'You mean Pocahontas?' Trump once more mocks Warren's Native American heritage
BY LINDSEY LEAKE, SINCLAIR BROADCAST GROUP MONDAY, MAY 16TH 2016
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — Just days after his latest Twitter brawl with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, in which he criticized her "phony Native American heritage," Donald Trump referred to the Massachusetts Democrat as "Pocahontas."
In a Saturday New York Times article by op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd, the pair's ongoing social media slugfest came up.
Dowd wrote: "When I asked if he had been chided by any Republicans for his Twitter feud with Elizabeth Warren, he replied, 'You mean Pocahontas?' So much for reining it in."
Ever since Trump became the presumptive Republican presidential nominee after his rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropped out of the race earlier this month, Warren has made her feelings about the controversial billionaire known on Twitter. She promised: "I'm going to fight my heart out to make sure @realDonaldTrump's toxic stew of hatred & insecurity never reaches the White House."

In responding to Warren's tweets during the past two weeks, Trump has repeatedly accused the senator of lying about her Native American ancestry.
On May 6 he tweeted, "Goofy Elizabeth Warren and her phony Native American heritage are on a Twitter rant. She is too easy! I'm driving her nuts. Goofy Elizabeth Warren is weak and ineffective. Does nothing. All talk, no action -- maybe her Native American name?"

Earlier in the day Trump had tweeted, "Goofy Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton's flunky, has a career that is totally based on a lie. She is not Native American. Let's properly check goofy Elizabeth Warren's records to see if she is Native American. I say she's a fraud!"

On May 11 he added, "Goofy Elizabeth Warren didn't have the guts to run for POTUS. Her phony Native American heritage stops that and VP cold."

Warren, who in 2012 faced similar criticism about her heritage from her Republican rival in the Massachusetts Senate race, then-Sen. Scott Brown, appeared unfazed by Trump's attacks, calling them "weak."
She tweeted: "If you think recycling Scott Brown's hate-filled attacks on my family is going to shut me up, @realDonaldTrump, think again buddy. Weak. The @GOP's hate-filled lies didn't scare me before, @realDonaldTrump. And they don't scare me now."

Warren also told Trump his "racism, sexism & xenophobia" didn't drive her nuts, but rather made her sick.

No, @realDonaldTrump - your racism, sexism & xenophobia doesn't drive me nuts. It makes me sick. And I'm not alone.

Trump's latest remarks come amid speculation that Warren is among former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's picks for vice president.
