If you were put to the challenge stated below in this article, would you be able to do it? What skills do you think you would need to have, learn or sharpen before living like a 10th century farmer? Well this is what happened to a young Russian man when he was selected to be the protagonist of a show in which he must live for months at a time like a farmer from the past. In 2013, a medieval re-enactment group set out to see what it would be like to survive a cold Russian winter in the Middle Ages. In an experiment launched in Khotkovo, 60 kilometers northeast of Moscow, they selected one of their members, Pavel Sapozhnikov, to live on a farmstead for eight months as part of a project entitled – Alone in the Past. The idea was to see if a modern person can survive (http://3f021f-eav5ciudo6gydv8kje6.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=npart)in a 10th-century environment with no access to electricity, the Internet, or other modern comforts to trace the social and psychological changes in personality and learn how important the support of others is to modern humans.
Winter was the season of choice because of the scarcity of resources and the number of challenges it raises against survival. Winter was a frightening time for many people and the most dangerous time in the medieval calendar.

Pavel is a citizen of the modern world with no prior experience of living in such conditions. However, to prepare himself, he studied a lot of information (https://secure.avangate.com/affiliate.php?ACCOUNT=BRENTVEN&AFFILIATE=39149&PATH=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bulletproofhome.com%2Fvsl%2F index.php&AFFSRC=npart/newlife/11)and practiced ancient skills. The essence, according to Pavel, was to live on the replica of an ancient farm, devoid of any modern conveniences or communication.

During winter, temperatures in the region can drop as low as 30°C and snow covers the ground for months. This time period and was deliberately chosen to highlight exactly how difficult Russian ancestors would have found living, and hunting, in these conditions.

In Germany I remember hearing that the houses were built over barns .. so that the animal heat would help keep the house warm. I suppose the smell covered up lack of sanitary facilities as well.

I have heard that it was common practice to quarter stock in the basement in the winter time in this country in the past. One of the farmhouses I've lived in would seem to point to this. Walk-out basement doors and wooden corrals in basement.

There defenately no atheist in the country.....in the city yes

But not in the country.

When you live a life where you are just one mistake or injury from death...you quickly acknowlege a higher power.

And that is before you have to wonder if your home will be plundered by whomever sees it.

Special hat tip to our forefathers

Maybe

when your young and you have strenght to do just about anything...you are under this grand delusion of self.

But as you get up in years and the youth snd vigor starts to wane and you see what time does to every man.

You take on a new perspective.

When you live in that back country and your splitting wood and a splinter lands in your eye and you drop your razor sharp axe and it just misses your shin or foot and your in the middle of nowhere it wont be long before you realize it wasnt dum luck that saved your ass.

I have willpower. Religious people don't. They need a crutch.

Some people resort to alcohol and drugs as a crutch. Some go to Cultural Marxism. Some believe in an imaginary friend who agrees with their world view based on where they came from.

In about 25 years I will be close to 70 and you will be close to 50

I will invite you to my place in the winter months and have my wife whip up piping hot mugs of spearmint tea and as we look on as my grand kids and great grands play in the snow with that unending energy that they have.

I will remind you about your statement about willpower and not needing a crutch..

Then we will have a very good chuckle about it after time and lifehave given us a good set of lashes.

It'd be interesting reading what you say about your current opinions 40 or 50 years from now...if you survive that long.

That's plausible, but I've been an atheist most of my life and never felt a need for religion.

I believe some people are born with weak temporal lobes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helmet) which makes them not have spiritual experiences like the normal person. These people naturally become atheists.

Exactly.

>there are no atheists in foxholes

The complete opposite is true. There are no Christians in foxholes.

Why would a Christian dig a foxhole? Christians believe that Yahweh is an omnipotent and loving god. Why dig foxholes when you believe god is on your side?

When you see a Christian dive in a foxhole, he is admitting that he doesn’t even believe in his own bullshit. He trusts a hole in the ground over his god. He has lost his faith. Like the Pope riding around in his bullet proof Pope Mobile.

It reminds of a joke

The weatherman told this christian that a flood was gonna sweep his house away

No God will protect me

The flood cAme and as the house was filling up a boat came by telling him to get in

No God will protect me

The water kept rising and he was on the roof of the house a helicopter came by telling him to grab the rope

No God will protect me

Well sure enough he drowned when he got to the pearly gates he said Lord i believed you would always protect me why did you let me drown?

A voice boomed back.

Son I sent you a Weather report, a rescue boat and a finally a helicopter WHAT MORE DID YOU WANT?

How does this apply.

If i dive in a foxhole as bullets a whizzing by ...im not denying my faith.

Im putting my faith in to paractice by using my God given common sense to avoid danger.

Why would a Christian dig a foxhole?

In the military plane a foxhole is slit trench.

In the civilian plane it is likely you just jumped in lookin' for Jimmy Hoffa.

In Mormon folklore (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_folklore), tales are told of Latter-day Saints who credit their temple garments with helping them survive car wrecks, fires, and natural disasters.

Use the brain God gave you, temporal lobe or not, and you are better off instead of Believing that he will save you no matter what you do or don't.

Everything we know of has an origin of creation, everything we know of was created by something else. This implies there is always a creator.

You seem to jump from atheist to religion, leaving out the creator in the middle of your statement.

What do you think religion is...it is an institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. You can have belief in the creator, without having a belief in religion.

Saying you are an atheist means to me, you have no belief in anything...there are no spirits, ghosts, aliens, space is not infinite, time is not eternal, anything beyond man's reach does not exist. To go a step further, with no God as creator, there are no miracles, there is no love. It's just science.

Sometimes I think you are just crying out for help, because your world is so devoid of love and feeling. It's unhealthy and it's understandable.

We will help put you on the right path, if you just ask.
