HOUSTON (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old girl took her grandmother's car for a joyride with her 7-year-old sister, striking other vehicles as she led police on a high-speed chase north of Houston.

The grandmother reported her car stolen Thursday. A Conroe (KAHN'-roh) officer spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the girls sped away. A chase ensued, with the girls hitting at least two other vehicles.

Montgomery police Sgt. Becky Lehn told KTRK-TV in Houston that the stolen car reached top speeds before OnStar took control and slowed it to about 60 mph then brought it to a stop at a high school.

The older girl was taken into custody and could be charged with evading arrest.

12 y.o.'s are unable to engage in contracts. A parent or guardian must be present. They will be the ones charged. In some instances it is way better for the kids to not put in an appearance.

On Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 5:28 hours, Conroe Police Officers were dispatched to an attempt to locate after receiving information from OnStar that a vehicle entered as stolen was in our jurisdiction.

The vehicle was reported to possibly be involved in a kidnapping of a 12 year old and 5 year old who are residents of Montgomery County, Texas. Conroe Officers located the vehicle in the 12000 block of West Davis and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle fled west on Hwy 105 for approximately 10 miles, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. The fleeing vehicle side swiped a motorist causing minor damage.

There were no reported injuries to occupants of either vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop in the Montgomery High School parking lot after it was disabled remotely by OnStar. The only occupants of the stolen vehicle were the two children.

The 12 year old was the driver. Neither child suffered any injuries. The juvenile driver was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff Office for Theft of Property over 30, 000 which is a third degree felony.

The case is still under investigation. Further charges are pending.

Video footage of the pursuit will not be released due to the ongoing investigation.

OnStar also gets to listen in on all conversations in an OnStar equipped automobile. Isn't that loving?
