AUSTIN, TX -- Five people were shot early Sunday along Sixth Street -- including one fatally wounded -- along Sixth Street, and a suspect is still at large, police said.
The shooting incident occurred ataround 2:17 a.m. in the 200 block of East Sixth Street a couple of blocks east of Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. By the time police arrived, a woman in her 20s was dead. Three others were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life-threatening injuires, and a fourth victim refused treatment, police said during an early morning press briefing to update the media.
Lt. Brian Manley said the usual crowds along the popular, bar-lined Sixth Street corridor added to the chaos at the scene. He was joined by Lt. Mike Benavides at the briefing.
"It was a very chaotic scene," Manley said. "A lot of people running in different directions with all the gunshots coming out."

Police have yet to detain a suspect, who they described as either a light-skinned black male or Hispanic man. They urged any members of the public with information to contact them, particularly those at the scene who may have taken footage on their cell phones that might prove helpful.
At about the same time as the incident on Sixth Street, another report of a shooting nearby led police to mistakenly issue an "active shooter" alert. But it was later determined that second shooting in the 800 block of Trinity Street -- just three blocks from the Sixth Street shooting -- was unrelated.
Police said no injuries were reported in the second shooting incident that occurred at about 2:25 a.m. in a Trinity Street Parking garage. In that incident, bystanders detained the shooter until police arrived to effect an arrest.
