yet) AFTER being powered down.
