View Full Version : DiCaprio's 8,000 mile day trip on a private jet...to collect green award

Actor facing criticism after flying from Cannes to New York and back again

On his way to collect an award for environmental campaigning, you’d imagine that Leonardo DiCaprio (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/leonardo_dicaprio/index.html) would be keen to burnish his green credentials.

However, as an A-list actor, he also has a busy schedule – so the star shunned more eco-friendly methods of transport to jump on to a private jet from Cannes to New York.

Having received his green award, the actor then flew straight back to France the following day – a round trip of 8,000 air miles.

I once put on 55k miles in one day on a motorcycle. A gear slipped in the odometer and it clocked 100 miles for every .1 miles traveled. Cost me $250 to have the odometer repaired but I can look back and say I traveled quite a distance that day. Guiness expressed no interest in my feat since I could not independently verify it.

Sacrifices are for little people.
DiCaprio is privileged class.
It is his mission to show underlings how to behave.
It is a difficult, time consuming job.
Honor his effort by doing as he says and not as he does.

Is it like a speed record where you have to do it one way and then again in the other direction? Glad to hear there are still people out there with odometer massaging skills. These days you need to be a bit of a hacker.

The profession of Actor is that of a hypocrite. I would suggest he's very good at it.

I dont think I can find him a talented actor anymore after this one

------------------------------

Leonardo DiCaprio warned about global warming in his Oscars speech
Later this month he is holding a gala dinner for his foundation in St Tropez
Robert DeNiro and Arnold Schwarzenegger are among those he's invited
Each guest flying 12,000 miles from LA will release seven tons of CO2

Leonardo DiCaprio will host a lavish fundraiser later this month for his A-list celebrity friends and wealthy philanthropists, but instead of hosting it in Los Angeles where most of the invited guests are from he will fly them half way around the world to the lavish resort of St. Tropez in the South of France at a huge cost to the environment.

Green campaigners have been quick to criticise the move as not only is he a UN Ambassador on Climate change but made an impassioned plea at the Oscar ceremonies for everyone to do their bit to stop Global Warming.

Sure she can, you just don't understand the metaphysical importance of the connection between being a talented actor and a hypocritical environmentalist. By taking that private jet his acting accomplishments were null and void! You refuse to understand esoterism and thus you will not get an explanation.

It's funny because:

Hypocrisy is the contrivance of a false appearance of virtue or goodness, while concealing real character or inclinations, esp. with respect to religious and moral beliefs; hence in general sense, dissimulation, pretense, sham. It is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another. In moral psychology, it is the failure to follow one’s own expressed moral rules and principles.[1]

Etymology
The word hypocrisy comes from the Greek ὑυπόκρισις (hypokrisis), which means "jealous", "play-acting", "acting out", "coward" or "dissembling".[2] The word hypocrite is from the Greek word ὑποκριτής (hypokritēs), the agentive noun associated with υποκρίνομαι (hypokrinomai κρίση, "judgment" »κριτική (kritiki), "critics") presumably because the performance of a dramatic text by an actor was to involve a degree of interpretation, or assessment.

Alternatively, the word is an amalgam of the Greek prefix hypo-, meaning "under", and the verb krinein, meaning "to sift or decide". Thus the original meaning implied a deficiency in the ability to sift or decide. This deficiency, as it pertains to one's own beliefs and feelings, informs the word's contemporary meaning.[3]

Whereas hypokrisis applied to any sort of public performance (including the art of rhetoric), hypokrites was a technical term for a stage actor and was not considered an appropriate role for a public figure. In Athens in the 4th century BC, for example, the great orator Demosthenes ridiculed his rival Aeschines, who had been a successful actor before taking up politics, as a hypocrites whose skill at impersonating characters on stage made him an untrustworthy politician. This negative view of the hypokrites, perhaps combined with the Roman disdain for actors, later shaded into the originally neutral hypokrisis. It is this later sense of hypokrisis as "play-acting", i.e., the assumption of a counterfeit persona, that gives the modern word hypocrisy its negative connotation.

They are just being "actors". Who can blame them.

ALL is Mind, sorry you do not get this metaphysical aspect.

the Mind defines the attraction/appeal level. DiCaprio wasn't very political until recently, 5y or so ago. But he surely sounds like going down a road that makes him less and less interesting since then.

He changes, I change the way I regard him. I will surely not hurry anymore to watch him act in any flick

yet you call me irrational and insane. And you want a reasonable discussion with me? Sorry, my mind can't compromise with any darwinian ideals

What does that have to do with Leonardi's acting capability and faux environmentalism? This is the very definition of insanity, school book example. There really is no connection between A and B, nor B and C, or A and C, yet you argue passionately like there would be. You are a nutcase!

Leonardo DiCaprio Urged to Step Down From UN Climate Change Role

A rainforest charity calls on the star to either denounce his connection to individuals involved in a Malaysian corruption scandal and return laundered money he allegedly received or give up his role.

In perhaps the biggest attack on Leonardo DiCaprio's environmental credibility, a rainforest charity on Friday called on the actor to give up his title as UN Messenger of Peace with a special focus on climate change.

At a press conference in London, the Bruno Manser Funds offered DiCaprio an ultimatum: either he renounce his connections to the "politically exposed persons" at the center of the multi-billion dollar 1MDB Malaysian corruption scandal now being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department and return corrupt money he allegedly received or resign from the position he was given by UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon in 2014.

"If DiCaprio is unwilling to come clean, we ask him to step down as UN Messenger for Peace for climate change, because he simply lacks the credibility for such an important role," said Lukas Straumann, director of the Switzerland-based charity, which has a particular focus on deforestation in Malaysia.
DiCaprio is alleged to have received millions of dollars diverted from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund for his role as star and producer of The Wolf of Wall Street, alleged by the DOJ to have been funded by stolen Malaysian money and produced by Red Granite, co-founded by Riza Aziz, the stepson of the Malaysian prime minister and a major figure in a DOJ filing. He is also alleged to have received laundered 1MDB money for his charity, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, from his former close associate Jho Low, the controversial Malaysian businessman at the heart of the scandal.

Dismal ratings for DiCaprio’s Global Warming Epic ‘Before the Flood’ – beaten by ‘Bubble Guppies’
3 November 2016 GMT

The weekend ratings are out, and they aren’t good news for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Global Warming Epic ‘Before the Flood‘, which we reviewed yesterday on WUWT. Showbuzz Daily has listed the top 150 TV and Cable programs for the weekend, and in ‘the hottest year ever’, discussing the ‘most important topic ever’, Before the Flood came in at #61 for the weekend.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to tune in and have a jet-setting actor-millionaire, a government handout beneficiary, a Pope, the globe-trotting Secretary of State, the lame-duck president, the ‘Horndog-in-Chief” and the leader of the U.N. come on for 96 minutes and berate you for doing things like driving your car, eating hamburgers, and just not caring enough about the planet like they do while looking down on us from their private planes?’
