Kerry Says Air Conditioners and Refrigerators Pose Same Threat as WHAT?


Air conditioners and refrigerators pose as big a threat to “life on the planet” as the threat of terrorism, Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday.

Kerry was in Vienna negotiating a global climate deal to phase out chemicals used as refrigerants in basic household and commercial appliances such as air conditioning and refrigerators, called hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs. The chemicals are a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions that many scientists blame for contributing to global warming.

Kerry made the remarks as part of a pep talk for negotiators working through the weekend to amend a 1987 treaty called the Montreal Protocol to deal with the chemicals……

About 1993 the USA banned R-12 freon because it was destroying the ozone layer. Our dealership was forced to biy a refrigerant recovery machine and have certified technichians required to keep a log of the R-12 recovered. It sounds good in theory, but most of the trucks which came in for service were because the air conditioner wasn't working due to the freon had leaked out due to some componnent failure. Most wrecking yards cut the hoses and let the gas escape into the atmosphere.

WHEREAS, it is the duty of our elected and appointed government officials to lead by example,

THEREFORE, we call upon the U.S. Department of State to remove air conditioning from all property that the Department owns, rents, or otherwise employs, including but not limited to embassies, consulates, office buildings, etc., all vehicles owned and/or operated by the Department, and any other property, real or movable, owned, rented, or otherwise employed by the Department.
