Trump is all about leverage, not ideals. This is a good thing.

Someone like Rand Paul is the opposite. For example, Rand would push certain idealistic pet projects and "go to war" with "liberals" for "liberty". In reality, these pet projects are not central problems in the first place, just distractions, and furthermore, even these pet projects would only get halfway done with the ensuing fight to get them passed.

Why does Rand have this perpetual idealistic war going with liberals about polarizing yet ultimately pointless issues? Because Rand needs an enemy to fight against to keep the campaign money coming in. He doesn't actually want to win this war. Those big checks to Israel, jobs moving out of the country, and geo politics? Just throw some dollars at it and keep the status quo. We need to focus on keeping prayer in our schools, because the religious freedom in our country and separation of church and state imply that the federal government cannot make rules on religion, either for OR AGAINST it.

Donald Trump however, at his core, is all about winning. In other words, not being taken advantage of, forming alliances, and using leverage to destroy his enemies. He doesn't really care if it occurs through method A, B, or C, as long as he comes out on top in the end.

Furthermore, he will instantly and viciously turn on someone he was previously allied with if they try to take advantage of him. When he says something like "Benjamin Netanyahu is a great guy and my friend", that is a very conditional statement. In his language that statement is not about his character, but rather more of a statement like "I don't fuck with him and he doesn't fuck with me". If Israel were to bomb one of our ships or something, that attitude would change within hours. And the money going to Israel? The very first question he would ask is what are we getting out of it. We're just giving them free money? I don't think his mind can comprehend something like that. In his mind, that money is leverage. That's the very first thing he would go after if there was a problem with Israel. It would never even enter into Rand's mind why sacred Israel gets money. Because in Rand's mind, he buys into the ideology that Israel is some sort of democratic alliance force to stabilize the middle east or whatever other BS is written in their zionist books, all of which Rand has read.

Politics aside, these men are different animals. They're monkeys with different learned skill sets. One learned skill set is crafting clever rhetoric, finding the right issue that the right group of people care about to polarize and gain popularity, all the while building political alliances and returning favors. The other learned skill set we see here winning, destroying enemies, cutting deals, not taking shit. Which monkey do you want in charge?
