Joint Victory Campaign 2004 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderprofile.asp?fndid=5342): Founded by George Soros and Harold Ickes (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1624), this group was a major fundraising entity for Democrats during the 2004 election cycle. It collected contributions (including large amounts from Soros personally) and disbursed them to two other groups, America Coming Together (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6708) and the Media Fund (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6712), which also worked on behalf of Democrats.

Lynne Stewart (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=861) Defense Committee: IRS records indicate that Soros’s Open Society Institute made a September 2002 grant of $20,000 to this organization. Stewart was the criminal-defense attorney who was later convicted for abetting her client, the “blind sheik” Omar Abdel Rahman (http://www.discoverthenetwork.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1685), in terrorist activities connected with his Islamic Group (http://www.discoverthenetwork.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6300).

MADRE (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6770): This international women’s organization deems America the world’s foremost violator of human rights. As such, it seeks to “communicat[e] (http://www.madre.org/mission.html) the real-life impact of U.S. policies on women and families confronting violence, poverty and repression around the world,” and to “demand alternatives to destructive U.S. policies.” It also advocates unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand.

By Discover The Networks
February 2011

While George Soros was busy bankrolling his battalion of established activist groups and launching a few new ones of his own, he quite naturally looked toward the upcoming presidential election of 2008 with great anticipation, eagerly awaiting the day when George W. Bush would finally leave office. The question was, who would replace him? In recent years, all indications had been that Soros favored Hillary Clinton (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=18) above most, if not all, other potential Democratic (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6214) candidates for President. But now there was a new face on the scene¯a young, charismatic U.S. senator from Illinois named Barack Obama (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1511)¯who seemed not only to share virtually all of Soros's values and agendas, but also appeared to be a highly skilled politician who stood a good chance of getting elected to the nation's highest office.

In December of 2006, Soros, who had previously hosted a fundraiser for Obama during the latter's 2004 Senate campaign, met with Obama in Soros's New York office. Just a few weeks later¯on January 16, 2007¯Obama announced that he would form a presidential exploratory committee and was contemplating a run for the White House. Within hours, Soros sent the senator a contribution of $2,100, the maximum amount allowable under campaign-finance laws. Later that week, the New York Daily News reported that Soros would support Obama rather than Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, though Soros pledged to back the New York senator (http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_43/b4055047.htm) were she to emerge as the nominee.1 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote1sym) But it was clear that Soros considered Obama to be the more electable candidate of the two. Most importantly, Obama's economic and political prescriptions for America were wholly accordant with those of Soros.

Anti-Capitalism

Obama's anti-capitalist background and views are well documented: His father was a communist; his mother was a communist sympathizer;2 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote2sym) in his youth he was mentored by the communist Frank Marshall Davis (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2323); he sought out Marxist friends and professors at Occidental College; he attended Socialist Scholars Conferences (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6532) in New York; he was trained in the community-organizing methods of Saul Alinsky (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2314), a communist fellow traveler; he developed close ties to the pro-socialist community organization ACORN (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6968); he developed close personal and political ties to the infamous Marxists (and former domestic terrorists) Bill Ayers (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2169) and Bernardine Dohrn (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2190); he was hand-picked for his first political office by Alice Palmer (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2325), a pro-Soviet figure in Illinois; in the 1990s he became a member of the New Party (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7434), a socialist political coalition; he had close connections to the Midwest Academy (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6725), a radical training ground which author Stanley Kurtz has described as a “crypto-socialist organization”;3 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote3sym) and he spent twenty years attending the church of Rev. Jeremiah Wright (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2307), who preaches the Marxist doctrines of liberation theology. As President, Obama appointed Carol Browner (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2364), a former “commissioner” of the Socialist International as his “environment czar”;4 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote4sym) he employed a White House communications director (Anita Dunn (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2434)) who cited Mao Zedong (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2073) as one of her “favorite political philosophers”;5 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote5sym) he appointed a “science czar,” John Holdren (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2368), who views capitalism as a system that is inherently destructive of the environment;6 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote6sym) he appointed Van Jones (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2406), a longtime revolutionary communist, as his “green jobs czar”;7 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote7sym) and he strongly favors the redistribution of wealth, both within the U.S. and across international borders. The list, of course, could go on and on.

George Soros, too, harbors many negative views about capitalism and free markets. “The entire edifice of global financial markets has been erected on the false premise that markets can be left to their own devices,” says Soros. “We must find a new paradigm and rebuild from the ground up.”8 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote8sym) According to Soros (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbF09-ZkII), the capitalist “belief that everybody pursuing his self-interest will maximize the common interest … is a false idea.”9 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote9sym) Calling the global capitalist system “deeply flawed,” Soros maintains that “as long as capitalism remains triumphant, the pursuit of money overrides all other social considerations.”10 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote10sym) As Soros sees things, capitalism “is today a greater threat than any totalitarian ideology.”11 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote11sym) Lamenting that “the richest 1 percent of the world's population receive as much as the poorest 57 percent,”12 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote12sym) Soros suggests that only by reining in “global capitalism” can that gap be narrowed. He further complains that global capitalism, by encouraging the free flow of money across international borders, reduces the vital “ability of the state to provide Social Security to its citizens.”13 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote13sym) “The globalization of financial markets has rendered the welfare state that came into existence after World War II obsolete,” Soros explains, “because the people who require a social safety net cannot leave the country, but the capital the welfare state used to tax can.”14 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote14sym)

Soros's proposed remedy for this problem is a worldwide war on poverty that would transform the entire planet into a global welfare state, a sort of open-society alliance where “a kind of international central bank” could redistribute wealth from rich populations to poor ones.15 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote15sym) Toward this end, Soros announced (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/13/AR2006091300283.html) in September 2006 that he would donate $50 million to the United Nations Millennium Project (http://www.unmillenniumproject.org/press/07.htm), a massive redistributive scheme calling for the governments of wealthy countries to commit 0.7% of their GNP to promoting “the economic development and welfare of developing countries.”16 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote16sym) Heading this Project (from 2002-2006) was Jeffrey Sachs, the economist who had worked (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977) with Soros in Russia during the Bill Clinton (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=644) administration. As evidenced by his participation in the Millennium Project,17 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote17sym) Sachs has radically altered (http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2010/12/confirmed-soros-associate-jeffrey-sachs.html) his former pro-capitalist positions. Indeed, in recent times he has praised socialists as “both the heirs and the leaders of the world's most important and most successful political path”; he has lauded their “strong commitment to universalist ethical principles and fiscal re-distribution”; and he has voiced regret that America's lack of “commitment to re-distribution” has “enabled a massive underclass to develop.”18 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote18sym)

Similarly, George Soros sees “the global capitalist system in its present form” as “a distortion of what ought to be a global open society.”19 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote19sym) He suggests (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/open-society-soros-explains-the-anti-capitalist-pro-marxist-tactics-he-uses-to-fundamentally-transform-countries/%20) that if the “market fundamentalism in America” were “eliminated,” then “the public interest would be better served” by way of “a more equal distribution of wealth.”20 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote20sym)

In a November 2008 interview (http://www.spiegel.de/international/business/0,1518,592268,00.html), Soros was asked whether he supported programs falling under the rubric of “big-government” or “European-style 'socialism.'” He replied, “That is exactly what we need now. I am against market fundamentalism. I think this propaganda that government involvement is always bad has been very successful—but also very harmful to our society.”21 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote21sym)

