SenateForty-four members of the United States Senate voted Wednesday to block “A bill to ensure that State and local law enforcement may cooperate with Federal officials to protect our communities from violent criminals and suspected terrorists who are illegally present in the United States.”

The bill introduced by Sen. Patrick Toomey (R-Pa.), known as the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act (S. 3100), failed to get the necessary 60 votes needed to bring it to the floor of the Senate for a straight up or down vote. The vote in the Senate to kill S. 3100 came one year after a seven-time convicted felon, Francisco Sanchez, killed Kate Steinle as she walked with her father along San Francisco’s waterfront. Sanchez was on that pier last July 1 precisely because of sort of dangerous sanctuary policies that are in place in San Francisco and many other jurisdictions around the country.

Here is the list of the 44 senators who killed the bill that might keep other innocent Americans from being killed by criminal aliens who roam the streets due to dangerous sanctuary policies. Perhaps their constituents should ask them why.

Map: Over 200 'sanctuary cities' in 32 states and D.C.

There are over 200 "sanctuary cities" in 32 states that give safe harbor to illegal immigrants, even violent ones with felony records like the man accused of killing a San Francisco woman last week, according to a new analysis (http://cis.org/Sanctuary-Cities-Map).

The Center for Immigration Studies (http://cis.org/Sanctuary-Cities-Map) on Wednesday posted a map of the cities. On their website, they reported:
"More than 200 cities, counties and states across the United States are considered sanctuary cities. These state and local jurisdictions have policies, laws, executive orders, or regulations allowing them to avoid cooperating with federal immigration law enforcement authorities. These 'cities' ignore federal law authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to administratively deport illegal aliens without seeking criminal warrants or convictions from federal, state, or local courts."

According to CIS and another website, Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC, Washington, D.C., and multiple cities around the nation's capital are included where local police forces are told to not cooperate with federal authorities.

Which cities fit the definition can be open to debate. Jessica Vaughan, CIS director of policy studies, who helped pull the map together, said the number could go over 300.

"One could also argue that any jurisdiction that provides drivers licenses, or welfare benefits, or public housing, or municipal ID cards is a sanctuary," she explained.

The letter in front of their state says most of what you need to know. Only one "R" voted against it, and he is from Obama's IL.

Across the U.S., there are over 300 cities, counties, and states that are considered "sanctuary cities". These jurisdiction protect criminal aliens from deportation by refusing to comply with ICE detainers or otherwise impede open communication and information exchanges between their employees or officers and federal immigration agents.

Update on Sanctuary Jurisdictions

By Jessica Vaughan
In the absence of federal action, sanctuary jurisdictions remain as a significant public safety problem throughout the country. These policies have resulted in the release of more than 10,000 criminal aliens that ICE was trying to deport, allowing these offenders to remain in the community and commit more crimes. In addition, these policies obstruct vital communication between local and federal law enforcement agencies, and interfere with ICE's ability to enforce immigration laws.
Some states wisely have moved to prevent local governments from imposing sanctuary policies. In October, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed a new law prohibiting sanctuary ordinances, requiring full cooperation with ICE, and barring acceptance of unverifiable forms of identification, such as the consular ID cards (http://cis.org/node/484) issued by some foreign governments. Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has said he will withhold certain state law enforcement funding (http://keranews.org/post/gov-abbott-says-hell-deny-sanctuary-cities-some-funds) from any jurisdictions in his state that become sanctuaries, and promised to push for legislation in the next session. The most prominent target for the action likely will be Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez (http://latinocentric.com/governor-abbott-threatens-action-against-sheriff-lupe-valdez-over-ice-detainers/), who established a new sanctuary policy on September 1, 2015.
Fed up with the unwillingness of California leaders to reverse sanctuary laws even after a string of violent acts committed by criminal aliens drew national attention to the problem, a California citizens group has launched a new ballot initiative (https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/initiatives/pdfs/15-0099%20%28Immigration%29.pdf) that would overturn the state sanctuary law that went into effect on January 1, 2014. The initiative would direct all law enforcement agencies and jurisdictions to cooperate fully with ICE in a variety of ways. It also would clarify that all law enforcement officers in the state may inquire about a person's immigration status.
Outgoing Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, who had long maintained obstructive sanctuary policies, undid them before leaving office in December 2015. One of the very first acts of new Mayor Jim Kenney, within hours of his swearing-in, and after accepting some homemade bread baked by illegal aliens, was to insttute a new sanctuary policy (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/politics/20160105_Kenney_takes_office_Monday.html).
In addition to Dallas County, other new sanctuary jurisdictions include the city of Lawrence, Mass., and five counties in Kentucky. In addition, in December, a committee of the Massachusetts legislature approved a strict and far-reaching sanctuary bill (http://www.bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_politics/2015/08/beacon_hill_forces_line_up_for_fight_over_sanctuar y_protections).
According to government documents I have obtained through FOIA requests and other channels, and independent research, I have been able to determine that there are over 300 sanctuary jurisdictions in the United States. These are cities, counties, and states that have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, or other practices that protect criminal aliens from deportation — either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from complying with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, or otherwise impeding open communication and information exchanges between their employees or officers and federal immigration officers.
A detainer is the primary tool used by ICE to take custody of criminal aliens for deportation. It is an order or notice to another law enforcement agency that ICE intends to assume custody of an alien, and it includes information on the alien's previous criminal history, immigration violations, and potential risk to public safety or security. ICE currently issues three kinds of detainers. Some jurisdictions pick and choose which kinds of detainers they will accept and respond to.

Gee you'd think Iowa were the criminal sanctuary for the planet, if it weren't a first in primaries state.
