I'm not aware of anyone else making such a product. I think they might be the first ones.

With this machine, you can make your own Mountain House style food bags. But from meals you cook in your own kitchen.

This machine costs $3k, which in my opinion is very cheap for what it does.

You could preserve 100% of a garden harvest, meat, etc, with this.

After you freeze dry the food, simply seal it in a mylar pouch with an oxygen absorber inside. The oxygen absorber sucks up all the oxygen, and leaves only inert gases present.

would be good if a local co-op or something had one you could book for a while to do your stuff. I have no idea how freeze drying works.

Nice idea but I just bought a year's worth of the packed and sealed stuff.

Hasn't Ron Paul been doing commercials for these things?

You know I think this thing would be great for a single guy.

You could buy large amounts of food at discount (in other words, packages of food from Costco) then make 2 gallons of food at a time and freeze dry it in small portions.

Then you'd never have to cook. Just grab a couple bags of whatever you want and you are good. Zero waste, zero leftovers, zero work/time during the week. Low cost because of the large portions.

Just throw the food in either mylar bags or mason jars. You could eat directly out of a mason jar, just add hot water to it.

Taking a short trip? You can take all the food with you and avoid spending money eating at questionable places. Want to put in a ton of hours at work? Your diet won't suffer. Go hiking or camping? Easy.

I'm not necessarily even talking about preps here, just being more efficient at preparing and eating food. Healthy and low cost food.

Anyone agree with this assessment?

For a single guy I agree, but this would be harder for a family. Also, the freeze dried stuff may get tiring after a while. Freshly cooked meals taste better no matter what they are.
