View Full Version : Tattoos on a guy - your thoughts?

I have been considering getting a few tattoos... curious what you all think about it.
Current idea: right forearm - Celtic triskele - ancient symbol of Christianity
left forearm - Valknut rune, memory of those who have died (my parents , grandparents etc.)
Alghiz rune, possibly on chest - also known as the "life rune"
All black ink, medium lines (no attempt at fancy scrollwork like stuff)
What do you think?

No. Tattoos are degenerate.
They used to be a sign that you were rebellious, but now they are a sign of being a conformist.

Go ahead and get 'em. Coppicemen love it when they can describe a perp right down to the smallest tat on his/her tush.
Me? Wouldn't have 'em. And for that reason.

Celtric triskele huh? I believe that's the modern BDSM sign. Careful what you wish for. I can see where some tattoos can be art works but It's not for me.

To me it's a sign of mental weakness. If in business you need to cover them up too. If you are that unremarkable without you will only gain a few people admiring them, they will also see you as unremarkable if you didn't get them. lol. Have people draw on you with a permanent marker and see how you like it, if it's okay than do it.
just my opinion after a few years of psychology.

Depends on the culture and individual.
Depends on the culture, in the west tat's were more accepted in the maritime/military culture and bottom of the barrel sociality. At one time only the bottom of the social ladder had them, ak freak show tattooed lady's and such or sailors and military.
For many now they are considered cool, by the mostly young and dumb/stupid types that have not a thought of skin aging along with the owner of that skin. Plus any colors will fade in time some faster than others.
When young and dumb being part of a fad, which I do think the current rage is, in time will fade for many, proud now but when older and age sets in that pretty tat, will not look so pretty anymore, and may become an item of self consciousness and maybe shame..
But for some those tat's will serve as a icon of memory that will never be lost of the times and places they were gotten.
To the op you really need to do some deep thinking on what maybe cool now vs when you start turning ancient and grow older. What you proudly show now in time may become something that embarrasses or shames to you, depending on you in time.
Especially when tat's fall out of fashion sometime in the future, (which they probably will) !
Under pants and shirts so the tat can be covered is good, anything above the neck line is a prison rats territory, and social losers.
Most that get them do not think ahead, and just act in the now.
They can be something to be proud of showing your history or something of eventual shame, because it hurts like hell and is expensive to remove.
I have a few that I got when in the military, and I am proud of them, each one represents a time and place, and one was a group tat that we all got, (associates at the time, a mark of done that and was there) that all are covered and rarely seen by others.
Also as said by others in this thread, they can also serve as a distinct brand that labels you for Id purposes. Answer to that is to not do any crap to get on anyones radar.

Digging around reviews for laser tattoo removal in the L.A. area I found something interesting.
One practice does laser hair removal, obgyn, and along with tattoo removal. Reading some more comments they do abortions too. Looks like a one stop shop for those with tramp stamps.
Looking around the reviews, the clientele of the laser removal services , which seems to be mostly hair, is a vast majority of narcissistic women.
Cost of Tattoo removal (http://www.realself.com/question/how-much-does-tattoo-removal-cost) December 29th, 2013
One treatment session will cost between $75 and $300 depending on where you live and how big your tattoo is. Multiple treatments with laser are needed to remove a tattoo, and no one can tell you how many sessions you will need, although an average is 5-10. Generally fewer sessions are needed for poorly done tattoos since the ink isn't as deep in the skin. Also, black tattoos are more easily removed than colored tattoos (with blue/green being the most difficult to remove).
So let's say 500 to 5000 for the low end spectrum costs of removal.
What's the cost of getting the tattoos you want?

I have mixed feelings.
Tattoos throughout modern history has been associated with criminality, but the ones you described are quite bad-ass -- and you do not seem to want to be covered by them.
I was thinking of getting the Valknut rune myself, but haven't pulled the trigger for the same reasons of the responses given here. Another was the Triquetra circle [below].. If I ever get them, I would want them to be easily hidden.

