VERSAILLES, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested and charged a man with murder after authorities say he stabbed a young boy to death during a home invasion in Versailles, near Lexington.
Police say on Monday around 4 a.m., 32-year-old Ronald Exantus, of Indianapolis, walked through an unlocked door at a home on Douglas Avenue in Versailles, found a kitchen knife and went upstairs and stabbed 6-year-old Logan Tipton.
Later on Monday, in hand cuffs and a bullet proof vest and guarded by four deputies, Exantus stood before Woodford District Court Judge Vanessa Dickson.
"Mr. Exantus went to an upstairs bedroom where a 6-year-old male victim was asleep in his bed. Mr. Exantus, with a large kitchen knife that he obtained in the house, stabbed the victim several times in the head area,” Judge Dickson read in court.
Police say four of Tipton’s siblings were home at the time of the crime, along with his father.

Authorities say two of Tipton's siblings were injured, leading detectives to think they may have witnessed their brother's murder and tried to intervene. The children were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police say Tipton's father held Exantus until officers arrived. They believe he detained Exantus in a hallway, not yet realizing his son had been severely stabbed.
"Dad did what a dad was supposed to do. You know, you hear commotion in the middle of the night and you wake up and never expect to wake up to someone in your home,” said Lt. Michael Fortney of Versailles Police.
Officials know of no connection between Exantus and the Tipton family.
“There's no reasoning why he picked that bedroom or that house. We have found no correlation between the suspect and the family that lives there,” said Fortney.
Exantus is also charged with first-degree burglary. Attorneys expect assault charges to also be filed.
Bridget Hofler, a public defender with the Capital Trials Branch, says Exantus is a registered nurse in Indianapolis, but argued in court he is not competent.
She said she tried to interview him before his arraignment and concluded “he’s just not here.”
She says according to her client’s facebook page, he has three children, but she has not confirmed that with Exantus.
That same page says Exantus works as an RN at Fresenius Medical Care.
When WDRB called for a statement from his alleged employer, we were told his name is listed under the employee database at the company’s Anderson, Indiana campus.
When our call was transferred there, an employee said no one named Ronald Exantus works there.
According to Indiana’s online licensing verification, Ronald Exantus of Indianapolis, is a registered nurse with an active license.
Police believe Exantus may have been driving from Indianapolis to Florida, where his parents live, but they don’t know why he would have stopped in Versailles.
Exantus told the judge he needed an attorney appointed for him, because he does not know anyone in Versailles.

The judge entered a plea of not guilty on Exantus' behalf and set his bond at $1 million.
Exantus is being held in the Woodford County Detention Center.
Community members held a vigil for Logan Tipton Monday night.
He was a first grader at Simmons Elementary School and played pee wee football for Woodford County.

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WDRB) - Hundreds came together at a football field in Versailles on Monday night to remember the little boy police say was murdered by a stranger in his home. (http://www.wdrb.com/story/30684507/five-year-old-ky-boy-fatally-stabbed-during-attack-in-his-bedroom)
We're told Logan Tipton, 6, loved to play football. So under the stadium lights, mourners gave him a fitting tribute.
"His smile was contagious. He was a kid that had just absolute love in his heart," said Peter Barnhardt, who knows Logan's family well through the Woodford Youth Football League and helped plan Monday's vigil.
"I sobbed," Barnhardt said. "I've cried a lot today."
Police say Ronald Exantus, 32,broke into the Tiptons' home family's Versailles home early Monday morning and stabbed the little boy to death.
According to an arrest report, "Exantus was detained by the father of the victim and held for police."
Logan's father was emotional as he spoke at the vigil.
"As a father, your job is to protect your children, and I could not protect him," Dean Tipton said.
But the Tiptons are calling Logan's sister a hero, saying she tried to fight the suspect off until her dad got there.
The heartbroken family also thanked supporters for standing by them and helping remember their little boy.
"All you think about is your kids, and it could have easily been your kids," said Danny Reynolds, who attended the vigil.
Reynolds grew up in Versailles and knows how close people who live here are.
"The community is small," he explained. "Everybody knows everybody. It's just like family."
Those in attendance said prayers and sang with the family to show their support.
Logan's mom says her son was afraid of the dark, and she asked those at the vigil to sing the song that helped him fall sleep, "Silent Night."
The little boy, whose life was taken far too soon, is already touching so many.
"They're gonna see tonight how their 6-year-old angel affect a community," Barnhardt said.

Why the hell would she put a bail bond on him? He just murdered a 6-year old for no apparent reason! I realize he most likely won't be able to come up with the bond. But that is beside the point. Further I don't understand why he needs a bullet proof west. A noose around his neck would be the appropriate way of dealing with this nigger!

What's black and tan and looks good on a dindu?

Everyone concerned about dindus needs one of theses, had that family had one of these the chances of that tragic outcome would have been radically reduced -

A bulletproof vest in a courtroom?

It's more for protecting the dindu in jail and while being transported to the courtroom.

I'm sure that's right, but it's still bizarre.

But you didn't know the nigger killed your kid, in retrospect if you knew there would not have been any need to call the police.

From his eyes he is jacked on pharmaceutil chemmies... no excuse but lets go sue the pharma folks on this one. they sue gun manufacturers, why nor big pharma?

They promote the black on white and never mention white on white, look at the heroin situation in allmost every big city in the country.
