Cover-up claim over NYE mass sexual assaults

Men of ‘Arab background’ were likely responsible for sexual assaults on dozens of women in central Cologne over the New Year, police said on Monday - as a social media storm accused police and media of a cover-up.

Around 60 complaints have been made to the police in Cologne after a group of around 1,000 men attacked revellers in the city centre in a brutal and “completely unheard of” way, Wolfgang Albers, Chief of Police in the Rhineland city said at a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Around a third of the complaints were of sexual assault, regional paper Express reported.

“There was a very large number of sexual assaults there - and in a massive way. Women were grabbed and attacked,” said Albers, adding that in one case the alleged crime fitted the legal definition of rape.

“The crimes were committed by a group of people who from appearance were largely from the north African or Arab world,” the police chief added.

A group of around 500 men between the ages of 15 and 35 assembled at the central train station and in the area of the cathedral before throwing firecrackers into the masses of people celebrating the arrival of the new year.

This appears to have been a means of causing distraction, as during the disturbance groups of young men entered the crowd where they sexually assaulted women and pick-pocketed revellers.

Police then carried out a large-scale operation to clear the area of the miscreants, involving 143 local police officers and a further 70 federal officers. But due to the darkness and the sheer scale of people, Albers conceded that this operation was less than effective.

On Sunday police arrested five men at the central station who were accused of threatening and robbing female travellers. It is not yet clear whether these men are connected to the earlier crimes.

Cologne mayor Henriette Reker called for a crisis meeting to be held on Tuesday in the wake of the attacks, reports the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Accusations of cover-up

As the extent of the crimes emerged on Monday, the story became the central theme of Twitter with #Köln and #aufschrei (outcry) both ranking in the top five hashtags.
Many people accused the national media of engaging in a cover-up due to the ethnic background of the criminals, with many pointing to the fact that it took days before the details of the story reached national attention.

One commentator wrote sarcastically that “it is fascinating that the event in Cologne on New Year made it through the media censorship.”

Another person tweeted that “the public broadcasters aren’t reporting the events of Cologne… Says it all - educational mission and all that!”

Other Twitter users worried that the attacks would lead to a backlash against refugees, writing “it makes me sad that the refugees who really need protection will bear the brunt of the hatred because of Cologne. We need to be able to tell the difference.”

MP Steffan Bilger from Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, meanwhile, claimed the events in Cologne were proof Germany needed to reduce its intake of refugees.
“It can’t go on like this,” he tweeted. “Urgently needed: reduction of influx, secure borders, intensifying of deportations and meaningful justice.”

Questioning why no details were given on the appearance of the suspects when police called for witnesses, despite plentiful CCTV footage, Schunke suggested that police chose to leave important details out so that the public would not make a connection between the crime and refugees.

In its details, the case is reminiscent of the mass sexual assaults which took place in north Africa during the huge Arab Spring protests of 2011-2013, Schunke points out, writing of her concern that so many people are moving to Germany from “patriarchal, Muslim societies.”

Hate is the Jewish religion. Yes, it is powerful and effective, but not the way forward. White people were philosophers and scientists, for example Plato. I agree that properly segregated nations are the way to go, but if so, it would be based on reason and justice. Non-white nations could be great nations as well - Persia, China, Egypt, etc, all have great legacies. But taking people out of their natural environment, moving them around, causing revolutions in other countries, degrading morals - those are all evil things that destroy the world.

i would imagine that the great periods of Egypt and Persia were due to the Caucasian make-up of those societies. They fell into stagnation and decay when they became mixed with other darker peoples. I don't consider darkness to be an indicator of individual quality, but most of the darker races are not as intelligent nor creative as whites. This is why they live in mud huts in their native lands whereas whites live in decently crafted homes, typically. As far a China, I think the Japanese and Chinese are possessed of fair intellect.

Arabic writing and mathematics were no doubt developed by caucasoids. Who has been writing history? Depends on who's version you follow.

Cologne police were not ready to deal with the mass sexual assaults committed during New Year’s celebrations, the city’s police chief told RT, adding that they have never experienced such incidents before.
"Eventually we had a situation where a large group of men were going after women. We did intervene and help. But I'll admit that we were totally bewildered by it all. We have never encountered incidents like this before and we weren't prepared for it," Cologne Chief of Police, Wolfgang Albers, told RT.
Security has been boosted in the German city which was rocked by mass sexual violence on New Year's Eve.

According to witnesses, “heavily intoxicated” men of “Arab or North African” origin flooded the city’s famous square between its central train station and Gothic cathedral.
Aged between 15 and 35, individuals in the crowd began throwing firecrackers and setting off fireworks as the New Year was brought in.