In October 2009, Soros told (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/open-society-soros-explains-the-anti-capitalist-pro-marxist-tactics-he-uses-to-fundamentally-transform-countries/%20) a Central European University audience that “there is a deep-seated conflict between capitalism and open society.” He observed, moreover, that “Karl Marx['s] proposition” of communist redistributionism “was a very attractive idea” that might well have succeeded if not for the unfortunate fact that “the communist rulers put their own interests ahead of the interests of the people.”22 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote22sym) “The failure of the central planning model did not prove the validity of the free enterprise model,” says Soros. “... There is a better way of looking at the world. It is based on the postulate of radical fallibility, according to which all our constructs are flawed in one way or another. Specifically, both models—Communism and free enterprise, or market fundamentalism, as I have rechristened it—are deficient; the deficiency in each one can be cured only by taking some elements from the other.”23 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote23sym)

The Call for Global Government

Soros's desire for a worldwide welfare structure is consistent with his general preference for some form of global government. In 1998 he wrote that “insofar as there are collective interests that transcend state boundaries, the sovereignty of states must be subordinated to international law and international institutions.” “The greatest opposition to this idea,” he added somberly, “is coming from the United States.”24 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote24sym)

Soros has continued to espouse this perspective ever since. At a 2003 event (http://www.apj.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3208&Itemid=2), a questioner asked Soros whether he and his foundations could “help to bring more foreign influence into the United States instead of relying on what is essentially a balance between Democrats and conservative Republicans, which hasn't worked and is not about to start working.” Soros replied:

“I think you put your finger on a very important flaw in the current world order. And that is that only Americans have a vote in Congress. And yet it is the United States that basically determines policy for the world. That is a flaw in the current setup. I don't think you can correct it by giving the Chinese government a vote in Congress. But it is a flaw, and I think this is where American leadership is needed, to take into account and respect the interests of others as well, in order to retain the dominant position we currently enjoy.”25 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote25sym)

This call for increased “foreign influence” in American political life is congruent with President Obama's position on the matter. In March 2009, for instance, Obama appointed Harold Koh (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2385), the dean of Yale Law School, as legal advisor to the U.S. State Department. Koh is an advocate of transnationalism (http://pcr.hudson.org/files/publications/2008_Bradley_Symposium_Fonte_Essay.pdf), a concept arguing in favor of “global governance” as opposed to the constitutional sovereignty of independent nation-states. This perspective holds that the world's most challenging problems are too complex and deep-rooted for any single country to address effectively on its own. The solution, says Koh, is for all members of the international community to recognize a set of supranational laws and institutions whose authority overrides those of any particular government.26 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote26sym)

In March 2007, Koh chastised (http://www.internationalrelations.house.gov/110/koh032907.pdf) the U.S. for having “unwisely disengaged from various institutions that promote fundamental human rights, chief among them the International Criminal Court (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6984) [which would subordinate American criminal-justice procedures in certain cases to those of an international tribunal] and the newly established Human Rights Council (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7279)” of the United Nations¯a Council whose membership (http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/227209/obama-joins-human-rights-charade-anne-bayefsky) includes a number of nations known for their unrestrained anti-Semitism and human-rights abuses.27 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote27sym) President Obama ultimately announced (http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/227209/obama-joins-human-rights-charade-anne-bayefsky), in 2009, that the U.S. would join the Council for the first time.28 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote28sym) In November 2010, this Council made headlines when it harshly berated (http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/11/04/united-nations-human-rights-council/) America for its alleged discrimination against Muslims, its barbaric police practices, its use of torture against enemies abroad, and its religious intolerance.29 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote29sym)

Another Obama official¯Eric P. Schwartz, the administration's assistant secretary of state for population, refugees and migration¯formerly served (http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=185013) as director of the U.S. Connect Fund, a Soros-financed organization that promotes global governance.30 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote30sym)

Fiscal Policy

Just a few days after Barack Obama was elected President, George Soros stated (http://www.spiegel.de/international/business/0,1518,592268,00.html): “I think we need a large stimulus package which will provide funds for state and local government to maintain their budgets¯because they are not allowed by the constitution to run a deficit. For such a program to be successful, the federal government would need to provide hundreds of billions of dollars. In addition, another infrastructure program is necessary. In total, the cost would be in the 300 to 600 billion-dollar range....”31 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote31sym)

Soon thereafter, as one of the first priorities of his presidency, Obama pressured Congress to pass a monumental $787 billion economic-stimulus bill whose text was 1,071 pages long¯and which few, if any, legislators read before voting on it. Obama stressed the urgency of passing this bill at the earliest possible moment, so as to forestall any further harm to the U.S. economy. Notably, the legislation repealed (http://townhall.com/Common/PrintPage.aspx?g=f52c747b-298a-465b-9d26-bce95f296633&t=c) numerous essentials of the 1996 welfare-reform bill against which George Soros had so strongly rebelled.32 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote32sym) According to a Heritage Foundation report (http://www.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=33989), 32 percent of the new stimulus bill—or an average of $6,700 in “new means-tested welfare spending” for every poor person in the U.S.—was earmarked for social-welfare programs.33 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote33sym) Such unprecedented levels of spending did not at all trouble Soros, who said: “At times of recession, running a budget deficit is highly desirable.”34 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote34sym) In December 2009, Obama concurred again—outlining a set of new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals while explaining (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9CF8SIO0&show_article=1) that America must continue to “spend our way out of this recession.”35 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote35sym)

Taxes

In a 2008 interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbF09-ZkII) with Bill Moyers, George Soros derided wealthy Americans who wished to have their tax burden lightened. According to Soros, such people were selfishly eager to “enjo[y] the fruits” of their affluence even as they viewed the act of “paying taxes” as “an absolute no-no”—indeed something veritably “unpatriotic.”36 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote36sym)

By Soros's telling, taxes are inherently desirable in good times and bad alike. In 2010, for instance, he stated that although the U.S. economy was in the midst of a prolonged downturn, it would be imprudent for lawmakers to extend the Bush-era tax cuts which were due to expire on January 1, 2011; such a course of action, he warned, would be “the wrong policy” and would cause the recession to deepen further.37 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote37sym) Soros proposed, instead, that the existing tax rates be permitted to return to their previous, higher levels, and that whatever extra revenue those elevated rates might generate should be used to finance yet another federal “stimulus” program.38 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote38sym) This suggestion was consistent with the funding priorities Soros has long pursued through his Open Society Institute (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderProfile.asp?fndid=5181). A substantial percentage of the organizations bankrolled by OSI favor high taxes to fill the coffers of an ever-expanding, government-run welfare state.

