No arrests after 2,000 teens fight at Louisville mall

That night, up to 2,000 people — mostly unsupervised juveniles between middle school and high school age — disrupted the post-holiday shopping weekend by causing fights and exhibiting unruly behavior throughout the mall, said Officer Dennis McDonald, a spokesman with the St. Matthews Police Department.

The department received an initial call for service to the mall around 7 p.m., followed quickly by dozens of others as disorderly conduct by small groups of youths increased in the level of violence and gained participation, McDonald said.

"Once this starts happening, kind of a mob mentality takes over and it starts feeding on itself," McDonald said Sunday. "That's clearly what happened last night. We're still looking into whether or not some of this was pre-planned, whether there was a gang element involved."

Police said they were called to Mall St. Matthews at about 7 p.m. for a group of middle school and high school aged kids involved in disturbances, including fights.

The St. Matthews Police Department investigated several reports of shots fired inside and outside of the mall as well. None of those reports have been confirmed.

"I believe this was a byproduct of juveniles congregating, and there being some disturbances growing out of that -- fights if you will. Those kind of things and escalating out of control,” Dennis McDonald, a spokesperson for St. Matthews police, said.

During that time, Cortes and other shoppers were trying to protect themselves.

"I closed the gate right here, so if you see, there is nobody right here. We got a couple customers over here, but I tried to push everybody to the back in the kitchen and in the restrooms," Cortes said.

"It's just so sad, because there's so many families that shop with their little ones and a lot of people with all the stuff that's going on, they are afraid," Teresa Hibbs said.

The Mall of Louisiana was evacuated Saturday night after a flash mob turned into an ugly brawl.
Cellphone video captured the chaos as shoppers jammed escalators and ran for the nearest exits in Baton Rouge, the state capital. Employees at the mall were ordered to abandon their cash registers and evacuate immediately.
The fight broke out in the mall food court, where 200 teens had gathered for a flash mob.
"We think there was some sort of post on social media about a flash mob for tonight which drew such a large crowd of juveniles," Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, said.
Hicks said deputies are investigating the events that led to the fight.
The panic was especially acute, weeks after a gunman opened fire at an Oregon mall (http://abcnews.go.com/US/oregon-mall-shooting-gunman-tentatively-identified/story?id=17940362#.UOmUYmf-t8E), killing three people, including himself, and injuring one.
"Saw people running and screaming I turned around a girl told me someone has a gun I started running with them," shopper Missy Melancon wrote on Facebook.
No injuries or weapons were reported, though nerves were rattled.
"Never been that scared in my life," Juston D'Nea Millet wrote on Facebook. "People were running everywhere. It was like a movie, but you were in it."

A 16-year-old is being charged with aggravated assault because police say she slashed three people with a box cutter during a series of fights at a Pennsylvania mall.

Lancaster police say three separate fights broke out in different parts of the Park City Center, an upscale mall, on Saturday night. The fights began when two girls fought over a boy.

The fights ended with the slashings inside a Foot Locker store.

A 14-year-old girl and three other young adults are being charged with disorderly conduct and assault, too.

Police aren't releasing the teens' names because they're being charged in juvenile court.

The fighting allegedly began in the mall's food court and moved to other locations before the stabbings.

Police say the 154-store mall was filled with hundreds of shoppers at the time.

America's Newest Christmas Tradition: Black Mob Violence at Malls

American has a new Christmas tradition: Black mob violence at malls.

In the days before, during, and after Christmas, 15 malls reported large-scale episodes of rioting, shooting, looting, rampaging, fighting, throwing rocks at police, damaging cars and more.

Two black people died.

A survey of the mayhem from around the country.

In Louisville, 2000 black people “rioted” at the Mall St. Matthews. In addition, shoppers report several gunshots. “Riots unfolded at Mall St. Matthews today,” reported WHAS TV news of the day after Christmas mob action. “That violence, beginning around 7, forcing mall officials to close early. It actually spread to multiple locations,” (outside the mall.)

“Why was this whole mayhem involving black kids,” asked one viewer of WHAS. “My wife and I were there plus vids show it.”

The police spokesman said the violence was “random.”

In the Stonecrest Mall in a suburb of Atlanta, video from inside the mall shows a group of black people fighting and pulling each other’s hair. Soon after, the group of about 10-15 moved outside, where the video shows fighting, gunshots, and at least one person hitting the ground wounded, while the other participants shrieked with glee.

