I dont see how this could become a trend though, that would amount to playing the musical chair

ALL Icelanders receive money after government takes over ownership of bank
9th November 2015

‘Every Icelander will receive about US$232,802 for the sale of one of the country’s three largest banks, Islandsbanki.

Creditors of the failed bank proposed the nationalisation of Islandsbanki, in which they hold a majority stake. The move will help Iceland lift capital controls imposed after the 2008 financial meltdown and will give Icelanders a fair share of the failed bank’s sale.

Finance Minister Bjarni Benediktsson announced in late October that the government will take “some decided portion, five per cent, and simply hand it over to the people of this country.” Icelanders took control of their government, so they now own the banks. The process of nationalising Islandsbanki is part of an agreement between the creditors of three institutions which crashed during the 2008 financial crisis and the government and is an essential step that has to be taken so that money can be allowed to flow out of Iceland.’

Bankers tend to use different methods to herd sheep than those used by shepherds. A quarter million bribe is no different than a $100 bribe .... just magnitude and intent.

That is a mis-print. Someone put the decimal in the wrong place. See Ares thread here:

"Calm down for a second, take a deep breath, and let’s do a quick calculation of this figure.
The Icelandic Krona, which underwent massive devaluations in 2008, as a way to take their economic pain up front, currently still sits at a reduced rate of .0078 Krona to the US Dollar.

So, that 30,000 Krona figure suggested, which would still be 1/20th of the banks’ proceeds, would constitute a one-time payment to each qualifying citizen of $234."

I have trouble seeing that the "misprint" wasn't intentional. Or maybe people on average just lives in la-la land, and are totally incapable of rational reasoning and inquest...

Yeah they have Icelandic cents that go 1 decimal place deeper than ours, Its true.

Someone forgot to round up and change a coma to a period, they do the same thing here.

Yes but you would have to also increase to one more decimal for the 'cents'...

I didn't know that Iceland has 3 decimals in currency... So I guess it could be an honest mistake then. 30.000,000 Islandi krona became 30,000,000 Iceland krona...

But still an extraordinary claim should be backed by extraordinary evidence and some basic fact checking...

Well like I said the use of the symbols are reversed a period is used as a comma and a comma is used as a period so...
30.000,000 becomes 30,000.000 or 30 thousand Islandic Kronar and zero cents.

30,000.00 ISK
=
229.200 USD

for those who are symbolically challenged that is 229 frn's and 20 cents.

That's much better than here 30.000,00 only equals 60.000 dollars

and you'll never get anything under a single dollar, possibly 5 or even 20 of them.
