View Full Version : Just an update - I buried my mother last week and bought land in Croatia

I took my mother to Croatia back in May because she was starting to get forgetful, basically acting old, no big deal right. Figured there she'd have fun, be around family 24/7 and enjoy the rest of her life. Well literally 2 days before we left I decided to take her to her neurologist to see what's going on with her, etc, he basically said she had dementia. WTF. Well I was flying back every month and the speed at which her brain degraded was shocking. She passed away in her sleep on October 24th, I flew back for the funeral and just got back yesterday. The funeral was one of the biggest in her village in ages and I really think she would have liked it. She was buried with her brother, his wife, mother and father.
However since May I made the decision to pull the trigger and get this done, I've been talking about moving back for ages. Almost all the guns are sold, I do have my FN FAL, $2000 takes it, and about 10,000 rounds of ammo ranging from .45 hollow, 223, 308 and police shotgun shells. My house here is currently being completely remodeled while I'm living in my moms house, should be done in 3 weeks and hopefully sold quickly. I have two shipping containers lined up for both my diesel and trailer, 911, off road trailer and Ford Focus. My architect in Croatia knows everyone so getting permits etc should be fast and easy and I'm going to be building a house with the latest and greatest solar power system available.
I should be officially out of the future multicult shit hole gulag USSA in about 8 months assuming I haven't been put on the no fly list by the cunts in customs because I give those fuckers an ear full every time I come back.
Here's the property. It's 30,000 square feet, on a hill top overlooking both the city of Stubicke Toplice and ski resort of Slieme. Everything out the door is $47K, building is somewhere around $50 a square foot. The great part is that it's also got sewage, and local water from the city that's cheap.

Sorry about your mums, but not a bad way to go overall. She didn't hang around for years, 'present, but nobody's home.' Sounds like her demise went quick & painless.
And, damn, that's alot of vehicles for one guy? And you're gonna ship them all over there; not liquidate in US? Are import taxes a big deal there? They'd be prohibitive in many countries!
Nice looking property. Care to share the price? I guess it has that viable house there on it but... what do you figure the land would've cost you were it "unimproved" (raw)? Just trying to get a sense of land/property prices thereabouts. You said 30K square feet, hmmm. what's an acre again? lol :) I remember it's about 40% of the more internationally known hectare (100 x 100 meters); or flipped around, a hectare is about 2.5 acres.

Sorry to hear about losing your mom. Sooner or later we all end up being orphans. Glad she didn't suffer much...many don't get out of here that easy as she did going in her sleep.
Best of luck wrapping things up here and starting a new chapter in your life.
Property looks great!

And, damn, that's alot of vehicles for one guy? And you're gonna ship them all over there; not liquidate in US? Are import taxes a big deal there? They'd be prohibitive in many countries! With getting residency first I don't have to pay import tax since I'm moving and the vehicles are used.

In European standards its 2,500 square meters and the price for the property with the house was $45K U.S. and property taxes are 5% on the value of the house 15K which is getting demolished. That's why I said it was about 47K out the door.
Also here are some things I've learned because I'm working on getting my Croatian citizenship.
1 - First thing is find out what you need to open a bank account, without that you're fucked. I needed to get an OIP number, dunno what it means other than it's kinda like a SS# but it comes in different flavors, from just an ID number to full blown SS type number.
2 - If you have relatives in the country of destination and you're doing a move like me, put them on your account and give them power of attorney, shit just gets done. Trust with relatives a different issue, my family is tight.
3 - Trust NO ONE in business dealings and ask questions, it's amazing when you ask very important questions how people see they can't fuck with you and stop viewing you as a stupid American, that is VERY IMPORTANT.
4 - Get an attorney. I've got an immigration attorney, which not only helps with the process, but shows you have the means to get one and he or she is someone that knows the laws
5 - If you're going to buy land make sure there's NO leans etc, it's amazing at how much shit is out there.
6 - It's much cheaper to build than remodel, about 1/3 the price to build, but then you build what you want, and how you want it, it just make the moving process longer
7 - If you plan on building find an architect that can handle the process from cradle to grave.