With the festivities in full swing, some men reportedly sexually assaulted women and pickpocketed revelers. Among the criminal complaints officially filed, there is at least one allegation of rape.
The city residents are now afraid that such a situation may be repeated.
“It scared me. I am coming through this place every day and I am very scared by what happened here. I hope this will never happen again. It is horrible especially for women,” one woman told RT.
“I am afraid. You cannot separate this from the debate about refugee situation. In my opinion we have to help the refugees but we also have to realize and face the danger that comes as a side effect with this policy and we have to stand up to it!” another Cologne resident, a middle-aged man, said.

In the meantime, at least four suspects have been identified in connection with the mass sex assaults committed in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, Ralf Jager, the state interior minister for North Rhine-Westphalia, said. Police have not yet made any arrests.

The Bild said the attack “was just like the attack at the Cologne central station” and titled their article “Sex-pack go women-hunting in Hamburg” (Sex-Meute auf Frauen-Jagd in Hamburg).

The Bild said that the “North Africans banded together in groups, harassed young women verbally calling them ‘bitch,’ and shouting ‘Fikki Fikki.’

Then the victims were cornered, robbed, and sexually assaulted, the Bild continued. “The women were sexually assaulted on the breasts and in the groin area.”

According to the article, mobile phones and wallets were stolen. Police confirmed that all the victims were girls aged between 18 and 24 years old. Others avoided the mass attacks by “fleeing in panic to the bouncers outside party clubs and pubs.”

A 17-year-old named Denise told the Bild that “the girls were chased like cattle. I am stunned that such a thing is even possible in Hamburg. I am now afraid to even go into the neighborhood.” . .

The first accounts are now trickling out of Germany. Witnesses have told newspapers that men were entering bars and clubs, grabbing women’s backsides.
One woman only identified at Katia L, 28, told the Cologne tabloid Express that she and three friends were stopped by a group of ‘foreign looking men’ outside the station.
“Suddenly I felt a hand on my bottom, then on my breasts, then I was groped everywhere. 'It was horrible. Although we screamed and flailed about, the guys didn't stop. I was beside myself and think that I was touched about 100 times.”

Evelyn, 24 and a student from Rheinland-Pfalz, was also at Cologne train station.
As reported in newspaper Bild, she said: “I had a knee-length skirt on, and suddenly I felt a hand on my backside under my dress. I turned round immediately and saw a grinning face.”
She fled into the cathedral where she was surrounded again. “The only English they knew was "Hey Baby". I was grabbed and held by the arm and it was a nightmare. We were trapped in a mass of people.”
Eighteen-year-old Michelle told German television channel N-TV (http://www.n-tv.de/) that she was surrounded by a group of 30 men, “who were full of anger, and we had to make sure that none of us were pulled away by them. They were groping us and we were trying to get away as quickly as possible.”
Lea Westkamp, 19, added: 'I was surrounded and helpless. I could do nothing. These men were all over me.'

The sexual assaults were barely reported by the German press until five days after they took place, and a former interior minister has accused the media of observing a “news blackout” and “code of silence” because of the ethnicity of those involved.

Merkel promises firm action after 'intolerable' Cologne assaults

German Chancellor Angela Merkel promised to respond decisively to assaults on women in Cologne on New Year's Eve which have stoked a fierce debate about her refugee policies after police said the attackers appeared to be of foreign origin.

Some 121 women are reported to have been robbed, threatened or sexually molested there by gangs of mostly drunk men between 18 and 35 years old while out celebrating. Police say they have identified 16 suspects.

Cologne's police chief, under pressure for the force's handling of the event, has said the perpetrators appeared to be of "Arab or North African" origin.

German magazine Focus and newspaper Die Welt said police had found registration papers on some of the suspects, suggesting they had only recently arrived in the country. But authorities have not confirmed that.

Merkel, whose support slipped last year when she resisted pressure to impose caps on refugees, insisting Germany could cope with the 1.1 million migrants who arrived in 2015, said the events were "completely unacceptable" and "intolerable".

"There are some very serious questions which arise from what has happened which have relevance beyond Cologne," she said, including establishing whether there are common patterns of behavior by some groups of people who do not respect women.

She said she would consider changing the law, boosting police numbers and making sure the deportation system was effective. She added that "cultural coexistence" must be continually discussed.

"We have a duty to give the right answers," she said.

The Express newspaper quoted an unnamed police officer who said his squad had detained several people who had “only been in Germany for a few weeks”.
“Of these people, 14 were from Syria and one was from Afghanistan. That’s the truth. Although it hurts,” he said.
The newspaper quoted a second police officer as confirming the 15 who were held had “residence permits for the asylum procedure”. Officers took down their names, and they are in the police records, he said.
If confirmed, the report will add new weight to claims of a police cover-up. The Cologne authorities have claimed they have no evidence whether asylum-seekers were involved.