Likewise, Barack Obama's long track record in support of high income taxes, capital gains taxes, and estate taxes for “the wealthy” is well documented.39 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote39sym) Thus it was not surprising that Obama, through most of his early presidency, adamantly opposed any extension of the Bush tax cuts beyond their scheduled expiration date. But as the economy foundered and the President's popularity waned—to say nothing of the historic losses suffered by congressional Democrats in the midterm elections—Obama began to restrict his calls for a tax hike only to those in the highest income brackets.40 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote40sym) In the end, the President, recognizing that the electorate fiercely opposed higher taxes for anyone, pragmatically agreed to extend all the Bush tax cuts for two more years—a move that displeased George Soros greatly.41 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote41sym)

Soros's public stance in favor of higher tax rates for the wealthy is nothing short of remarkable, in light of the fact that he himself has taken some noteworthy measures to avoid paying taxes of his own. Consider, for instance, that his multi-billion-dollar Quantum Fund is actually incorporated on the tiny island of Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles, located in the Caribbean. As such, Soros avoids paying U.S. taxes on it. Americans who invest in his Fund likewise escape the tax man entirely. Their interest, dividends, and capital-gains earnings are taxed only if they are brought into the United States.42 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote42sym) And these investors are precisely the types of high earners who, according to Soros, should be willing to do their “patriotic” duty and pay the taxes that they can well afford; the minimum investment for the Quantum Fund is $100,000 (http://books.google.com/books?id=dcNMZTnEz6UC&pg=PA112&lpg=PA112&dq=%22minimum+investment%22+in+the+%22quantum+fund %22+and+$100,000&source=bl&ots=ZY0-NiS9HO&sig=YUuvJD1TnbpQ-Lk3u5aTgqXqQxk&hl=en&ei=vhkrTZD-MMKt8Abs0f2MAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&sqi=2&ved=0CCwQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=%22minimum%20investment%22%20in%20the%20%22quant um%20fund%22%20and%20$100,000&f=false).43 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote43sym)

By no means has the Quantum Fund been Soros's only foray into tax-avoiding, offshore business enterprises. Indeed, Soros's real-estate company, Mapeley Steps, is headquartered in yet another tax haven, Bermuda. In 2001 this firm purchased more than 600 buildings from Inland Revenue (Britain's equivalent of the IRS) and then leased them to the British government for a princely sum—but paid no taxes, thanks to the Bermuda address.44 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote44sym)

Just as Soros has spoken out against calls to reduce income taxes, so has he consistently sided against proposals to lower or eliminate the estate tax (a.k.a. “death tax”), calling it “a valuable taxation” because it “does not interfere with wealth creation” and it “increases social equality.”45 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote45sym) In 2003, Soros and some fellow billionaires went so far as to sign a public letter stating that a repeal of the estate tax “would enrich the heirs of America's millionaires and billionaires while hurting families who struggle to make ends meet.”46 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote46sym) Yet Soros has creatively found a way for his own heirs to avoid paying any estate taxes, as he once explained:

“A charitable trust is a very interesting tax gimmick. The idea is that you commit your assets to a trust and you put a certain amount of money into charity every year. And then after you have given the money for however many years, the principal that remains can be left [to one's heirs] without estate or gift tax. So this is the way I set up the trust for my children.”47 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1276#sdfootnote47sym)

NEW TARGET FOR "REGIME CHANGE": AMERICA

But right now, in 2003-04, Soros's primary focus was on the United States, whose government he considered to be at least as dangerous and oppressive as those of the aforementioned communist and authoritarian regimes. “I believe deeply in the values of an open society,” Soros said. “For the past 15 years I have focused my energies on fighting for these values abroad. Now I am doing it in the United States.”223 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote223sym) Asserting that he could “do a lot more about the issues I care about by changing the government than by pushing the issues,”224 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote224sym) Soros set out to “puncture the bubble of American supremacy.”225 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote225sym) To accomplish this, he would create a political apparatus of extraordinary influence.

Soros had quietly laid the groundwork for this apparatus during the preceding eight years. Between 1994 and 2002, the billionaire had spent millions of dollars promoting the passage of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform (http://97.74.65.51/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=11100)Act (http://97.74.65.51/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=11100)—better known as the McCain-Feingold Act (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=456) 226 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote226sym)— which was signed into law in November 2002 by President Bush. Soros began working on this issue shortly after the 1994 midterm elections, when for the first time in nearly half a century, Republicans won strong majorities in both houses of Congress. Political analysts at the time attributed the huge Republican gains in large part to the effectiveness of television advertising—most notably the “Harry and Louise (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/business/media/17adco.html)” series (which cost $14 million (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/business/media/17adco.html) to produce and air) where a fictional suburban couple exposed the many hidden, and distasteful, details of Hillary Clinton's proposals for a more socialized national health-care system. Indeed the 1994 election became, to a considerable degree, a referendum on this attempted government takeover of one-sixth of the U.S. economy—and on the Democratic President who had tacitly endorsed it. George Soros was angry that such advertisements were capable of overriding the influence of the major print and broadcast news media, which, because they were overwhelmingly sympathetic to Democrat agendas, had given Hillary's plan a great deal of free, positive publicity for months. Three weeks after the 1994 elections, Soros announced that he intended to “do something” about “the distortion of our electoral process by the excessive use of TV advertising.”227 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote227sym) That “something” would be campaign-finance reform.

Starting in 1994, Soros's Open Society Institute and a few other leftist foundations began bankrolling front groups and so-called “experts” whose aim was to persuade Congress to swallow the fiction that millions of Americans were clamoring for “campaign-finance reform.” This deceptive strategy was the brainchild of Sean Treglia, a former program officer with the Pew Charitable Trusts (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderProfile.asp?fndid=5213).228 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote228sym) Between 1994 and 2004, some $140 million of foundation cash was used to promote campaign-finance reform. Nearly 90 percent of this amount derived from just eight foundations, one of which was the Open Society Institute, which contributed $12.6 million to the cause.229 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote229sym) Among the major recipients of these OSI funds were such pro-reform organizations as the Alliance For Better Campaigns ($650,000); the Brennan Center for Justice (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6922) (more than $3.3 million); the Center For Public Integrity ($1.7 million); the Center For Responsive Politics ($75,000); Common Cause (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7610) ($625,000); Democracy 21 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7351) ($300,000); Public Campaign ($1.3 million); and Public Citizen (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6430) ($275,000).230 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote230sym)

The "research" which these groups produced in order to make a case on behalf of campaign-finance reform was largely bogus and contrived. For instance (http://www.citizen.org/congress/article_redirect.cfm?ID=9776), Brennan Center political scientist Jonathan Krasno had clearly admitted in his February 19, 1999 grant proposal to the Pew Charitable Trusts that the purpose of the proposed study was political, not scholarly, and that the project would be axed if it failed to yield the desired results:
"The purpose of our acquiring the data set is not simply to advance knowledge for its own sake, but to fuel a continuous multi-faceted campaign to propel campaign reform forward. Whether we proceed to phase two will depend on the judgment of whether the data provide a sufficiently powerful boost to the reform movement."
The stated purpose of McCain-Feingold was to purge politics of corruption by: (a) putting restrictions on paid advertising during the weeks just prior to political elections, and (b) tightly regulating the amount of money that political parties and candidates could accept from donors. Vis à vis the former of those two provisions, the new legislation barred private organizations—including unions, corporations, and citizen activist groups—from advertising for or against any candidate for federal office on television or radio during the 60 days preceding an election, and during the 30 days preceding a primary. During these blackout periods, only official political parties would be permitted to engage in “express advocacy” advertising—i.e., political ads that expressly urged voters to “vote for” or “vote against” a specified candidate. Equally important, major media networks were exempted from McCain-Feingold's constraints; thus they were free to speak about candidates in any manner they wished during their regular programming and news broadcasts. This would inevitably be a positive development for Democrats, who enjoyed the near-universal support of America's leading media outlets.231 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote231sym)

In addition to its limits on pre-election political advertising, McCain-Feingold also placed onerous new restrictions on the types of donations which candidates, parties, and political action committees (PACs) could now accept. Previously, they had been permitted to take two types of contributions. One of these was “hard money (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=813),” which referred to funds earmarked for the purpose of express advocacy. Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations stipulated (http://www.fec.gov/press/bkgnd/bcra_overview.shtml) that in a single calendar year, no hard-money donor could give more than $1,000 to any particular candidate, no more than $5,000 to a PAC, and no more than $20,000 to any political party.232 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote232sym)

The other category of pre-McCain-Feingold donations was “soft-money (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/Articles/theshadowpartypoe2004.html),” which donors were permitted to give directly to a political party in amounts unlimited by law. But to qualify for designation as “soft money,” a donation could not be used to fund “express advocacy” ads on behalf of any particular candidate. Rather, it had to be used to pay for such things as “voter-education” ads or “issue-oriented” ads—political messages that carefully refrained from making explicit calls to “vote for” or “vote against” any specific candidate. So long as an ad steered clear of uttering such forbidden instructions, there was no limit as to how much soft money could be spent on its production and dissemination.