Pre-modern people's had them quite a bit. Ötzi had 60+

Tat's are a "fashion trend" which you can't later change when the trend ends, and even becomes the butt of jokes & ridicule. Think DISCO after the '70s. And I agree they're ugly and trashy, and reflect poor mental strength. Once an edgy "bad boy/girl" thing; now they're just a reflection of the person's need for conformist me-too-ism.
And not limited to the USA/West. I'm in SE Asia and they're pretty ubiquitous here too. Tat parlors in neighborhoods & malls. And a dead giveaway that a young & otherwise hot lady, is a prostitute. Try to find one of the "bar girls" without ink... they exist but many of them are new to the trade, and they're saving & planning for their tramp stamps.
And they're a perfect vehicle for 'cancering' or even nano-chipping the tattoo-me-too-ist.

The BDSM one is there. The one I was thinking of is the one that is Celtic and references the Trinity.
However, I have pretty much decided not to get one, as it doesn't fit in with my "gray man theory" view - why mark yourself, even if the tats will be mostly hidden?

Yet another example of this "Look! At me!" mindset around here there's a trend for piercings, including the pierced noses thingy. One I've noticed is the septum piercing between the nostrils, and it isn't a simple bar or semi-circle, it's a nodule of lumps which appear to be boogers or snot dripping from one's nose. Definitely makes one do a double take, as in "Did they really do a piercing like that or is that actually snot or boogers?" ???

Depending on where the piercing is located a poor choice can lead to big problems with functions of various organs. Take a tongue piercing. Which of these organs would you prefer to shut down?

You should even be careful of where an earring is placed.

Energy flows along meridians. These are also said to be the fascia that separate muscles. The teeth are the circuit breakers for these meridians. Many organ problems have their origin in the jaw.
Dr Tennant charges around $300 an hour to help people with various problems. A girl came to him with gall bladder problems. He couldn't find any reason for her problems until she casually mentioned having had a tongue piercing removed several months before.

That shet never improved the looks of any woman. I explained to my ex-wife and ex-girlfriends that they were doing it for other people, not for me. My ex-wife, a true blonde of Lithuanian/Irish descent one evening before bed said "see how bad I look without makeup?" Her eyelids were red and puffy from years of chemical injury. Jews on teevee show us that all eyelashes and eyebrows are supposed to be black. They even try to get women to emulate the dark races by shaving off their eyebrows and painting them back on way up high on their foreheads.

Humm?
Have dated many a natural woman in the past, of all hair colors that did not shave anywhere!
In that regard I do prefer natural blonds! (Much finer hair) one red head that she could walk on water and I did not give a crap abt anything else that was hair wise finer! (Temper to match)
Hairy legs and all!
Now I prefer tho I will bitch if the lady borrows my Razor and would get them their own! Got tired of suddenly finding out my sharp razor was not so sharp any more!
Woman will do such things! ;D
Tho it has been a few years since I have run across that species of woman
Hairy armpits I could sorta handle (sort of) but the legs not so much!
But still have fond memories of those times!
And let's not forget the battle of the toilet seat and paper ,under or over!
Hoot!
But back to tats , highly personal thing to do, because you are marking yourself for life!
I have no qualms about my few that I have easy shirt cover up!
And they do have personal meaning to me, dam anyone else!
But never get one because it is a current fad!
Major life mistake for many!

No tattoos for me, never will be. Don't like to attract attention. I agree with it's a "look at me" culture. We all are unique, no need to mark ourselves up. Scars? I have a few though. I guess they are like tattoos in a way, though by accident, and a person can look at my hands and wonder how I even have my fingers at this point.
With women, I'm more relaxed on my opinion. They like clothes, makeup, take pride in how they look, and a tattoo if meaningful to her personality, I don't really care. If she has a lot of them, that don't mean anything, that to me is a bit of a red flag though.

To me a couple tats are cool a bunch means they are fucked up mentally. To date a girl that has a bunch of them is a do not enter for me, just cant drink enough to go there. If they are infatuated with tattoos I just don't know and understand their culture. They can stay on their own island.

‘A facial recognition company called Face Forensics has recently announced the rollout of a new tattoo detection system and database which could help them track citizens by their body art. The new technology was developed in response to an overwhelming demand from law enforcement agencies, who wanted another tool in their spy arsenal. In addition to identifying tattoos, the system cal also detect any other scars, or marks and associate them with photos from a database.’
