I find this somewhat humorous. It seems even after being set free and declared 'white' this lady couldn't help being placed on the roles as the first welfare case in Iowa. And she was a good cook too!!!

The honor would seem to be dubious.

It seems you haven't yet shared the whole of the story with us. Who declared that she was a good cook?

Evidently the expired governor of Missouri.

Evidently the expired governor of Missouri.

I think that is a long bow to draw from the material presented. Maybe he enjoyed crap food. I can't discern the answer either way.

From the same book on the history of Clayton County

Understand that Iowa was to have entered the union as a free state (no slavery). The timeframe for this was when Iowa was a territory of the federal government when Iowa territory had control.

No clue as to the color of this lady. Evidently to be bought and sold all you had to be was INSANE!!!
