LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles authorities say the wife of former Eagles band member Randy Meisner was killed when a rifle she was handling accidentally discharged and shot her in the head.

A police news release says officers found 63-year-old Lana Rae Meisner dead on Sunday from a single gunshot wound at the couple's home in the San Fernando Valley.

Investigators say Lana Rae Meisner lifted the rifle from a storage case when another item inside shifted and hit the trigger, causing the gun to fire.

Police say Randy Meisner was cooperative throughout the investigation. Officials say police had responded to the home earlier Sunday and took a domestic violence incident report.

Randy Meisner co-founded the Eagles and co-wrote and sang the hit "Take It To the Limit." He played bass and guitar and left the band in 1977.

Lana Rae Meisner, 63, called the cops around 5:30 p.m. to report a drunken man in their Studio City house. Police took a domestic violence report and left without incident.

But Randy Meisner, 69, called police about 90 minutes later, saying his wife had been shot, police said.

His wife died in a closet after a rifle accidentally fired, hitting her in the face or head, a police source told the Daily News. She had tried lifting the gun from a case, but another item in the case hit the trigger and pulled it, police said.

“Based on the evidence at the scene, it appears to be a complete accident,” a police source told the Daily News.

“No foul play whatsoever. There is nothing indicative that it was a murder at all.”

Randy was in another part of the house when the gun went off, police said. The former Eagles bassist has not been charged for any crime.

Stories of odd behavior by former Eagles bassist and vocalist Randy Meisner go way back to the days when he was a member of the group. Meisner was a member of the Eagles from 1971 to 1977 and is best known for his soaring vocals at the end of Take it to the Limit, a song he co-wrote and sang.Legend has it that Meisner was fired from the group because he would, from time to time, imagine that he could no longer sing the high notes in the song.

Now it seems that , according to the New York Daily News, the former Eagle is under around-the-clock care and has been appointed a conservator. It’s reported that Meisner was very contentious during a recent court hearing and that lead to the appointment of a conservator. According to the new report, it was during the hearing that there were some disturbing allegations about the former Eagles bassist’s well-being and recent behavior.

Among that disturbing news was information that included medical records indicating Meisner threatened to shoot hospital staff and end his own life by ingesting all of his medication. It does sound, at least from the evidence known to the public, that Meisner may have some mental issues, but he’s not alone in his aberrations.

Earlier this year, a longtime friend of Meisner’s by the name of James Newton made a few headlines of his own with accusations about Meisner’s wife, Lana. According to Newton, Meisner’s wife kept him drunk nearly around the clock because he was easier to control when he was drunk. While that may or may not be true, Lana Meisner is no stranger to strange behavior herself.

Lana has been accused of some pretty bizarre behavior herself. Gossip has it that she has complained about being spied upon. According to the story the people spying on her all wear clown suits.

We can’t wait to learn more about this story.

Former Eagles and Poco bassist Randy Meisner denied the rumor that his wife, Lana, is trying to kill him, according to TMZ.com. Meisner, who’s now 69, squashed the accusations by friend James Newton, who filed courts papers seeking a conservatorship of Meisner, stating that the musician is in desperate need of rehab, suffering from brain damage, and at times goes unbathed for a solid month --

while wife Lana squanders Meisner's royalties, which bring in between $300,000 and $500,000 annually

These people must have done some heavy drugs !

The hearing was held at the behest of Meisner’s longtime friend James Newton, who made headlines earlier this year (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/randy-meisner-wife-trying-to-kill-him/) after accusing Meisner’s wife Lana of keeping him in a “state of near-constant inebriation” because “he is easier to control when he’s drunk.” The Meisners seemed to shrug off Newton’s efforts to establish a conservatorship at the time, but for at least the next few weeks, they’ll need to do a better job of proving he isn’t a danger to himself and others.
Things apparently got fairly testy in the courtroom, where Meisner’s wife — who is accused of exhibiting her own bizarre behavior, including complaining about being spied on by people dressed in clown suits — stormed out during the hearing. Newton asked for a sheriff’s escort out of the hearing, saying Lana Meisner “attacked” him verbally in the hallway after Cunningham’s ruling.
