This Orwellian Technology Automates Censorship And Is Even Worse Than It Sounds
29 June 2016 GMT

As people around the world struggle to come to terms with the recent years’ rise in terrorist attacks — and on the heels of a mass shooting in Orlando that left 49 people dead — many are looking to social media platforms to up their game in the battle against online radicalization.

Now, a computer scientist claims to have developed an algorithm that can permanently remove extremist content from the Web — before it has a chance to go viral.

“It is no longer a matter of not having the technological ability to fight online extremism,” Dr. Hany Farid, of Dartmouth, told International Business Times, “it is a matter of the industry and private sector partners having the will to take action.”’

“Every image, every video, every audio, has a distinct signature that we can extract from it. It’s a lot like human DNA,” Dr. Farid said on MSNBC. “So that when an image comes in, we have flagged it as child pornography, extremism, violence, calls to violence. So we extract the signature, and then we simply scan everything that comes in and compare it against that signature, and when we get a hit, that content is not allowed online.”

Funded by Microsoft and in collaboration with the nonprofit think tank Counter Extremism Project, Farid is now calling on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to adopt his technology, which he claims will be ready to roll out in a matter of months.

For its part, the United States government — which has long called upon tech companies to aid authorities in combating the radicalization of ordinary citizens — is fully on board with Farid’s approach..............

Some fucking good news for a change, if one is on Twitter at least.

Further confirmation, seemingly near total avoidance in first pages of Bing and Google news searches of mainly corporate journalism, even from a Bing general search! lol

One of the few ways AI was serving the public before the Fed US intelligence agencies worked for and 'advised' destruction of functional supportive algorithm search and recommendation on most big corporate social media sites the last 6 or 7 years.

Heck not everyone wants things to function or be truthful, Twitter can still give its users the option to self select CIA/FBI/ADL/corporate advertising cages. Heck in the future users could actually even choose themselves to select an algorithm that reasonably and logically removes hatful speech, rather than speech the CIA/FBI/ADL/corporations are scared of.

The Twitter algorithm will be made open-source next week. The move could effectively bring more transparency to the social media platform.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 21, 2023
“Prepare to be disappointed at first when our algorithm is made open source next week, but it will improve rapidly!” Musk wrote.

This is not the first time that Musk has spoken about making Twitter open source. Musk has referenced an open-source Twitter several times over the past months. The CEO has also noted that he aims to make Twitter one of the most transparent platforms in the industry...

“I’m worried about de facto bias in ‘the Twitter algorithm’ having a major effect on public discourse. How do we know what’s really happening?” Musk wrote then.

Rutgers University professor and social media hate speech expert Thomas Davidson previously informed Insider that an open-source algorithm could actually help the social media platform counter extremist speech. It could also help researchers identify how extremist speech spreads.

This part actually makes it long term more dangerous, by twitter open sourcing censorship algorithm programming, Musk actually turbocharge its development. It will lead to more efficient censorship algorithms to counter “extremism”. A bit like how private open source cryptocurrency development is leading to more efficient central bank issued cryptocurrency that monitors its usage and the users…

Society creating a demand. I predict an app will soon be developed that you submit your words to for sufficient scrambling to defeat the censors. To decipher a key would be needed, the reverse operation is performed and the original message is displayed.

I mentally have to perform this operation on statute law all the time. Statutes are written in CODE. Leagalise. Not really English and intended to confuse. Here are several examples.

Code:. "Within this state" ...meaning "the federal areas within the EXTERIOR BOUNDARIES of the state"

Code "understand"....meaning "consent"

Code "shall" ...meaning "may"

Code "plural" ...meaning "singular"

Code "male" ...meaning "female" or "gender neutral"

Code "Federal" ....meaning "National Socialist"

Code "Money" ...meaning "Debt"

Code "Citizen" ...meaning "Subject"

Code "Arm"....meaning "Regalia"

Code "President" ... meaning "Cesear"

Code "Me" ...meaning "Everyone but me"

Code "Food" ...meaning "Chewing gum"

Code "Safe" ...meaning "Fatal"