McCain-Feingold raised the per-donor maximum for certain hard-money donations: A donor could now give up to $2,000 to a candidate, $5,000 to a PAC, and $25,000 to a political party.233 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote233sym) But the new law banned soft-money contributions to political parties altogether.

Historically, Republicans had enjoyed a 2-1 advantage over Democrats (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6214) in raising hard money from individual donors. Democrats had relied much more heavily on soft money (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=813) from large institutions such as labor unions.234 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote234sym) Thus it seems counter-intuitive that Soros, who clearly favored Democrats over Republicans, would seek to push legislation whose net effect—the removal of soft money—would be unfavorable to Democratic Party fundraising efforts.

But Soros's motive becomes clear when we look at the types of organizations whose fundraising activities were left unaffected by McCain-Feingold. These were “527 committees (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=813)”—nonprofits named after Section 527 of the IRS code—which, unlike ordinary PACS, were not required to register with the FEC. Run mostly by special-interest groups, these 527s were technically supposed to be independent of, and unaffiliated with, any party or candidate. As such, they were permitted to raise soft money—in amounts unbound by any legal limits—for all manner of political activities other than express advocacy. That is, so long as a 527's soft money was not being used to pay for ads explicitly urging people to cast their ballots either for or against any particular candidate, the letter of the McCain-Feingold law technically was being followed. Practically speaking, of course, such things as “issue-oriented ads” and “voter-education” ads can easily be tailored to favor one party or candidate over another, while carefully steering clear of “express advocacy.”

Once McCain-Feingold was in place, Soros and his political allies collaborated to set up a network of “527 committees” ready to receive the soft money that individual donors and big labor unions normally would have given directly to the Democratic Party. These 527s could then use that money to fund issue-oriented ads, voter-education initiatives, get-out-the-vote drives, and other “party-building” activities—not only to help elect Democratic candidates in 2004, but more broadly to guide the Democratic Party ever-further leftward and to reject the “closed” society that Bush and the Republicans presumably favored. By helping to push McCain-Feingold through Congress, Soros had effectively cut off the Democrats' soft-money supply and diverted it to the coffers of an alternative network of beneficiaries—which he personally controlled.235 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote235sym) As Byron York observed, “[T]he new campaign finance rules had actually increased the influence of big money in politics. By giving directly to 'independent' groups rather than to the party itself, big-ticket donors could influence campaign strategy and tactics more directly than they ever had previously.... And the power was concentrated in very few hands”—most notably Soros's.236 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote236sym)

SOROS'S "SHADOW PARTY" TAKES SHAPE

While Soros's 527s were clearly devoted to Democratic Party agendas and values, they publicly professed to be independent of any party affiliations. Their partisanship was somewhat shrouded in proverbial shadows. Gradually, a number of journalists began to make reference to the emergence of certain pro-Democrat “shadow organizations” that seemed geared toward circumventing McCain-Feingold's soft-money ban. In time, the term “Shadow Party (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=842)” came into use.237 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote237sym)

George Soros set in motion the wheels of this Shadow Party when he gathered a team of political strategists, activists, and Democrat donors at his Long Island beach house on July 17, 2003, to discuss how President Bush could be defeated in the 2004 election. Attendees included such luminaries as OSI director Morton Halperin (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1682); EMILY's List (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6344) founder and abortion-rights activist Ellen Malcolm (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1073); former Clinton chief of staff John Podesta (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1626); Sierra Club (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6930) executive director Carl Pope (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1750); labor leader and former Clinton advisor Steve Rosenthal (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1627); former Clinton speechwriters Jeremy Rosner and Robert Boorstin; and major Democrat donors such as Lewis and Dorothy Cullman, Robert Glaser (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2494), Peter Lewis (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2003), and Robert McKay (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2495).238 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote238sym)

The consensus was that voter turnout—particularly in 17 “swing” or “battleground” states239 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote239sym)— would be the key to unseating President Bush. Steve Rosenthal and Ellen Malcolm—CEO and president, respectively, of a newly formed but poorly funded (http://www.richardpoe.com/2005/10/06/part-1-the-shadow-party/) voter-registration group called America Coming Together (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6708) (ACT)240 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote240sym)— suggested that voters in those swing states should be recruited and mobilized as soon as possible. Agreeing, Soros told the pair that he personally would give ACT $10 million to help maximize its effectiveness. A few other attendees also pledged to give the fledgling group large sums of money: Soros's billionaire friend Peter Lewis (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2003), chairman of the Progressive Corporation, promised to give $10 million; Robert Glaser (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2494), founder and CEO of RealNetworks, promised $2 million; Rob McKay (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2495), president of the McKay Family Foundation, committed $1 million; and benefactors Lewis and Dorothy Cullman pledged $500,000.241 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote241sym)

By early 2004, the administrative core of George Soros's Shadow Party was in place. It consisted of seven ostensibly “independent” nonprofit groups—all but one of which were headquartered in Washington, DC. In a number of cases, these groups shared one another's finances, directors, and corporate officers; occasionally they even shared office space.242 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote242sym) The seven groups were:

1) America Coming Together (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6708) (ACT): Jump-started by Soros's $10 million grant, ACT in 2004 ran what it called (http://actforvictory.org/) “the largest voter-contact program in history,” with more than 1,400 full-time paid canvassers contacting potential voters door-to-door and by phone.243 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote243sym)

2) Center For American Progress (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6709) (CAP): This entity was established to serve as a think tank promoting leftist ideas and policy initiatives. Soros, enthusiastic about the Center's potential, pledged in July 2003 to donate up to $3 million to help get the project off the ground.244 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote244sym) From the outset, CAP's leadership featured a host of former high-ranking officials from the Clinton administration.245 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote245sym) Hillary Clinton predicted that the organization would provide “some new intellectual capital” with which to “build the 21st-century policies that reflect the Democrat Party's values.”246 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote246sym) George Soros and Morton Halperin (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1682) together selected former Clinton chief of staff John Podesta to serve as president of CAP. Podesta said his goal was to develop CAP as a “think tank on steroids,” featuring “a message-oriented war room” that “will send out a daily briefing to refute the positions and arguments of the right.”247 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote247sym)

3) America Votes (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6527): This national coalition coordinated the efforts of many get-out-the-vote organizations and their thousands of contributing activists.248 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote248sym) Soros's support for America Votes would continue well past 2004. Indeed he would donate $2.15 million (http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527cmtedetail_donors.php?ein=204359961&cycle=2006%20) to this coalition in the 2006 election cycle,249 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote249sym) another $1.25 million (http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/527cmtedetail_donors.php?cycle=2008&ein=204359961) in advance of the 2008 elections,250 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote250sym) and yet another $1.25 (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/30/us/politics/30dems.html) million in 2010.251 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote251sym)

