A mum-of-one tragically after drinking up to EIGHT litres of Pepsi Max a day, an inquest heard.
Victoria Lane, 38, died from a mixture of “excessive” caffeine consumption and prescription drugs in April this year.
Her lifeless body was discovered by son Reese, 17, at their home in Clayton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs - and he rang paramedics who were unable to revive his mother despite several desperate attempts.
An inquest heard how Miss Lane would guzzle up to four two-litre bottles of Pepsi Max and one litre of Vodka every day, alongside medication for anxiety.
Appearing at North Staffordshire Coroner’s Court, Reese told the inquest how his mother had been asleep when he returned home the previous night.
‘She was in the same position as I saw her the night before.
I tried to wake her up but her jaw was completely locked. That’s when I started to worry. I called 999.
‘When mum was drinking heavily she could get through a one-litre bottle of vodka a day and four two-litre bottles of Pepsi Max’, he said.
Miss Lane’s mother, Rosalyne (corr) Lane, 60, also told of how her daughter had ‘changed’ after a car crash at the age of 16, and had drank huge amounts of the fizzy drink to combat the side effects of her medication.
‘One of the side-effects of the drugs was that she had a very dry mouth and Pepsi Max was what she liked to drink’, she said.
‘I did question her about it because of the high amount of caffeine, but she told me it was fine.’
Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Sarah Murphy said: ‘It is absolutely tragic that such a young lady who had overcome significant adversity and had managed to sort herself and who had so much life and so much to look forward to, died prematurely.’
