As for living for 1000 years, I think that was a factor of climate/atmosphere. It's clear this planet was shrouded in thick moisture filled air for a long time. The air was very wet and oxygen rich compared to now. This is what enabled the large dinosaur beasts to survive and when the atmosphere changed it bought about the demise of those beasts. There was no longer the oxygen density that they needed to get the oxygen required and the moisture content of the air was also mostly gone. This meant they no longer could get the moisture they needed to survive.

Given the size of the beasts there would simply not be enough time in the day for them to suck in enough oxygen and drink enough water to sustain themselves and leave time for other things like eating. Of course food would have also diminished with the change in atmosphere.

All the water fell out of the air when the atmosphere changed. Sound like a familiar story?
