Shami's containment area?

???

Well, good on Shami. I don't have a dog in this fight, but the alt right has me curious. I want to learn more about it.

A lot of us are not 4chan people. Get this message out, imo.

1) GSUS only has 94 "Active" members and usually less than 20 posting at any given time.

2) GSUS already has 34 Sections and most of them never have any posts.

All points on target. To a degree, we are victims of the internet's success. The amount of competing web content is almost infinite. There must be over 4 billion internet users worldwide. We are one of a small handful of forums/blogs devoted to gold and silver and freedom, and we have attracted only 94 active members. Is it the lack of public awareness of the metals and the debt crisis yada yada? Or perhaps we have become, through intellectual and cognitive inbreeding, a village of virtual inbred idiot savantes, who have chased truth from the village.

chased truth from the village....or chased the village from truth?

JQP already correctly explained that nobody is interested in Precious Metals or Forums anymore. At this very moment GIM2 only has 31 members yacking about everything except precious metals.

The topic at hand currently in this thread remains why do we need a new separate ALT-RIGHT Section.

"Containment" doesn't sit right with me. But an alt-right forum, why not, most would probably keep posting their threads in general discussion anyway...

to registered & logged in members, the subforum distinction should be moot, as long as we use

New Posts (http://gold-silver.us/forum/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post)

to check the latest. I have it bookmarked & pinned where it's always clickable without hassle. However, for the unregistered & un-logged-in, that "search" doesn't work; and AFAIK they need to select a subforum first, then see its threads. So the sub's outside of "General Discussion" will see fewer eyeballs of unreg'd lurkers. The threads will still come up in joogle searches and so on.

Alt-right belongs in General Discussion. It's a mainstream topic.

i noticed the general getting overrun with it too. it's a temporary thing, with killary and nyc media control room's new attacks....peak alt right has come and gone. i can't stop thinking that the hateful rhetoric from killary/nyc is possible prelude to a(nother) fflag

Alt-Right™ http://gold-silver.us/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=4453&stc=1&d=1361024018 belongs in General Discussion. It's a (((mainstream))) http://gold-silver.us/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=4453&stc=1&d=1361024018 topic.

yep. da dinjoo nuffins co-opted it, christened it, & officially introduced it to J6P (http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?90358-Alt-Right%99-in-a-Nutshell-Cringefest).

The topic at hand currently in this thread remains why do we need a new separate ALT-RIGHT Section.

We don't. We have nowhere near enough traffic to justify so many Sections and Sub-sections in this forum. Here's what's going to happen: everyone is still going to post in General Discussion, and this little "alt right" sub-forum is going to be unused and empty, just like all of the other overly specific sub-forums that nobody uses.

The idea with this subforum is as the Alt Right topics in General die down, we can move them here, and collect them. Then when new members trickle in (or regular members who want to review old threads) they can come here to see the collection. In General they will be lost forever once completed. I am not discouraging posting Alt Right topics in General, but if this forum starts growing then discussions may start here too. Finally new members as they do come in may like seeing an Alt Right subforum.

GSUS is still on the old glitchy 4.2.0 version. Maybe your GSUS Support Department can finally upgrade us to the most recent 4.2.5 (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum/vbulletin-4/vbulletin-4-installations-and-upgrades/4349808-vbulletin-4-2-4-vb-4-2-5) version?

When they are not busy moving orphan threads into the new ALT-RIGHT Section...

I don't mind moving threads as part of forum maintenance. I don't do it very often but can see JQP's point. One thing I can't do is upgrade the forum software. A lot of us have been asking JQP to do this for a long time now. GSUS needs a tune up.

:) GSUS already had 33 mostly-empty Sections and doesn't need this new 34th.

I wouldn't want to move threads from general to here, because they can't be bumped a few years later when something relevant happens.

However, a section is good if a user wants to post material mainly for archival purposes rather than generating discussion. For example, posting tons of stuff that we all know and agree with, but simply having backup copies of and a database of their content.

But I wouldn't expect actual discussion to take place here.

Yes the discussion sure died down quickly AFTER you moved it here. I doubt no-one will be interested in coming to this forum to read the Alt-right non-discussion.

WHY can't you do something useful with the little time you spend with this ugly step child of yours (GSUS), like updating the forum software? You have been asked this hundreds of times, and you haven't even aknowledged the existence of the question...
