Been there twice......1 winter.....1 summer.

Snow doesn't stick too much.......can't with winds approaching 60mph all the time. Used to have to tie 2 or 3 people together during numerous "white outs" just so we didn't lose someone out on the flight line.

Summers used to really suck. So much particulate in the air from fish processing that you could scrape it off your tongue with your fingernails. Nothing better than 6 months of fish smell all the time.

If you think that brings a tear to your eye, I watched several Death Metal bands play in the same park and didnt stop drinking Icelandic 'shine until the sun came up. They called it the Cultural Festival and Reykjavik completely shut down to motor traffic.

A friend of mine was stationed at Keflavik Naval Air Station back in the early 60's. He said the Icelandic girls were more than willing, but you had to dodge the Icelandic police and the shore patrol.
One more very important note is only white people were allowed on the base. No blacks, Mexicans or Orientals. The Icelanders knew their girls and only wanted white babies.
