Interesting story - when my grandmother was in early stages of dementia, the nurse suggested testing for syphilis. She said no one ever thinks of a nice old lady having an SDT, but all nice old ladies were young once, and it can take decades for symptoms to show up.

Because the treponeme is exquisitely sensitive to the penicillin family, and the odds of a first worlder being exposed to a broad-spectrum antibiotic by the age of 30 years must be north of 99%. So.........syphilis doesn't live long enough to cause neurosyphilis, which typically takes 20-30 years to manifest.

I think the coke theory is stronger.

Further he is probably the most medically tested man in the world. Interesting I learned of an acquaintance having neuro-syphilis a couple of months ago, gay man, very much into natural healing, went blind and it was discovered he had neurosyphilis, he had been unwell for quite some time, but thought it was HIV/AIDS and was afraid of getting that diagnosis so didn't do anything until blind. Spent 10-12 days at hospital with anti-biotics and made a full recovery!
