family member has someone using their id to open credit card accts/etc
so they put me on the task to protect them
i call all three credit report companies - none of them offer a live person to talk to
what they offer is only a 6 month alert on credit report (issuer is supposed to call before granting credit)
family member has no want/need to borrow money anytime in the near future - so they want ALL credit crap shut down
the three credit companies don't offer that (as far as i can tell) - but they do offer a 7 year freeze IF you are a victim and go to police and get paperwork. you then have to submit that paperwork, pus credit company paperwork in writing to be considered for the freeze. the fckers WANT fraud is what i conclude..
my question to the board - is there any other options i should explore? other advice?
thanks for the help!

Credit Karma is a free service. You can start there:
https://www.creditkarma.com/
You should find a good paid service too, but this one is free and you can sign up.

Report fraudulent activity, use Credit Karma or a credit monitoring service. When I got my new car, it notified me as soon as I had a hard credit query via email. Also notify the new lines of credit that the line of credit was opened fraudulently by someone using "your identity". Shut it down immediately. Consult with a credit company to put locks in place to stop new lines of credit from being opened without notifying you the real individual first for approval.

Credit can be frozen and unlocked at any time. Depending on state, age (65)' and if a victim of identity theft it may be free. Google credit freeze and Clark Howard for further info. If they have no need to borrow money in the future, freeze it. Of course fees apply when you do it unless they don't as listed above.

what's your ss number, mother maiden name, addresses, phone number, employer?
it PISSES ME OFF that one can't just call the f-ing credit companies and say NO F+ING CREDIT in my name. i'll call you back if i want to reverse it.
either:
1. they want fraud
2. it has something to do with nyc/dc owning us....and borrowing against us.....or selling the ability to borrow against us
why else can't one say no credit allowed to be attached to my 'person'
note that you have to be a victim and do stupid police paperwork to get a temporary 7 year freeze? that is the best offer out there. what if not a victim? stuck with the 6 month alert bullshit? wtf good is that?
and 7 years -- isn't that also a time frame used for bankruptcy stuff? coincidence?