4) Media Fund (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6712): Describing itself as “the largest media-buying organization supporting a progressive message” in the United States, this group produced and strategically placed political ads in the print, broadcast, and electronic media.252 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote252sym)

5) Joint Victory Campaign 2004 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderprofile.asp?fndid=5342&category=79) (JVC): This fundraising entity focused on collecting contributions and then disbursing them chiefly to America Coming Together and the Media Fund. In 2004 alone, JVC channeled $19.4 million to the former, and $38.4 million to the latter.253 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote253sym) Soros personally gave JVC more than $12 million (http://www.opensecrets.org/527s/lookup.php?cycle=2010&donor=george%20soros&page=1) that year.254 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote254sym)

6) Thunder Road Group (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6713) (TRG): This political consultancy coordinated strategy for the Media Fund, America Coming Together, and America Votes. Its duties included strategic planning, polling, opposition research, covert operations, and public relations.255 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote255sym)

7) MoveOn.org (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6201): This California-based entity was the only one of the Shadow Party's core groups that was not a new startup operation. Launched in September 1998, MoveOn is a Web-based political network that organizes online activists around specific issues, raises money for Democratic candidates, generates political ads, and is very effective at recruiting young people to support Democrats.256 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote256sym) In November 2003, Soros pledged to give MoveOn $5 million to help its cause.257 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote257sym)

According to Ellen Malcolm of America Coming Together (ACT), the financial commitment which Soros made to these Shadow Party groups in 2003 “was a signal to potential donors that he had looked at what was going on and that this was pretty exciting, and that he was going to stand behind it, and it was the real deal.”258 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote258sym) As Byron York observed, “After Soros signed on, contributions started pouring in.” ACT and the Media Fund alone took in some $200 million—including $20 million from Soros alone. This type of money was unprecedented in American politics.259 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote259sym)

Harold Ickes (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1624), who served as White House deputy chief of staff in the Clinton White House, had a hand in creating every Shadow Party core group except MoveOn. He was also entrusted with the vital task of making these organizations function as a cohesive entity. In 2004, Democratic strategist Harold Wolfson suggested that outside of the official campaign of presidential candidate John Kerry, Ickes “is the most important person in the Democratic Party today.”260 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote260sym)

In addition to its seven core members, the Shadow Party also came to include at least another 30 well-established leftwing activist groups and labor unions that participated in the America Votes coalition. Among the better-known of these were ACORN (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6968); the AFL-CIO (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7507); the AFSCME (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7515); the American Federation of Teachers (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7513); the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7338); the Defenders of Wildlife (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7052) Action Fund; EMILY's List (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6344); the Human Rights Campaign (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7619); the League of Conservation Voters (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6907); the NAACP (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6160); NARAL Pro-Choice America; (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6929) the National Education Association (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7428); People for the American Way (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6400); Planned Parenthood (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7083); the Service Employees International Union (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6535); and the Sierra Club (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6930).261 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote261sym)

New Mexico's then-governor, Democrat Bill Richardson (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2358), observed that “these groups” were “crucial” to the anti-Bush effort. “Now that campaign-finance reform is law,” he said, “organizations like these have become the replacement for the national Democratic Party.”262 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote262sym) And no donor was more heavily invested in these organizations—or in defeating President Bush—than George Soros, who contributed $27,080,105 to pro-Democrat 527s during the 2004 election cycle. The second leading donor was the billionaire insurance entrepreneur Peter Lewis (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2003) ($23,997,220), followed by Hollywood producer Stephen Bing (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2134) ($13,952,682) and Golden West Financial Corporation founders Herbert and Marion Sandler (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2484) ($13,007,959).263 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote263sym)

Between 1994 and 2002, the billionaire had spent millions of dollars promoting the passage of the Bipartisan (http://97.74.65.51/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=11100)

GO AND READ THIS SHIT ... AND THIS MAN NOT IN JAIL ARE WORST ...http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977 .... RADICALIZING AMERICA, ONE STATE AT A TIME: “PLAN” AND THE SECRETARY OF STATE PROJECT

In August 2005, when the Democracy Alliance was just getting off the ground, George Soros's Open Society Institute helped establish yet another new organization—the Progressive Legislative Action Network, or PLAN. Furnishing state legislatures with prewritten “model” legislation reflecting leftist agendas, this group was part and parcel of Soros's methodical campaign to shift American politics and public attitudes toward the left—by gaining a foothold inside the corridors of power on a state-by-state basis.311 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote311sym)

Then, in July 2006, Democracy Alliance (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7151) partner Michael Kieschnick collaborated (http://www.capitalresearch.org/pubs/pdf/v1228145204.pdf) with Becky Bond (who also had affiliations with the New Organizing Institute (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7232) and Working Assets (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7218)) and James Rucker (who co-founded Color of Change (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7555) and formerly served as director of grassroots mobilization for MoveOn.org (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6201) Political Action and Moveon.org Civic Action) to launch a major new initiative called the Secretary of State Project (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7487) (SoSP). This “527 committee” was devoted to helping Democrats (http://www.capitalresearch.org/pubs/pdf/v1228145204.pdf) win secretary-of-state elections in crucial “swing” states—i.e., states where the margin of victory in the 2004 presidential election had been 120,000 votes or less.312 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote312sym) One of the principal duties (http://www.azsos.gov/info/duties.htm) of the secretary of state is to serve as the chief election officer who certifies candidates as well as election results in his or her state.313 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote313sym) The holder of this office, then, can potentially play a key role in determining the winner of a close election. Numerous Democracy Alliance partners became funders of SoSP. Soros was one of them. In 2008, for instance, he personally gave $10,000 (http://forms.irs.gov/politicalOrgsSearch/search/Print.action?formId=32217&formType=E72) to the Project.314 (http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977#sdfootnote314sym)

The “Shadow Party” is a term originally devised by journalists to describe "527" political committees (http://discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=813) promoting Democratic Party (http://discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6214) agendas. It is here used more specifically to refer to the network of non-profit activist groups organized by George Soros (http://discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977) and others to mobilize resources -- money, get-out-the-vote drives, campaign advertising and policy iniatives -- to elect Democratic candidates and guide the Democratic Party towards the left. The Internet fund-raising operation MoveOn.org is a key component. The Shadow Party in this sense was conceived and organized principally by Soros, Hillary Clinton (http://discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=18) and Harold Ickes (http://discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1624). Its efforts are amplified by, and coordinated with, key government unions and the activist groups associated with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) (http://discoverthenetworks.org/groupprofile.asp?grpid=6968). The key organizers of these groups are veterans of the Sixties left. The individuals and organizations listed on this page are some of the major players, past and present, in the Shadow Party. For a comprehensive discussion of the Shadow Party, its constituent members, and its agendas and activities, click here (http://discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6706).

