Prominent Indianapolis blogger Gary Welsh has died, according to Indianapolis police, who say they are investigating the death as a "tragic suicide."

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's incident report says officers were dispatched to the Lockerbie Glove Factory Lofts, 430 N. Park Ave., before 8 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a person found shot in the stairwell of the building. The witnesses who called 911 reported that a gun was next to the body.

IMPD Capt. Richard Riddle said he expects an autopsy will be conducted Monday. He said the Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death.

Indianapolis police are investigating the death of a prominent political commentator as a suicide, IMPD captain Richard Riddle confirmed Sunday.

Gary Welsh's last post in his Advance Indiana blog on Friday now seems ominous. "If I'm not around to see the vote results," Welsh wrote, "my prediction is that Trump wins Indiana with just shy of 50% of the vote."

Police were called to an apartment building in the 400 block of North Park Ave. shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday on a report of a person shot. "Police dispatch stated that the caller observed what they believed to be a person shot in the stairwell of the building with the gun still laying on the scene," the police report said. "Person shot was confirmed and victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics."