At the Orange Park Mall near Jacksonville, 200 black people had to be dispersed from a movie theater on Christmas Day. “100's of teens & young adults were at/outside movie theater at OP Mall when fights erupted,” said local reporter Tennikka Smith Hughes,

Eight black people were arrested, three for possession of concealed weapons.

“This happens every Christmas (in Jacksonville), first at River City, now Orange Park,” said one viewer, referring to a 2013 incident also on Christmas Day in Jacksonville, where 600 to 1000 black people stormed a movie theater and rampaged through the parking lot.”

At the Eastland Mall near Detroit, one black person was shot and killed after two groups of black people started fighting in the food court. The shooting took place as the violence moved towards the exit.

In Towson, Maryland, two hundred black people threw rocks at police trying to break up a large crowd at the local mall. Dozens of police responded, one was hit with a rock. On Twitter, TariqToure sent out the word of black victimization: “Tonight, dogs were sent out for black kids in “Baltimore Towson Mall.” He compared it to a Chicago shooting earlier that night.

Others said the riot was a long tradition in Towson and the result of black people in Baltimore not having enough free recreational opportunities, so they go to the mall and create havoc instead.

On Christmas night in Mobile, Alabama, four black people were shot at a movie theater.

At the Mall in Wellington Green in Wellington, Florida, police responded a large brawl at the shopping center the day before Christmas.

At the Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock, “a fight led to a large and rowdy crowd gathering in the food court,” said the ABC affiliate. 200 black people interfered as police tried to break up a fight. One person was arrested.

At the Southland Mall in Chicago, ten black people fought throughout the mall on video. No one died.

In a popular neighborhood shopping district in Chicago, the headline tells the story: “Ho Ho Hold Ups Galore: 4 robbed, 1 pistol-whipped during Christmas Eve armed robbery spree in Lakeview.”

Police are looking for four black suspects.

“The same crew is believed responsible for eight armed robberies on the North Side on Tuesday and Wednesday,” police told CWB Chicago.

Is that a mall? Or something else? We report. You decide.

At the North Riverside Park Mall, also in Chicago, “Fights Close Suburban Mall During After-Christmas Sale,” said the ABC affiliate. Readers of that scintillating best seller Don’t Make the Black Kids Angry, who are also members of the Chicago Police Department, said the rioters were black. And the mall has a history of black mob violence.

At least it did until 2013, when “North Riverside Park became the first shopping center in Illinois to implement what is known as a youth escort policy. It restricts anyone under 17 years old from entering the mall after six p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays unless they are accompanied by an adult over 21.”

After that, no more “teen fights.” At least until now.

At the Deptford Mall in South Jersey, police herded a crowd of 500 “teens” into the parking lot after they were creating mayhem in the mall. Police and mall officials were closemouthed about why they kicked so many shoppers out of their place of business. But NJ.com did report lots of violence in the parking lot, and mall employees said theft was a problem too.

Lots of people on Twitter and other social media figured it out: “Young niggas love coming to the deptford mall (not to shop) but to stand around and be hype.”

At the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island on the day after Christmas, a large fight in the food court caused large banging noises when chairs went flying. Shoppers panicked, thinking it was gunfire. It was not.

At the Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News, the Daily Press reports large groups of people fighting throughout the mall:

James Alford, a Cricket Wireless employee, said the mall was jam packed when the fights broke out. He said it felt like at least 20 smaller groups of people fighting, spanning from the food court, past his booth, which is about 100 feet away.

“There was running, jumping, skipping, everything,” he said.

A Kay Jewelers employee across from Alford's booth, whose supervisor did not allow him to give his name, said he saw scattered pairs of people throwing punches at each other. He said his store closed up for an hour during the incident.

Meg Gorski Albertson, a shopper, said she had “never experienced anything like this” left the mall when the fighting broke out, fearing someone would pull a gun.

“It was like riots,” a shopper told WAVY TV.

Video shows the combatants were black. The mall has a history of black mob violence throughout the year.

The day before Christmas in Charlotte, North Carolina, a gun battle between black people attracted the attention an off duty cop and security guard. He shot Dequan Westbrook, a local rapper known as Donkey Cartel, after Dequan pointed a gun at him.