George Soros confirmed as "America's most dangerous man" a label previously given Soros by Daniel Ellsburg in the Pentagon Papers. The stunning revelations are from a George Soros hacked E-mail with the title of "Non paper". The document acquired & released by Ukraine hacktivist group CyberBerkut reveals Soros offer to supply Ukraine with arms in a deal that would side step the Minsk agreement, then backs it up with a promise to invest 1 BILLION dollars of his own money. - LINKS - Download a pdf copy of the 7 page Soros document - http://d01.megashares.com/dl/IgdxFTe/. Russia Issues International ARREST WARRANT For ROTHSCHILD & SOROS!
Mar 9, 2015 75262

Vladimir Putin, now in full control of Russia as Prime Minister (then) NOW President , wishes to build a strong Christian nation. In a televised Christmas message on January 7 2008 Putin said:

“The Russian Orthodox Church contributes to the promotion of moral values in society. One should not completely draw a line between the culture and the church. Of course by law in our country the church is separate from the state. But in the soul and the history of our people it’s all together. It always has been and always will be.”

Russia will make The United States reflect upon what they allowed Rothschild to do to their own country.

So when you see protests against Vladimir now, keep in mind it is probably staged by The Rothschild’s trying to control Russia once again.

Putin Issues Arrest Warrant for Financial Terrorist George Soros!!

Financial terrorist and Hungarian banker, Convicted Felon George Soros…

Russian Intelligence has fingered Soros for using cross-collateralized compounded Swedish and Danish foreign currency derivatives for the purpose of an attack on the Russian stock market.

Soros’ use of these cross-collateralized compounded derivatives utilizing Luxembourg banks violates the terms of the Basil II European Union banking agreement.

The thing that should give pause to the Heads of State Western is like Putin did in freeing Russia from those who wanted to bring the total economic and social collapse and beat up in jail all those who have tried.

Are they influencing Lubawitschern Putin? The fact is that Putin is loyal to Russia and its people, and never allow anyone, even when he is in command in that nation, to sell out and to let his country into the clutches of the NWO. For this he ordered to issue an international arrest warrant against George Soros, who has been caught red-handed as he prepared to send financial aid to what is called opposition in Russia, which recently made the streets in dozens of thousands of people telling lies and misinformation-cheating during the elections.

Now Mr. Soros has little room to continue his dirty games with the speculation that has devastated the entire global financial system, in collaboration Rothschild / Rockefeller and other jackals.

Putin’s speech, which was officially issued by the Russian authorities.

Today it is made public the following statement by the Russian Federation and its Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, has been asked for an arrest warrant against the International Terrorist Finance, the Hungarian currency-Mogul George Soros, the Russian secret services have found that Soros was using foreign currency derivatives with other Danes to start an attack against the Russian Currency Shares in the market.

It should be noted that Soros was using these derivatives with the help of Luxembourg banks, which is forbidden after the contract was made by the EU called Basel II.

Both the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and European Union have issued an Interpol “Red Notice” which is not only against the immediate arrest of Soros, but also against the Sharks on Finance, Bush, Clinton, criminal organization, Marc Rich and his firm, which is located in Switzerland, the Commodities Broker-Richfield, which is why the Russian Premier Putin has recently met the Chef of the Federal Reserve making clear that the Russian Federation will not accept that such use is made of people like Soros and Rich to commit criminal acts of the derivatives market and Finance, which led to social destabilization across the globe.

Putin will be done and start the hunt for these criminals and their accomplices Bankers Rothschild, Rockefeller…

The charitable sector is a multibillion-dollar industry, and business is booming. In No Such Thing as a Free Gift, sociologist Linsey McGoey exposes how "philanthrocapitalism" enables a small group of wealthy individuals to play an outsized role in global policy making, and how government social services are being usurped by foundations with corporate interests. To order your copy of this book, make a donation to Truthout today! (https://org2.salsalabs.com/o/6694/t/17304/shop/item.jsp?storefront_KEY=661&t=&store_item_KEY=3179)
As wealth becomes concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, the billionaire class is increasingly turning to foundations and non-profits to enact the change they would like to see in the world. Amid the rise of philanthrocapitalism (http://www.thenation.com/article/philanthrocapitalism-a-self-love-story/), growing numbers of critics are raising serious questions about whether this outsized influence is doing more harm than good.
In the January issue of the New York Review of Books, veteran journalist Michael Massing noted (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2016/01/14/how-to-cover-the-one-percent/) that, in the past 15 years alone, "the number of foundations with a billion dollars or more in assets has doubled, to more than eighty." The philanthropic sector in the United States is far more significant than in Europe, fueled in part by generous tax write-offs, which the US public subsidizes to the tune of $40 billion a year.
As Massing observes, billionaires are not just handing over their money, they have ideas about how it should be used, and their vision often aligns with their own economic interests. For this reason, the philanthropy industry deserves rigorous scrutiny, not a free pass because it is in the service of good.
Massing's argument followed a study (https://www.globalpolicy.org/images/pdfs/GPFEurope/Philanthropic_Power_online.pdf) released in January by the watchdog organization Global Policy Forum, which found that philanthropic foundations are so powerful they are allowing wealthy individuals to bypass governments and international bodies like the United Nations in pursuit of their own agendas. What's more, this outsized influence is concentrated in the United States, where 19 out of the top 27 largest foundations are based. These 27 foundations together possess $360 billion, write authors Jens Martens and Karolin Seitz.
Such dramatic wealth accumulation has disturbing implications. "What is the impact of framing the problems and defining development solutions by applying the business logic of profit-making institutions to philanthropic activities, for instance by results-based management or the focus on technological quick-win solutions in the sectors of health and agriculture?" the report asks.
These questions are not new, as social movements have long raised the alarm about the global impact of the ever-expanding philanthropy sector. In 2010, the international peasant movement La Via Campesina blasted (http://viacampesina.org/en/index.php/actions-and-events-mainmenu-26/stop-transnational-corporations-mainmenu-76/917-la-via-campesina-denounces-gates-foundation-purchase-of-monsanto-company-shares) the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's acquisition of Monsanto shares as proof that its role in privatizing the global food supply and exporting big agribusiness, from Africa to North America, should be viewed through a commercial rather than humanitarian lens.
"It is really shocking for the peasant organizations and social movements in Haiti to learn about the decision of the [Gates] Foundation to buy Monsanto shares while it is giving money for agricultural projects in Haiti that promote the company's seed and agrochemicals," said Chavannes Jean-Baptiste of the Haitian Peasant Movement of Papaye and Caribbean coordinator of La Via Campesina at the time. "The peasant organizations in Haiti want to denounce this policy which is against the interests of 80 percent of the Haitian population, and is against peasant agriculture -- the base of Haiti's food production."
The Gates Foundation more recently fell under scrutiny from the advocacy organization Global Justice Now, which released a report (http://www.globaljustice.org.uk/sites/default/files/files/resources/gated-development-global-justice-now.pdf) in January raising concerns about the institution's track record on education, food and health care policies.
"The Gates Foundation has rapidly become the most influential actor in the world of global health and agricultural policies, but there's no oversight or accountability in how that influence is managed," said (http://www.accuracy.org/release/gates-foundation-pushing-values-of-corporate-america/) Polly Jones of Global Justice Now. "This concentration of power and influence is even more problematic when you consider that the philanthropic vision of the Gates Foundation seems to be largely based on the values of corporate America. The foundation is relentlessly promoting big business-based initiatives such as industrial agriculture, private health care and education. But these are all potentially exacerbating the problems of poverty and lack of access to basic resources that the foundation is supposed to be alleviating."
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, raised eyebrows (http://www.commondreams.org/news/2015/12/03/zuckerbergs-facebook-giveaway-charity-or-tax-dodging-scheme) in December when they announced they would give away 99 percent of their wealth. As it turned out, this was not a giveaway at all, but a shifting of funds into their own limited liability company (LLC). Just weeks later, Zuckerberg lashed out (http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/toi-edit-page/free-basics-protects-net-neutrality/) at Indian media justice advocates who raised concerns about his company's efforts to undermine net neutrality protections in their country.
Like many others, Massing is calling for greater transparency, not only for foundations but for think tanks, Hollywood, Silicon Valley and universities. Pointing to the website Inside Philanthropy, whose stated purpose is to "pull back the curtain on one of the most powerful and dynamic forces shaping society," Massing argues that far greater and better-resourced scrutiny is needed. "There remains the question of how to pay for all this," writes Massing, posing: "Is there perhaps a consortium of donors out there willing to fund an operation that would part the curtains on its own world?"
But some argue that we already have all the information we need to be concerned. In December, Vandana Shiva, an ecofeminist and activist, wrote (http://www.commondreams.org/views/2015/12/29/free-basics-will-take-away-more-our-right-internet) in response to Zuckerberg's move in India that a "collective corporate assault is underway globally. Having lined up all their ducks, veterans of corporate America such as Bill Gates are being joined by the next wave of philanthro-corporate Imperialists, including Mark Zuckerberg."
"It is an enclosure of the commons," she continued, "which are 'commons' because they guarantee access to the commoner, whether it be seed, water, information or internet."

