(CBS) –A new study by the University of Illinois Chicago revealed some bleak employment numbers for African American and Hispanic youths.

The study from UIC’s Great Cities Institute found that 47 percent of 20-24 year old African American men in Chicago were out of school and out of work in 2014.

Across the state, the number was 44 percent, much higher than the national average of 32 percent of young black men.

The numbers are startling when it comes to teen unemployment for black teens at 88-percent. The stats are nor encouraging for Hispanics either, at 85 percent unemployed.

Forty-seven percent of 20- to 24-year-old black men in Chicago, and 44 percent in Illinois, were out of school and out of work in 2014, compared with 20 percent of Hispanic men and 10 percent of white men in the same age group, according to the report from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Great Cities Institute.

The numbers for black men are far worse in Chicago and Illinois than elsewhere in the country. In Los Angeles and New York City, 31 percent of black 20- to 24-year-old men were out of school and out of work, in line with the national average of 32 percent.

Counting men and women together, 41 percent of black 20- to 24-year-olds were out of work and out of school in Chicago in 2014, compared with 18.7 percent of Hispanics and 6.7 percent of whites in the same age group.

I have been shopping at Lowes and Home Depot a lot over the last 6 months doing home improvement jobs, looking and checking for best prices.

These two giant retailers are packed with Hispanic buyers /workers.

On occasion you will see a negro shopper in these places, but it's mostly White and Hispanic construction workers.

I'm seeing more and more that Hispanics are extremely hard workers, don't want to be on welfare or unproductive, like the blacks who just want to collect their welfare checks.

On occasion you will see a negro shopper in these places, but it's mostly White and Hispanic construction workers.

I'm seeing more and more that Hispanics are extremely hard workers, don't want to be on welfare or unproductive, like the blacks who just want to collect their welfare checks.


I noticed a similar trend the last few years I worked my truck on highway construction. A very large percentage of the highway construction crews are hispanic. It is not confined to the just the labor crew either.

Minimum wage laws hurt blacks and black teenagers the worst. What could an untrained black teenager do that is worth $15/hour? Most don't know this but the first minimum wage laws were specifically intended to price out the negroes. In this regard the minimum wage laws are very successful.