Dequan’s mix tape is called Convicted Felon with a Gun, and features all the usual lyrics about killing people, selling drugs, and killing more people. Dequan’s parents told local T news he was a good boy and was going to college. Dequan had been arrested 10 times in the last three years, reported Channel 9 News. Last year, he was convicted of shooting a 12-year old, and his probation for that ended in October.

The violence and riots began the same day that a spokeswoman for Black Lives Matter appeared on CNN to say that black people are under constant threat from white racism and police harassment.

Safety for black people is “an illusion.”

“Especially.” she said, “at airports.”

A shoplift sweep April 7 at the Independence Center mall and surrounding area netted several arrests, the department said Thursday.

In a joint exercise with mall security and retail loss prevention, officers made six arrests for stealing, two for felony drugs and one each for forgery, aiding commission of a misdemeanor and providing false information about one's ID. They issued six traffic summonses and made 12 car stops, as the sweep covered part of 39th Street as well. Those arrested had a combined 19 outstanding warrants against them.

Police recovered stolen merchandise valued at $1,379.

FARMINGTON-WEST HARTFORD, CT - Three people were injured during a fight at the Westfarms Mall Thursday night, Farmington Lt. Colin Ryan said.

Mall security called police around 8 p.m. to report a large fight at the shopping center, which straddles the Farmington and West Hartford town lines. Officers from both towns responded, but many of the involved parties were gone prior to police arrival, Ryan said.

It appears the two groups of people fighting did not know each other, Ryan said

One person was transported to an area hospital; the others sustained minor injuries, Ryan said.

The investigation is ongoing to attempt to identify the involved people. No arrests have yet been made in the case, the lieutenant said.

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — On Thursday, the Greenwood Police Department released new pictures of women wanted for beating up a store clerk.

The fight happened at the Greenwood Park Mall last week.

The store clerk Chabrie Turner said it was a typical day at Icing, the store where she works in the mall, when a group of women started causing trouble.

“She observed a couple females come into the store and shoplift a purse,” Greenwood’s Assistant Chief of Police Matthew Fillenwarth said.

He described how the fight began.

“The victim followed these people out into the mall and confronted them and actually got the purse back,” he said.

According to the police report, the four women left, but returned later with even more women.

“(They) started tearing up the store and then started hitting the victim,” Fillenwarth said.

The store clerk said she had to get stitches for cuts on her neck and ankle. She had bruises on her face and scratches on her legs.

“The store did not have security cameras in the store, which is not that uncommon,” Fillenwarth said.

Police did get new pictures from the mall of the suspects.

“Anybody that recognizes these women, if they could call Crime Stoppers, we need to put a name now with these faces,” he said.

Fillenwarth said the photos will be key in making sure justice is served.

“Nobody knew who they were, they were gone before responding officers got the call and went in there, so we didn’t really have anywhere to go on this case,” he said.

Turner said on the phone that she wishes there was better security at the mall and that she’s scared to go back to work.

She hopes someone can identify the women so they can be prosecuted.

Simon Property, which owns the mall, released this statement Thursday:

The safety of our shoppers and employees is our top priority. We appreciate the support of the Greenwood Police Department. As this investigation is ongoing, please direct further questions to GPD.”

Fists were thrown, shelves toppled, clothes spilled - and then shots reportedly fired - during a wild mall melee late yesterday afternoon at South Shore Plaza in Braintree, police said.

Braintree Police Chief Russ Jenkins said no shell casings have been recovered and no arrests made, but a Randolph K-9 team did recover a handgun last night near Granite Street. It is believed one of the suspects tossed the handgun before he was picked up by state troopers in Milton and taken to the hospital.

Jenkins said two men in their late teens to early 20s got into a fist fight in a store at South Shore Plaza shortly before 6 p.m. before a third suspect jumped in "and caused a major disturbance in the store, knocking over clothes and shelves."



The chief said one man struck another with a computer keyboard "and other items he was able to grab" before the trio fled outside across Granite Street to South Shore Place where they began fighting again.

"An individual who police believe to be the victim of the assault was later located in one of the South Shore Plaza parking lots and transported to South Shore Hospital with injuries consistent with a fist fight. He did not appear to have any gunshot-related injuries," Jenkins said.

The individual investigators believe was both the aggressor and possessed the gun was located in Milton and taken to a Boston hospital.
