I think they are probably doing a promotion and trying to get some publicity because of the recent landmark detection of gravitational waves at LIGO. The cosmos is in the public's thoughts and imagination at the moment, and he's helping his friends out in their publicity campaign for their film.

You don't know the history. We had a very similar banner (for the principle) for a long time, before. Eventually these things starts to become very annoying, and we complained about it, a bit longer, a couple of weeks more JQP said, and it stayed for months on and for some members the trailer started playing automatically...