According to latest data, 121 criminal incidents, many involving sexual assaults, were reported following New Year's Eve celebrations in the city. The crimes were reportedly committed by gangs of intoxicated men described as being “of Arab or North African” origin.Following the attacks, Merkel's CDU party called for tougher penalties against refugees who break the law, Reuters reported, citing a CDU draft paper.
The document stated that refugees who have been arrested and sentenced to imprisonment or probation should be deprived of an ability to receive asylum. The paper also suggested that criminal asylum seekers should be expelled to their home countries and serve their sentence there.
Such a position was backed up by German Vice Chancellor and the leader of SPD party Sigmar Gabriel.
"I am saying: there should be zero tolerance for criminal activities and sexual assaults," the politician said in an interview with the German newspaper Das Bild.

Women in the Finnish capital of Helsinki have become the latest victims of sexual harassment by the migrant community. Police have revealed a number of attacks that took place over the New Year period.

"Police have received information about three cases of sexual assault, of which two have been filed as complaints," Helsinki police said of the attacks, which occurred at the city's main train station on New Year's Eve.
Women were targeted in an area where around 1,000 mainly Iraqi asylum seekers were celebrating the coming of 2016.

“The suspects were asylum seekers. The three were caught and taken into custody on the spot,” Helsinki Deputy Police Chief Ilkka Koskimaki told AFP.
For the relatively quiet city of Helsinki, three cases of sexual violence against women on the night in question seem to have set a record.
“There hasn't been this kind of harassment on previous New Year's Eves or other occasions for that matter. This is a completely new phenomenon in Helsinki,” Koskimaki said.
Helsinki police prepared for possible violence in advance by hiring private security to provide "an exceptional level" of protection for some 20,000 people gathered for the celebrations.
“Ahead of New Year’s Eve, the police caught wind of information that asylum seekers in the capital region possibly had similar plans to what the men gathered in Cologne's railway station have been reported to have had,” police said in a statement.

While no link has been established between the events in Cologne and Helsinki, authorities in the German city said that more cases of sexual assault have been reported to the police.
The city received 120 complaints by Thursday, after mostly drunken refugees harassed women near the train station during celebrations. On Wednesday, Cologne police chief, Wolfgang Albers, admitted to RT that Cologne law enforcers were unprepared for the mass sexual assaults committed during the New Year’s celebrations.
"Eventually we had a situation where a large group of men were going after women. We did intervene and help. But I'll admit we were totally bewildered by it all. We have never encountered incidents like this before and we weren't prepared for it," Albers told RT.
On Thursday, Der Spiegel reported (http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/cologne-attacks-on-new-years-produced-chaos-say-police-a-1070894.html) that police lost control of the situation in Cologne on New Year's Eve. Citing an internal report by Germany's national police, the Bundespolizei, obtained by the publication, the police believe those who committed the assaults will never be found.
Identifying the perpetrators "was unfortunately no longer possible," because "security forces were unable to get all of the incidents, assaults, crimes, etc. under control,” the report reads.

Germany's migrant-incited chaos shows no sign of abating and the country currently remains on the edge of emergency, Volker Wagener of the German news network Deutsche Welle said.He referred to panic-stricken politicians in Berlin, where all the parties, including the opposition left-wing ones, are unanimously demanding a heavy-handed state crackdown on refugees, and are calling for deportations and the tightening of existing laws.
"However, these demands are unlikely to be met in a country where the judges pay little attention to politicians' orders because of the principle of separation of powers," Wagener said.
According to him, the fundamental problem is that the German government gave up control on the country's borders and thousands of people arrive in Germany each day without registration. No one even knows where they came from, Wagener added.

He went on to say that the federal government is clearly turning a blind eye to the possibility of terrorists being among more than one million refugees who have already entered Germany.

Notably, the government relies on the professed supporters of a multicultural society, who constitute the majority in the political establishment and the media, Wagener said.
"Today, even the most ardent devotee of multiculturalism should realize the fact that the massive influx of young men from North African Arab countries may blow up the internal order in Germany," Wagener said.
The political and emotional climate is rapidly deteriorating in Germany due to the migration crisis, he said, referring to the attacks in Cologne which took place on New Year's Eve, when hundreds of women at Cologne's central train station were subjected to a series of sexual assaults, molestation, lewd comments and behavior, as well as robbery.
"It is high time we should do something about this, given that Economic Cooperation and Development Minister Gerd Muller predicts that up to ten million migrants may arrive in Germany in the coming years," Wagener said.

that we do not see several white men at least speaking as witnesses is indeed intriguing, while the spiking rape rates are documented and which I believe genuine, they could easily be fueled by psyop-staged events with the help of crisis actors. At this stage, i'd call for caution. Not discarding anything, just want to see a more conclusive evidence. It is convenient however because alleged rape victims rarely want to appear on TV or have their pix published in newspapers.