Top 10 Reasons George Soros Is Dangerous

http://humanevents.com/wp-content/uploads/users/2_smallpersonimage_21.pngHuman Events (http://humanevents.com/author/human-events-2/) | Saturday Apr 2, 2011 3:01 AM

http://www.bloggernews.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/g_soros.jpgHuman Events (http://www.humanevents.com/author/Human+Events)’ readers, in an online poll, recently voted (http://www.humanevents.com/2011/03/28/george-soros-demagoat/) billionaire financier George Soros “the single most destructive leftist demagogue in the country.” Here are the Top 10 Reasons George Soros (http://www.humanevents.com/2011/04/02/top-10-reasons-george-soros-is-dangerous/) Is Dangerous:
1. Gives billions to left-wing causes: Soros started the Open Society Institute in 1993 as a way to spread his wealth to progressive causes. Using Open Society as a conduit, Soros has given more than $7 billion to a who’s who of left-wing groups. This partial list of recipients of Soros’ money says it all: ACORN, Apollo Alliance, National Council of La Raza (http://www.humanevents.com/2006/04/07/emexclusive-emthe-truth-about-la-raza/), Tides Foundation, Huffington Post, Southern Poverty Law Center (http://www.humanevents.com/2011/07/28/isnt-the-southern-poverty-law-center-the-real-hate-group-2/), Soujourners, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood, and the National Organization for Women.

2. Influence on U.S. elections: Soros once said that removing President George W. Bush from office in 2004 was the “central focus of my life.” He put his money where his mouth is, giving $23.58 million to various 527 groups dedicated to defeating Bush. His early financial support helped jump-start Barack Obama’s political career. Soros hosted a 2004 fund-raiser for Obama when he was running for the Illinois Senate and gave the maximum-allowed contribution within hours of Obama’s announcement that he was running for President.
3. Wants to curtail American sovereignty: Soros would like nothing better than for America to become subservient to international bodies. He wants more power for groups such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, even while saying the U.S. role in the IMF should be “downsized.” In 1998, he wrote: “Insofar as there are collective interests that transcend state boundaries, the sovereignty of states must be subordinated to international law and international institutions.”
4. Media Matters (http://humanevents.com/2011/04/02/top-10-reasons-george-soros-is-dangerous/www.redstate.com/erick/2012/02/13/media-matters/): Soros is a financial backer of Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog group that hyperventilates over any conservative view that makes it into the mainstream media. Now its founder, David Brock, has openly declared war on Fox News, telling Politico that the group was mounting “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” against the cable news channel, and would try to disrupt the commercial interests of owner Rupert Murdoch—an odd mission for a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt educational foundation that is barred from participating in partisan political activity.
5. MoveOn.org: Soros has been a major funder of MoveOn.org, a progressive advocacy group and political action committee that raises millions for liberal candidates. This is the group that had on its website an ad comparing President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler and ran the infamous “General Betray Us” ad in the New York Times, disparaging the integrity of Gen. David Petraeus.
6. Center for American Progress (http://www.redstate.com/jeff_emanuel/2011/08/26/exacerbating-the-perception-problem-center-for-american-progress-chronicles-the-american-rights-decade-of-baseless-aggression-against-islam/): Headed by John Podesta, White House chief of staff under President Clinton, the Center for American Progress has been instrumental in providing progressive talking points and policy positions for the Obama administration. There has also been a revolving door between the White House and the Soros-funded think tank, with Obama staffing his administration with many CAP officials.
7. Environmental extremism: Former Obama green jobs czar Van Jones and his leftist environmental ideas have been funded by Soros’ money at these groups: the Ella Baker Center, Green For All, the Center for American Progress, and the Apollo Alliance, which was instrumental in getting $110 billion in green initiatives included in Obama’s stimulus package. Soros also funds the Climate Policy Initiative to address global warming and gave Friends of the Earth money to “integrate a climate equity perspective in the presidential transition.”
8. America Coming Together: Soros gave nearly $20 million to this 527 group with the express purpose of defeating President Bush. A massive get-out-the-vote effort, ACT’s door-to-door canvassing teams included numerous felons, its voter registration drives were riddled with fraud, and it handed out incendiary fliers and made misleading taped phone calls to voters. ACT was fined $775,000 by the Federal Election Commission for violations of various federal campaign finance laws.
9. Currency manipulation: A large part of Soros’ multibillion-dollar fortune has come from manipulating currencies. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad accused him of bringing down the nation’s currency through his trading activities, and in Thailand he was called an “economic war criminal.” Known as “The Man who Broke the Bank of England,” Soros initiated a British financial crisis by dumping 10 billion sterling, forcing the devaluation of the currency and gaining a billion-dollar profit.
10. Delusions: Soros has repeatedly said that he sees himself as a messianic figure. Who but a megalomaniac would make these comments? “I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance—to put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god” or “I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood, which I felt I had to control, otherwise I might end up in the loony bin.” If only the loony bin were an option. Tax Records Show George Soros Funded the Ferguson Riots With 33 Million

Steven H Ahle (http://dailyheadlines.net/author/sahle/) — March 13, 2016 (http://dailyheadlines.net/2016/03/tax-records-show-george-soros-funded-the-ferguson-riots-with-33-million/)

You have to wonder how much he is spending this riot season.
Tax records of the Soros funded group, Open Society, shows that Soros gave 33 million dollars in funding that kept the Ferguson riots going among other civil disobedience the group has funded. Soros has used Open Society much as he has MoveOn.org to try to manipulate the discussions in order to push forward his plans for a socialist United States.
Kenneth Zimmerman, director of the Soros owned Open Society explains why they funded the Ferguson riots:
Watch: Jeb Bush releasing 33 years of tax records in show of transparency

“Our DNA includes a belief that having people participate in government is indispensable to living in a more just, inclusive, democratic society. Helping groups combine policy, research [and] data collection with community organizing feels very much the way our society becomes more accountable.”
Zimmerman says that the money was given with no strings attached. Right. If you believe that I’ll tell you about the time in 1945 when I broke into a bunker and killed a man with a funny little mustache and made it look like a suicide or how I struck oil one day while shooting at a rabbit.
“The incidents, whether in Staten Island, Cleveland or Ferguson, were spontaneous protests — we don’t have the ability to control or dictate what others say or choose to say. But these circumstances focused people’s attention — and it became increasingly evident to the social justice groups involved that what a particular incident like Ferguson represents is a lack of accountability and a lack of democratic participation.”
Soros then used his other groups to fund scholarly works blaming conservatives for the actions as well as decimating that same information through his bought and paid for media campaigns of MoveOn.org and Think Progress. He also feeds that information to like minded news organizations like PMSDNC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and the New York Times.
During the Ferguson riots, Soros hired buses to take activists from his various organizations into Ferguson to try to keep and expand the ongoing riots. Soros funded groups making the trip include but not limited to Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference in Chicago; from the Drug Policy Alliance, Make the Road New York and Equal Justice USA from New York; from Sojourners, the Advancement Project and Center for Community Change in Washington; and networks from the Gamaliel Foundation.
I wonder when the IRS will investigate these organizations that fund riots with tax exempt money. Just kidding.

