University of Connecticut to Build Blacks-Only Segregated Dorm

The University of Connecticut has recently come under fire for planning to build an all-black male dormitory titled “SCHOLA2RS House” (Scholastic House Of Leaders who are African American Researchers and Scholars).

From UConn’s official website:

“Uconn SCHOLA2RS House is a scholastic initiative to groom, nurture, and train the next generation of leaders to address grand challenges in society through the promotion of academic success in undergraduate programs at the University of Connecticut and in competitive graduate programs.”

Back in the '70s I worked on the plans for an offshore drilling rig that had an area blocked out labeled NATIVE QUARTERS. No details (this means no electric or plumbing) and a hole shown in the floor (sanitary system). I inquired of details and was told this African nation required the drilling company to employ a certain percentage of natives. They didn't expect them to do anything. They were on the books and this was their home while at sea.