I've often said, I hope to die the way my old uncle Joe did: in a deep, restful sleep. :)
NOT screaming horrific screams of terror like the passengers in his car when he drove off the side of that cliff highway! :(

I am so sorry about the passing of your mom. Sounds like it all worked out the best for her all considered. Good luck on the move and I hope it all works out well for you. I would worry about the European area for the next couple of decades due to the immigrant invasion. Whether they stay or not they will still cause problems. Take care and keep up with us with pix and your building progress! Beautiful place !

Sorry about your mom. I went through the dementia thing with Dad just before he died a couple years ago. Dementia seems to be much more prevalent than it was 40 years ago. Big Jewish Pharma must have a lot to do with it.

Sorry about your mother, General... I know you were close to her... I think it is good though you are now busy with moving and house and everything, it is good to keep your mind occupied at these times. I lost my father now more than 10 months ago, and I miss him of course, but the memory of him speaks to me at times, and I have a notion that he is still with us, but at a distance, watching over us.
Maybe I come and visit you, after you settle down. You are not that far from Istanbul!

Hoarder sorry to hear that brother. I've actually been doing a lot reading on it, and a lot of it points to the "free" flu shots etc, not to mention the high amounts of metals here in California. I can't wait to GTFO.

I've actually been doing a lot reading on it, and a lot of it points to the "free" flu shots etcAll four of my grandparents lived well into their eighties. Only one had dementia in his last days and he was on all sorts of prescriptions.
Go to any old folks home in America and nearly everyone has dementia. What a sad way to remember your parents....and feeling guilty for not wanting to be around them.

Great, are you far from Pristina? I'm thinking sometime in May-June would be great for
a long weekend perhaps... :)
I just saw that you expect to move in about 8 months in the OP, so probably better in September or so next year...

General, I'm sorry about your loss. I've always admired you for having the strength to take care of, and be with your mom, over the years. I think it's great that you are making the move now, making it happen.
Would love to come visit once you get settled as well. I've been to Europe a few times, but the farthest east I've been is Slovakia, and I've never seen the Mediterranean. Man, you are going to love it there. You can read about California falling further into disaster from a safe distance away now. :)

My condolences. The passing of a parent is sad but can be a time to make decisions we have been sitting on and so on.
Thanks for sharing the things you have learned through this. I've been dealing with something similar this past year. There is no will. They died in a foreign country. Money is owed to them and by them to others. I'm now left with the prospect of several years minimum to try and recover and also to settle debts. My main concern is the debts they owe. They are much less than what is owed to, but with nothing in the kitty, I need to chase those who owe.
They died begging for someone to pay back some money so they could get medical treatment. I also suspect foul play. but thats all a downer on the topic.
I like the view from that place. Looks ideal.
And to own an FAL. I would love one of those. I shot the heavy barreled many a long time ago now. It was damn heavy was all I can remember, and it kicked a weedy young man like a mule.
My Tip: GET A WILL. DO IT NOW. Replace it with a new one if you get married, divorced or widowed.

Best of luck G-o-D; I found out only in the last 2 years that I have some Croatian background also.
I always thought my dad was 100% Italian - but 500 years ago there was an earthquake and a bunch of people died in that part of Italy. So Italy brought over a bunch of people from Croatia, and over time they inter-married with the locals. My last name is actually bastardized Croatian! Even today there are the "Molisano Croats" in Italy, who speak a form of Croatian.

Sorry for the loss of your mom, though it sounds like she didn't suffer much.
And congrats to you on making the move to Croatia--that's a pretty piece of property. I haven't been to Europe in years and am not sure when I'll get to go back. I'd love to do what you're doing and get the heck out of here.
Thanks for posting the videos from over there--I hope you are able to post more once you get settled over there.
Good luck.
