The following statement was issued today by State District Court Kerry Neves who presides over the 10th District Court in Galveston.
"I have just signed an Order which goes into effect immediately in this Court.
"No plea bargain agreements for deferred adjudication or probation involving Assault on a Public Servant, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest or any other offense in which a member of Law Enforcement is threatened or placed in danger will be approved.
"In the event the State and the defense attorney believe there is compelling evidence to support such an agreement, the Court may consider it if presented with such evidence.
"Approval will require a sincere written statement of apology to the officer or officers involved, and agreement from the officer or officers involved to the plea bargain agreement.
"Prior criminal history will paly a big role in whether any such agreement is approved.
"If approved, the defendant will be required to read the statement in open Court.
"I may only be one person, one Judge, but I will do what I can to stop the disrespect and aggressive behavior against our police officers. If you are an officer, spouse of an officer or know an officer, make sure they know of this change in my Court".

Evading and resisting are two charges which cops are real quick to throw at people despite there being nothing there. This is not good, more police state nonsense.

Agreed, there is plenty of video where the suspect is already handcuffed with an officer beating him yelling "stop resisting."

I've got a better idea, no plea bargains PERIOD. Imagine how many cases they'd have to drop if they actually required actual trials instead of the plea bargains.

It does come in handy if they need a co-conspirator to testify against the other for a lesser sentence.

The judge says:
"...but I will do what I can to stop the disrespect and aggressive behavior against our police officers."
Well, judge Kerry Neves (of Galveston, Texas), you could start by admonishing LAW ENFORCEMENT personnel that not one incident of official ABUSE against the public will be tolerated - that alone would go the distance towards reversing the growing DISRESPECT (well earned) the public has for law enforcement hoodlums.
Quite aside from what I (and others, I'm sure) have read about, I myself (along with my father and brother) witnessed (first hand) the police beating the hell out of a motorist while holding him down on the trunk of his car, with his wife and child in the car screaming their heads off (in utter terror). These "officers" (a nice word for BULLIES, HOODLUMS, GANGSTERS, etc.) bludgeoned him with abandon, as if they feared not one whit as to any consequences. The beating continued way beyond any semblance of need to subdue an unarmed man. If this smart-ass judge (bless his "honor's" little heart), would concentrate on episodes where the public gets abused way beyond any legitimate need to "take into custody", then, maybe, just maybe, the public might find themselves regaining the respect they USED to have for PEACE OFFICERS (many many decades ago).
As for the true criminals we have running around (who will NEVER have respect), they can be dealt with only so far as to have them safely in custody - after that, any further violence against them is nothing but criminal assault by officialdom, breeding the widespread contempt held by the public against law enforcement personnel (and corrupt judges sitting high on their horse atop "the bench").
