Brussels deal keeping Britain from being fully independent of EU sparked fury

A DEAL that could stop Britain from fully leaving the EU sparked anger last night.

UK and EU sources say Brussels could offer Britain temporary curbs on immigration in return for access to the single market. But angry Brexit (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/brexit) campaigners accused politicians in Europe of failing to accept that Britain has voted to cut ties totally with the EU.

Earlier Tory MPs dug their heels in and insisted they will not let Theresa May (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/theresa-may) backslide on Brexit by surrendering on immigration control and trade.

Mrs May, who last week discussed the referendum result with her French and German counterparts, has said she does not expect to trigger formal EU talks this year but insists that “Brexit means Brexit”, even though she supported the Remain side in the referendum.

Yesterday British and EU sources said a deal was being considered in Europe under which the UK would be exempted from Europe’s free movement obligations for up to seven years while maintaining access to the single market.

Britain would be expected to continue paying into the EU budget, although probably less than now, and would not have a say in single-market rules. British officials stressed it was still “very early days” but that some form of “emergency brake” on migration was one of the ideas “on the table”.
Nathalie Tocci, director of the Rome-based Institute for International Affairs, who is also an adviser to EU “foreign minster” Federica Mogherini, said she thought the Italian government would back an emergency brake in order to keep Britain in the single market.

It would, though, have to be time-limited to comply with EU rules. But the package would be highly controversial with those who backed Brexit, who want our duty to accept the free movement of people to be ended and for Britain to come out of the single market.

Tory former cabinet minister John Redwood said: “The UK did not recently vote for a slightly beefed-up version of David Cameron’s (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/david-cameron)attempted renegotiation with the EU. “We voted to leave, to take back control of our laws, our money and our borders. “The rest of the EU is missing the point. There should be no negotiation over taking back control.”
Fellow Tory MP and veteran Eurosceptic Sir Bill Cash dismissed the idea of staying in the single market, declaring: “You cannot remain. If you’re out, you’re out.” Jayne Adye, director of Get Britain Out, said: “The EU seems to have been shaken by Brexit. But we must have control of our own borders and not a time-limited sticking plaster.”

As yesterday’s Sunday Express reported, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/boris-johnson) has said he is increasingly confident Britain can get a deal with the EU which both allows free trade and cuts immigration.

Meanwhile, it emerged that a group of Tory MPs met last week to discuss how to ensure Mrs May delivers on migration control and severs full links with the single market.

One source said: “We don’t trust the PM. She’s got off to a good start but the jury is out. The idea of an ongoing relationship with the EU is not acceptable.”

One MP at the meeting suggested threatening to disrupt legislation if the PM went in the wrong direction. And Tory Eurosceptic Steve Baker, who was named chairman of the group, said MPs wanted to be “constructive,” and would be supportive if Mrs May kept her promises.

Tory Party chairman Patrick McLoughlin, asked if Brexit would end mass migration from Europe as many voters believed, said people had different reasons to vote to leave “but it does mean that we have to have control of our borders, yes”.

Amid speculation Mrs May could call a snap general election to capitalise on Labour turmoil, Mr McLoughlin promised Article 50 would be triggered first.

Tory MP Peter Bone said he was reassured by Mrs May’s appointment of key Eurosceptics to her Government: “Bringing in people like that has made it a lot easier for people like me to be more relaxed.”

The Daily Express is continuing its crusade, which was so instrumental in the referendum victory, to ensure the Government carries out the voters’ wishes.

Last week Theresa May said that the UK is not leaving the EU. It is their policy that UK stays and they will. She will not be triggering Article 50 and the 1972 EU integration Act, absolutely will not be touched e.g repealed.

There will be no Brexit under the UK Government.

Being no where near the UK I couldn't care less about it. I have my hands full just trying to stay on the right side of the law in the US. I consider the UK the business of the people who live there, not mine

I'm pretty much only interested in personal protectionism for myself and my family. I couldn't care less about the global economy. Not sure if you got the memo but the world ecomony is a shitshow. So much so that all the kings horses and all the kings men will never be able to put it all back together again. I certainly can do nothing to fix it so I've regrouped and am now concentrating on personal protection on a family level

I'm willing to find out how it doesn't work...what's the alternative?

Exactly!

Global Capitalism would be ideal, unfortunately its never existed for anyone other than Monopolists.

and from all apparent no Brexits the U. K. either, they intend to keep it a monopoly or atleast not enable the u. k. as a monopoly to compete.

guess, we'll see if it goes over as planned, maybe it is folly to quell or either create some rebellions?

Generally, I could give a rats ass about England, but this Brexit thing should show people that the EU experiment ( small scale one world government ) ain't gonna work. It can be equated to many things going on here in the U.S. such as regionalism, agenda 21
smart growth, heritage areas etc. Them getting out of the EU needs to remind us that we need to get out of the U.N.

98 per cent say NO to EU deal: Forget talks with Brussels and quit NOW, urges new poll

A NEW Daily Express online poll has revealed that 98 per cent of respondents - 3,548 people - want the historic Brexit vote to be enacted now instead of Britain being embroiled in months or years of talks with Brussels bureaucrats.

It comes amid alarm over comments by Theresa May (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/theresa-may) to Tory MEPs saying that there could be "months of negotiations" before Article 50 is triggered to even start freeing Britain from Brussels rule.

And last night it was clear that those who want to harm Britain have made underlined that they intend to use any delay in leaving the EU to inflict damage on the country.

European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/jean-claude-juncker) said that free trade could not happen without free movement while separatist Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made a speech “blackmailing” the rest of the UK into abandoning Brexit (http://www.express.co.uk/latest/brexit) or risk a second independence referendum.

Former Tory cabinet minister John Redwood has led a cross party group of MPs which has come up with a plan to get Britain out of the EU “in just a matter of weeks”.

The simple solution, also backed by Labour Leave, would be to trigger article 50 by repealing the 1972 European Communities Act and then informing the EU that the UK is no longer a member but intends to trade tariff free.

If the EU then decides to impose tariffs then Britain would respond but because the UK has a trade deficit with the EU of almost £24 billion a trade war would be more damaging to European countries especially Germany which could lose its biggest car market.

yes, there is no need for faffing about. Like the story said, kill the EU Communities Act and the job is done. Good to see people realise that. After they diminished the nearly 70% support for brexit down to a 52/48 split it gives the impression people might be undecided. Next step is riots in the street, because that's what it takes these days. Of course they know that, which is why they ALWAYS prepare for riots. It is where they ALWAYS take the people. But of course they don't care about "the people". That's why they are in politics. If they cared they would be in a charity or doing something useful and worthwhile.