The traditionally inert, neutral and quite homogeneous nation of Switzerland is not used to having cultural integration issues, which is why it has been watching recent events across the German border (and elsewhere in Europe) with sheer terror. It lays out various instances of accepted behavior such as kissing and praying, while making it clear that punching women and children in the head is frowned upon in polite society.

The flyer was modeled after a comparable one, created in Austria last year as part of the initial wave of mass refugee influx.

However, concerned that migrants would be less than inclined to read the text, the practical Swiss decided to populate it with "pictograms" or cartoons.
According to the Swiss, creating the flyer was a spontaneous decision that took place "after the attacks in Germany on New Year's Eve" when Swiss authorities received a number of reactions, however they add that it was a preventive measure: "we currently have no problems."
Blick adds that currently in the canton of Lucerne there are about 1800 asylum seekers in three centers and nine temporary shelters.
As for the flyer, the local government has determined to "focus on role models, and equality between men and women." They "want to show that there is zero tolerance for sexual harassment. The motto is "If you come to us, abide by our rules."
A comparable flyer in Germany was found to have fanned racism with explanations such as "young girls feel harassed by demands such as asking for a cell phone number or Facebook contact, or marriage proposals" or "when nature calls we do exclusively on toilets, not in parks and gardens, and not on hedges and behind bushes."
Whether the cartoons will be successful in taming the refugees' more base instincts, tune in after the Lucerne carnival has started on February 4 to find out.

An irate local politician in Germany's southern state of Bavaria has dispatched a bus filled with dozens of refugees on a 7-hour journey to Chancellor Angela Merkel's office in Berlin as a protest against her open-door refugee policy.

A spokesman for Peter Dreier from the southeastern town of Landshut confirmed to Reuters that 31 refugees were making the 550 kilometre trip to the capital and were likely arrrive in the afternoon.

A video on the online site of German newspaper Die Welt showed police officers shepherding dozens of men and women with bags onto a bus in a sunny country road lined with trees and chalets.

Dreier appeared to be acting on a threat he made to Merkel last year. Critical of her mantra that Germany can cope with the influx of migrants, he reportedly issued a warning to the chancellor in a phone call in October.

"If Germany is taking in 1 million refugees, mathematically that means 1,800 will come to my district. I will take them and if there are any more, I will send them to your office," Die Welt quoted Dreier as saying.

BERLIN (Reuters) - A prominent ally of Germany's Angela Merkel has threatened to take her government to court over its open door refugee policy as political pressure grows for the chancellor to reduce the number of new arrivals.
Bavarian state premier Horst Seehofer said he would send the federal government a written request within the next two weeks to restore "orderly conditions" at the nation's borders, through which one million migrants and refugees passed last year alone.
"If it doesn't follow, the state government will have no other choice but to file a suit at the Federal Constitutional Court," Seehofer told Der Spiegel magazine on Saturday.
Seehofer has issued a series of ultimatums to Merkel in recent months to press her into taking immediate action to limit the influx of migrants, only to back down at the last minute.
His comments reflect growing doubt among Germans about Merkel's "we can do this" mantra in the face of Europe's biggest migrant crisis since World War Two, especially since sexual assaults in Cologne on New Year's Eve were blamed on migrants.
Merkel's popularity has dropped since the assaults, a poll showed on Friday.

Bavaria, a conservative state that borders Austria to the south, is the home of Seehofer's Christian Social Union (CSU), sister party to Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and is the main entry point for migrants and refugees.
The state's finance minister, Markus Soeder, told Der Spiegel that Merkel's refugee policy was not democratically legitimized and said parliament should vote on the matter.
Senior figures from the Social Democrats (SPD), Merkel's second coalition partner, have also broken ranks in recent days.

SPD leader Sigmar Gabriel joined the critical voices on Saturday. "We have to get from a chaotic to an orderly immigration," he told several regional newspapers.
Border checks needed to be improved and refugee quotas introduced to control how many people come to Germany, he said.
Germany could take in more than the 200,000 refugees proposed by Seehofer as a cap for this year, but the quota should be significantly below last year's number, he said.
Merkel has vowed to "measurably reduce" arrivals this year, but has refused to introduce a cap, saying it would be impossible to enforce without closing German borders.
Instead, she has tried to convince European partners to take on quotas of refugees, pushed for reception centers to be built on Europe's external borders, and led an EU campaign to convince Turkey to keep refugees from entering the bloc. But progress has been slow.
"If the measures have no impact in the spring, we're moving towards numbers that become difficult," Gabriel said.
Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble defended Merkel and said the problem had to be solved at Europe's external borders. But he added: "The time to accomplish this is limited" and "things are moving too slowly in Europe."
Schaeuble also proposed a special tax on gasoline in EU states to finance refugee-related costs such as strengthening external borders.