Working America, a group funded by the AFL-CIO and by billionaire George Soros, is now using Craigslist as a vehicle to advertise for organizers in Cleveland.
It’s important to note that George Soros is no fan of GOP candidate Donald Trump. Sorros recently told Bloomberg news, “Trump is doing the work of ISIS.” Furthermore, Soros is pouring millions into various PACs supporting Hillary Clinton.

Soros has a history of funding groups that encourage mob violence in order to gain attention.
In the video below, Soros comments on Trump and ISIS.

The liberal New York financier George Soros, whose effort to unseat President George W. Bush in 2004 shattered political spending records, is returning to big-ticket giving after an 11-year hiatus.
Soros has spent or committed more than $13 million to support Hillary Clinton and other Democrats this election cycle, already more than his total disclosed spending in the last two presidential elections combined.
Soros has expressed alarm (http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/dec/28/terrorists-demagogues-scared-charlie-hebdo) over the past few months at the candidacies of Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. In a statement last week about a new group he’s funding to increase voting by Latinos and immigrants in the election, he again mentioned the two candidates by name.
“The intense anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric that has been fueled by the Republican primary is deeply offensive,” Soros said in the statement. “There should be consequences for the outrageous statements and proposals that we’ve regularly heard from candidates Trump and Cruz.”

Rivals, Activists Very Angry that Donald Trump Does Phone Interviews on TV

NEW YORK (AP) — In television news, a telephone interview is typically frowned upon. Donald Trump’s fondness for them is changing habits and causing consternation in newsrooms, while challenging political traditions.

Two organizations are circulating petitions to encourage Sunday morning political shows to hang up on Trump. Some prominent holdouts, like Fox’s Chris Wallace, refuse to do on-air phoners. Others argue that a phone interview is better than no interview at all.

Except in news emergencies, producers usually avoid phoners because television is a visual medium – a face-to-face discussion between a newsmaker and questioner is preferable to a picture of an anchor listening to a disembodied voice.

It’s easy to see why Trump likes them. There’s no travel or TV makeup involved; if he wishes to, Trump can talk to Matt Lauer without changing out of his pajamas. They often put an interviewer at a disadvantage, since it’s harder to interrupt or ask follow-up questions, and impossible to tell if a subject is being coached.

Face-to-face interviews let viewers see a candidate physically react to a tough question and think on his feet, said Chris Licht, executive producer of “CBS This Morning.” Sometimes that’s as important as what is being said.

Trump tends to take over phone interviews and can get his message out with little challenge, Wallace said.

“The Sunday show, in the broadcast landscape, I feel is a gold standard for probing interviews,” said Wallace, host of “Fox News Sunday.” ”The idea that you would do a phone interview, not face-to-face or not by satellite, with a presidential candidate – I’d never seen it before, and I was quite frankly shocked that my competitors were doing it.”

Since Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, Wallace has conducted three in-person interviews with him on “Fox News Sunday,” and four via satellite.
Chuck Todd, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” has done phoners with Trump but now said he’s decided to stick to in-person interviews on his Sunday show. He’s no absolutist, though.

“It’s a much better viewer experience when it’s in person,” Todd said. “Satellite and phoners are a little harder, there’s no doubt about it. But at the end of the day, you’ll take something over nothing.”

Morning news shows do phoners most frequently. At the outset of the campaign, Trump was ratings catnip. The ratings impact of a Trump interview has since settled down, but it’s still hard to turn him down. He’s the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination. He’s news.

There appear to be no network policies; different shows on the same network have different philosophies. Licht has turned Trump down for phoners on CBS but concedes there may be exceptions for breaking news. “CBS This Morning,” in fact, aired Trump commenting by phone following Tuesday’s attack in Belgium.

Since the campaign began, Trump has appeared for 29 phone interviews on the five Sunday political panel shows, according to the liberal watchdog Media Matters for America. Through last Sunday, ABC’s “This Week” has done it 10 times, CBS’ “Face the Nation” seven and six times each on “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “State of the Union.”

On Sunday, Trump phoned in an 11th time to “This Week,” calling from Florida. The program repeatedly flashed a stock Trump photo while the candidate demanded an overhaul of NATO, blamed rival Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)for the bitter feud targeting each other’s wife and complained about the Republican Party’s delegate selection process. None of the news shows have done phoners with Cruz, John Kasich, Hillary Clinton or Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), said Media Matters, which is urging that the practice be discontinued. Cruz and Clinton declined ABC’s invitation to speak by phone or in person for the network’s most recent Sunday program. The activist group MomsRising said the disparity “sends the message that some candidates can play by different rules, without consequences, and that’s just un-American.” A study by mediaQuant and The New York Times estimated that Trump has received the equivalent of $1.9 billion in free advertising given the media attention paid to his campaign.

A Trump spokeswoman did not immediately return a request for comment.

What’s unclear is whether other candidates were denied opportunities given to Trump.

CNN chief executive Jeff Zucker said Trump opponents frequently turn down interview requests. During an appearance on CNN last week, former GOP candidate Carly Fiorina complained about media attention paid to Trump, leading Anderson Cooper to shoot back: “Donald Trump returned phone calls and was willing to do interviews, which was something your campaign, frankly, was unwilling to do.”

Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier tweeted last week that she saw Trump being interviewed via phone on “Fox & Friends” a day after Cruz was told that he couldn’t do a phone interview with the show.

Fox said that since then, “Fox & Friends” has offered to conduct a phone interview with Cruz five times and has been turned down each time. Cruz did appear in the studio Wednesday. Frazier did not return requests for comment.

NBC’s Todd believes that complaints about phoners are a surrogate for people who want to blame the media for Trump’s success.

“You’re shooting the messenger while you’re ignoring what he is tapping into,” he said. “It becomes a little silly when you look at the bigger picture here. The media is getting criticized for interviewing Donald Trump. If we weren’t questioning him, we’d be criticized for not questioning him.”

For years, cautious candidates have tended to be stingy with press access. Trump is the complete opposite. In a fast-moving information age, he may be changing the expectations for how often a candidate submits to interviews.

Todd doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence that he’s had more access to Clinton during the past six weeks than he had during the six years she was in the Obama administration. Both Clinton and Cruz appeared in phone interviews following the Belgium attacks.

“Trump’s opponents fall into two camps: Those who complain and continue to get crushed by the media wave, or those who grab a surfboard and try to ride it,” said Mark McKinnon, veteran Republican political operative and co-host of Showtime’s political road show, “The Circus.”
