A suspected thief was tackled by a security guard as he tried to escape at a rare coin show in Long Beach, California on Friday, June 10, 2016. An alleged accomplice with a backpack containing more than $300,000 of rare coins, was also taken into custody. Both suspects were turned over to Long Beach police on suspicion of burglary, robbery and possession of stolen property.

“They reportedly were trying to sell coins at the Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo (www.LongBeachExpo.com) in the Long Beach Convention Center. One dealer they approached thought the coins he was offered had been stolen earlier in a robbery in the San Bernardino, California area,” said Patrick Coward, a guard for Positive Protection, Inc. of Temecula, California, a company that provides security services for coin and jewelry dealers.

When the suspects tried to leave, the dealer shouted out to stop them. I was nearby and when one suspect started to run I chased him and tackled him at the door. Additional security personnel from the show helped subdue him. The second suspect was stopped without a problem at the door as he tried leave. His backpack was filled with more than 100 ancient coins and other gold and silver coins worth more than $300,000,” explained Coward, a former New York City homicide detective.

The brief chase and the tackle were captured on surveillance video at the booth of Stack’s Bowers Galleries of Santa Ana, California and New York City.

“With the help of a knowledgeable dealer and the fast action of trained security professionals, two suspected thieves have been caught and valuable, stolen rare coins have been recovered,” said Robert Brueggeman, President of Positive Protection. “We always want a safe, enjoyable environment for dealers and the public at these collectible shows, but we also must always be on alert.”

another interesting gold story

Libyan central bank struggles to open Gaddafi golden coins vault, hires safecrackers

As if the crash in the price of oil was not enough for energy-rich Libya, the country is also having to deal with two rival governments opposed to one another, as well as the threat posed by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), which has made gains in coastal areas.

Oil output is currently less than a quarter of the 1.6 million barrels per day, which were being produced in Libya under former leader Muammar Gaddafi.

These financial problems have led to a catastrophic shortage of cash in Libya, so the $184 million locked in the central bank vault in Beyda would come in more than handy. However, the local central bank governor doesn’t have the necessary five-digit code to unlock the vault, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The rival government in Tripoli has the code but will not hand it over, fearing the cash could end up funding militias.

Even if the authorities do manage to get to the coins, they will face another significant problem as they all bear Gaddafi’s face.

“I can’t sell them as they are,” Ali El Hibri, the central bank governor in eastern Libya told the Wall Street Journal. “I don’t want to cause any controversy in the street by advertising the face of Gaddafi.”

El Hibri has even contemplated melting down the gold and silver coins in order to provide the much-needed funds. However, the governor still has the task of trying to crack open the safe.

El Hibri has a plan for this as well and has enlisted the help of a pair of safecrackers, who believe they are capable of forcing open the almost 50-year-old safe.

Khaled, one member of the duo, says the main task will be to get beyond the protective wall, which will need to be done by drilling a 50 centimeter by 50 centimeter hole, which will allow them to get through to the doors with the five-digit code.

This is where Khaled’s partner will come in, as the locksmith will attempt to break the code using “special techniques,” in a plan which would not look out of place in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Just three months ago, US Secretary of State John Kerry summed up just what a challenge Tripoli faces, saying that Libya risks becoming “a failed state” if the UN-brokered unity government flops.

“We have been working really hard for the last months, particularly, to bring together the government in Tripoli,” Kerry told the House Appropriations Committee on Foreign Operations. “We have a prime minister designate, we have a government now; we have a couple of outliers that are resisting that effort. If they cannot get themselves together, yes it will be a failed state.”

Since the 2011 ouster and killing of its long-term leader, Gaddafi, Libya has essentially been “torn apart” by two factions based at opposite ends of the country and they are simultaneously claiming power.

After an election in 2014, an Islamist-dominated body settled in Tripoli in the west, while an internationally recognized legislature is based in the eastern city of Tobruk.

You guys who "stack" physical need to realize just how dangerous it is. Thugs will pull out your kid's fingernails until you give them the combo to your safe. You are not the only one who knows you are holding physical.

AUSTIN {AP} Three thieves who stole a suitcase full of gold coins from an Austin storage unit testified Monday they spent lavishly on strip clubs, automobiles, clothes and guns. Investigators believe the coins belonged to missing atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair and her family, who disappeared in 1995 shortly after converting a trust fund into $600,000 worth of gold.

Gary Karr, a 52-year ex-con with a history of violence is charged with kidnapping and extortion. He faces life in prison if convicted. Although prosecutors have named two other suspects in the alleged crime, Karr is the only one charged. After stealing the coins on Oct. 3, 1995, Joe Cortez Jr., Jaime Valdez and Joe Cardenas, all of San Antonio, said they split their find into three piles and started selling it off to coin dealers in their hometown.

They never sold amounts greater than $10,000 which would have required notification of the Internal Revenue Service. "I never saw the coins again," said Valdez, who estimated he spent about $140,000 in six months. "I just saw the money." With cash in hand, the spending spree began. Cortez bought guns, cars and took a group of friends to Las Vegas.

Valdez bought four cars, three of which he wrecked, and went on wild spending sprees in San Antonio strip clubs, often dropping as much as $1,500 in a night, he said. He estimated spending up to $140,000 in six months.

Cardenas also hit the strip club circuit and bought cars, clothes and jewelry. All of the money was gone in two years, the men said. Federal investigators say the coins are central to their case against Gary Karr, the only suspect charged in the disappearance of O'Hair, her son Jon Garth Murray and granddaughter Robin Murray O'Hair. Authorities believe the O'Hairs were killed and dismembered, but their bodies were never found. Investigators say Karr and two other suspects, David Roland Waters and Danny Fry, carried out the alleged plot.

Earlier in the trial, Waters' ex-girlfriend testified he rented a storage space to keep a suitcase of gold coins but that the case was later stolen. The robbery spoiled the payoff of the alleged kidnapping and murder scheme. The three coin thieves have been granted immunity from prosecution for the random burglary in exchange for their testimony, a point noted by defense attorney Tom Mills. However, Cortez is serving time for a 1999 murder conviction. The three burglars drove to the Austin storage facility from San Antonio looking to steal sporting goods or furniture. "We just happened to drive by that unit and stopped there," Cortez said.

The only answer is to keep your dam mouth shut, give no clues that you hold wealth on or near you !

Keep your shit to yourself, = no problems..

Blab or boast = what may happen is all on your own head ..

In more than one way, the saying "You reap what you sow" is a ageless truth even today on all levels.

Looking at the op, any crook when caught , should be punished within the same degree or so of what they did.

Old biblical eye for and eye thingy..
