I was at the range last night, having a blast. But really I was doing a match shoot which is part of the obligations for handgun licence here.
I've been contemplating how well I shoot on some targets compared to others. I usually start with a warm up blast of a few mags at a regular target at 7 meters. Our targets are printed on white A3 and are basically an oval target similar to an archery target.
Our match shoot targets are on a coloured paper and the targets are black animal silhouttes. We shoot at 7 meters and then at I think it's 15 meters. Need to check the distances.
During the warm up I do shoot fairly well but at the shorter distance. I can make fairly good groups. Sometimes I'll shoot a group to the center bull and other times I might shoot a group in another area of the target. Sometimes I'll shoot a line up the centre line of the target.
When it comes to the match targets I start having problems with placement.
It occured to me last night that part of the problem is sighting on the black targets. I'm running regular 3 dot lights and the lanes are fairly dark. So when I get to the longer range targets I am really unable to see where I am shooting. So I am really just throwing lead down the lane hoping to hit somewhere on the target.
Looking around my options are painting the sights I have or replacing them with something else. There are a fair few fibre optic sights out there.
Wondering what is worth looking at? Anyone have a recommendation.
Needs to suit a CZ phantom. Not sure CZ75's compatible would suit in every case.

I'm a big fan of XS Big Dot sights.
They aren't as accurate as other sights, but they acquire targets very fast, which is more important than perfectly accurate sights in my opinion.

I'm thinking of putting ghost ring set on my USP -- any opinions on GR sets?

Ghost Rings are horrible. They take forever to acquire the target. They ARE accurate, but I wouldn't get one. Not on a pistol.
Pistols are for quick shots on the fly. You won't have a lot of time to aim in a self defense scenario.

OK, fair enough. Good to see they have sights for the P7. That's what I carry when in the Detroit area.

Thanks. This rings a bell. I think you mentioned these before. Might have to plan for a set of these down the track. Was back at the range today. Got the last obligation shoot done with. Glad that I did not leave it any longer. Was very busy. Everyone has to be done by Dec 31 so the rush is on.
Range has a well stocked gun shop now. They have a short list of brands/types of sights but plenty of stock and cover a good range of guns.
I also saw these on the suppliers site where I bought my handgun.

Its a fibre optic front sight. The manufacturer web site is down. Above says out of stock but range shop has a few of them. Or some fluro paint on the ones I have.

At conceal carry distance, probably under ten yards, we won't even be looking at the sights. Sights are for aiming at a distance so should be small, accurate, and hopefully visible in low light.
:) I have both Tritium and Crimson Trace on the Kahr but doubt Tyrone will stand still and wait for me to line 'em up at the gas station

XS are Tritium Night Sights. The bigness make them easy to see and fast to line up. I have Night Sites like you mentioned, but prefer the Big Dot sights.
I use a laser too.

Nice to watch real pros shoot but me and most ain't pros. Watch this short video and notice how jerky we all are when aiming. Would be even more jerky with a Tyrone within ten yards. My guess remains that we would keep both eyes on Tyrone and not even see the sights. At least with the Crimson Trace we can keep both eyes on Tyrone and see the red dot on his chest.
:(?? i am no expert...lol

That's why I have both. I have Crimson Trace laser too. I have the sights you recommended on my hunting pistol.
Both are great, but under different circumstances.
I really love the Crimson Trace laser on the Ruger LCR, but hate the high recoil impact of the grip.

Hogue Rubber Tamer Grip
Yeah, I love the Hogue Tamer Grip. It absorbs a ton of recoil, but the Crimson Trace grip is hard plastic, and your hand absorbs all of the recoil. It's frustrating.

You are way ahead of me. I was just Googling the soft rubber grip sleeves.
I have one on my Glock G19 and it works fine. Looks way more macho than that pink rubber dish washing glove at the range...lol.

$10 Hogue Handall Slip-On Grip Sleeve for Ruger LCP Rubber
Maybe you can heat up and slip this over the Crimson Trace Grip?
All you need is the soft backstrap area...maybe cut and glue it on?
:(?? $10 Experiment

Or just coat the Crimson Trace backstrap with soft silicone

The Hogue has this thick blue jelly absorption thing on the backstrap. I wish it were available in more places. It makes a high difference in recoil.

Just found this:
Lcr .357 with crimson trace and Handall jr.
Hey guys, just thought I'd post a quick review. I like the stock Hogue grip, but got rid of it in favor of the Crimson Trace laser grip. 1) I really wanted the laser to aid in night time quick draw and 2) I don't like how "sticky" the stock grip is for draw time either.
However, the CT grip is not nearly as comfortable and it doesn't allow as strong of a grip. So, I added a Hogue Handall Jr grip sleeve, and I LOVE it. It's the best of both worlds. Just having the one molded finger grip and a little more padding is fantastic. It's still not quite as comfortable as the stock grip, but it isn't far off. It helps a little with recoil felt, but it helps a ton with a good strong grip. I did have to use an Exacto knife to cut it down a little bit, and I used a standard paper hole punch to make the hole for the CT activation button. But for anyone with the CT grip, this is almost a must. I think it was like $8 too, so it won't break the bank. Happy shooting!
