nobody can stand up to him. made major league baseball at 20 years old....played three years.....then decided to switch to nba for long career.

sure some people will say other people played football and baseball. there are several of them - so nothing special.

ainge is the ONLY one with the mad skills required to make mlb and nba.

proclaiming ainge greatest of generation always elicits groans -- until i bash them over the head with the facts.

the africans REALLY get butt hurt about ainge outranking their boyz. they'll throw out jordan, deion sanders, bo jackson, etc, etc.

fact is NOBODY did what ainge did - make it to the elite level of basketball and baseball.

basketball is the key cull - tiny number of jobs compared to football/baseball

They are essentially two sport athletes all in one:

1. they are professional level ice skaters (most people can't even skate)
2. they are as tough and strong as NFL players and boxers
3. they are extremely coordinated (hands, eyes, feet)
4. they have tremendous endurance
5. they are overwhelmingly white

Danny Ainge wasn't on skates.

In baseball, Danny Ainge occasionally got beaned or taken out via aggressive sliding.
In basketball, Danny Ainge occasionally took a charge or an elbow to the face.
(not exactly physical punishment compared to hockey)

A hockey puck is smaller than a baseball and moves just as fast.

It's more difficult to be athletic in hockey gear vs. baseball/basketball attire.
(even without skates on)

Conclusion:
Average NHL player > Danny Ainge

not many people try to play hockey - so not a big pool to compete against. just like jim thorpe's day. few people bothered with sports

still, i DO respect hockey's skating skills. people overlook that.

because of the low participation rate -- the best hockey players in the world never even tried it
