Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who says he’s meeting with the National Rifle Association to talk about banning people on the government’s no-fly list from buying guns, is on the “right road” on the issue.

“I want to applaud Mr. Trump. I think he’s [going] to the middle on something that’s very important,” Mr. Graham said on “Fox and Friends.”
The South Carolina Republican said he didn’t want the audience to believe he thinks ongoing terror issues are tied to gun control, citing intelligence failures and the shortcomings of President Obama.

“However, if you’re on a no-fly list — if the government has determined it’s too dangerous for you to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun but have a process to challenge that determination in court,” Mr. Graham said.

“So that’s where Mr. Trump is going,” he said. “Mr. Trump is on the right road to trying to find the middle ground. If you’re on a no-fly list, if you’ve been selected for extra screening because of your behavior, you present a danger or a threat, then I don’t think you should be able to buy a gun, but you should have a way to challenge the government’s

Careful which websites you link posts to after or in runup to the coming election,

if you aren't already on "The List" ?

Trump has said during the presidential campaign that he backs a gun-buying ban for anyone on a federal watch list.

Back in November, Trump told ABC News in an interview about allowing firearm purchases: "If somebody is on a watch list and an enemy of state and we know it's an enemy of state, I would keep them away, absolutely."

And in another interview with CBS' "Face the Nation" following the San Bernardino shooting, Trump addressed the question of whether or not he would support a ban on anyone buying guns if they were on a no-fly list: "I would certainly take a very look at it," he said in December. "I would. I'm very strongly into the whole thing with Second Amendment. But if you can't fly, and if you have got some really bad -- I would certainly look at that very hard."

Trump has broken from the NRA's agenda in the past -- in 2000, he wrote, "I support the ban on assault weapons and ... a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun."

And after the 2012 Sandy Hook slaughter resulted in the deaths of 20 schoolchildren and teachers, Trump praised President Obama for a speech calling for stricter gun laws.

Since the Orlando shooting, Hillary Clinton, Trump's presumptive general election opponent, has called for both a renewal of the expired assault weapons ban and a tightening of the terror watch loophole.

"If the FBI is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn't be able to buy a gun with no questions asked," Clinton said in a speech in Cleveland Tuesday. "You shouldn't be able to exploit loopholes and evade criminal background checks by buying online or at a gun show. Yes, if you are too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America."

The two viewpoints from the general election contenders are both backed by America's' public opinion. In the latest CBS News poll, conducted in the days following the Orlando shooting, a majority of Americans (57 percent) support stricter gun laws. Nearly nine in ten Americans support conducting background checks for every gun purchase. And about 57 percent of Americans favor banning assault weapons altogether.

If Trump wants white people to vote for him, he should re-think this whole banning guns thing.

Part that doesn't drop my jaw, is that I remember Trump stating somewhere that beurocracy in the form of lobbies were a major issue preventing America from becoming great again. Ofcourse the one lobby that actually does something to protect rights is the first one that must be convinced to empowered otherwise. As suspected Trump is a beurocratic regulatory heavyweight.

If elected I imagine a laundry list of similar immediate reactionary measures, with 0 reflection.

Afterall it will take quick work to "Make America Great Again"

Meanwhile, House Democrats called on Congress to vote on the “No Fly, No Buy” legislation to prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing guns.

Joseph Crowley, a Democrat from New York, laughed at the possibility that Trump could convince the NRA to finally support the legislation. “It’s just one more disagreement Congressional Republicans will have with Trump,” he said. “Its remarkable how much power the NRA has over the Republican Caucus.”

Xavier Becerra, House Democratic Caucus Chairman, said that it's time for more action than a moment of silence.

“It’s been a do-nothing congress when it comes to the issue of gun legislation,” Becerra said. “Between 2000-2014, 2000 terror suspects legally purchased guns in the US.”

Donald Trump sides with the one gun control measure the majority of Americans can agree on.

In the wake of the worst mass shooting in US history, Democrats are pushing to renew previously failed legislation that bans people from legally purchasing guns who are on terror watch lists and no fly lists. Now, the presumptive Republican nominee announced his support for the legislation on Wednesday.

“I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
