Faster Food: Wendy’s Installing Self-Service Ordering Kiosks in 6,000-Plus RestaurantsSource: IBD (http://www.investors.com/politics/policy/wendys-serves-up-kiosks-as-wages-rise-hits-fast-food-group/)https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/66/Wendy's_logo_2012.svg/1229px-Wendy's_logo_2012.svg.png
Wendy’s (WEN) said that self-service ordering kiosks will be made available across its 6,000-plus restaurants in the second half of the year as minimum wage hikes and a tight labor market push up wages.
It will be up to franchisees whether to deploy the labor-saving technology, but Wendy’s President Todd Penegor did note that some franchise locations have been raising prices to offset wage hikes.
McDonald’s (MCD) has been testing self-service kiosks. But Wendy’s, which has been vocal about embracing labor-saving technology, is launching the biggest potential expansion.

is 50cents more on the cost of an order really that much of a business killer that they have to do these SS kiosk things? Doesn't seem to make sense to me.

The kiosks won't complain about wages, don't need insurance, won't unionize, will work 24/7 without breaks, etc. I'm sure I could think of more reasons, but to a fast food store owner, sounds like a no brainer to me.

(versatility and features) because through hole only boards were limited and mostly history except for some parts.. (more the board could do the bigger the board needed to be using one sided thru hole technology ckt boards) Smt allowed the boards to become smaller, with more bang per sq inch, using both sides of the boards!
Now for your list, you usually would only have one technician earning a nice wage maintaining these machines and his skills would be spread over several stores or areas, for the more technical repairs, other more minor repairs could probably be done by ? say the manager or so of that particular store. (replacing high wear parts)
?
My thoughts are a biz could go too far when it comes to reducing costs using automation, as other threads here have stated, what would flesh and blood people do for jobs on the lower end/entry level jobs? A job is a job that can help individuals where a robot/automation does not!

yes. so the wage hike was just a cover to get rid of workers. pre-planned.
these businesses will stop operating as a going concern (competitive business) and their model will be 100% welfare funded. It will have to be because workers will disappear and only welfare recipients will be left.
Then it just becomes a matter of how much % of the welfare dollar the government mandates your operation will receive.
That raises another problem, because welfare money has even less value than fiat. At least fiat has slave labour attached. Welfare money has zero value. So why would you chase the welfare dollar? Seems like a certain zero sum game to me.
Although if the welfare recipients are ever told to work (slave labour style) for their welfare, that would be sweet justice. We (regular people) would all be long gone of course but sweet justice none the less.

Sent from my Nexus 7Hell yeah, I loves me some whataburger. They don't have them here in Colorado, but whenever I find myself traveling to Texas for work I usually try to stop by and grab one. Their spicy ketchup is awesome.

Yep!
When you wrap your hands around one, you know you have something and a meal!
Ketchup is not punk ether, but a burger and Fry's will do the trick.
Big burger, unlike those micro sized national ones!
Can you get ibc root beer?
Nothing better!
Unless you have sassafras trees like we do and know how to diy ! Keeping in mind the cautions!

People will still make the food. But robots will take the order. Actually, patrons may get more spit in their food because the workers making the food, will see their coworkers laid off to robots, and will have low morale. 16 year old demoralized kids spit in the food.
I think it's a shame, but a sign of the times. The people working at these places are just kids, for the most part. It's likely their first job. This is where they should be learning responsibility, duties, customer service, work ethic, etc. Instead, they are taught they are easily replaceable by technology.
I stopped into a McD's last Oct on a road trip, for just a cup of coffee. The place was teched out like something out of the Jetsons. There was an ATM looking machine where you could place your order without going to the counter, and talking to a person. I saw this coming. Like stated, from a business perspective, it's a no brainer.

You would be maybe surprised at how "smart" automated systems are today! But putting a burger together right maybe a different color Platypus's l
But maybe not, seeing how advanced sensors and computers are getting along with servo control!
Now common laptops have more computer horsepower than not so long ago supercomputers.
Get the hardware right all it takes is good programming!
Sadly I think a truth!
