CHICAGO — As Chicago police battle surging violence, the union representing rank-and-file officers continues to urge officers not to work overtime shifts over Labor Day weekend.

The request from the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police comes as the city is reeling from 86 homicides in August, the deadliest month in 20 years.

Friday, September 02, 2016 VRI Amnesty (https://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/2016/09/vri-amnesty.html) So if you've been suspended from VRI for 30, 60, 90 days for whatever reasons, the infamous Henny Penny has been offering to wipe the slate clean if you volunteer to work Labor Day weekend.

We have a hard time believing she's still employed. And given any sort of responsibility. She's also the one threatening a CR and a three month suspension from VRI if you scheduled yourself for Labor day and then cancelled for whatever reason - even if it was within the time allotted by Order.

But evidently this is true. We've gotten a few e-mails, a number of comments, and a phone call ourselves. Someone also sent us an audio file that we could listen to of the VRI Office calling to make the offer. We aren't sure how to post audio files, but it's amusing to hear the Department begging this Officer to work.

There's already an Order out cancelling days off for teams. It also states Districts with boxes will be covering the boxes due to the excessively low number of volunteers. That alone should provoke the media into looking at how short handed the Department is.

I was absolutely stunned and very proud when i saw the roster for this weekend. (Recalling from memory) 2Sep , 47 officers ; 3Sep , 27 officers; 4Sep , 38 ; 5Sep 28 officers.

All in all we showed the city that we can stick together. And to the scabs, you should be embarrassed.
