I just tried it on my iPad. It wouldn't play, like it locked up. Maybe because my iPad is low on memory. The second time I tried it it worked. I don't notice any difference in quality between it and the VLC player.

When you click the link to the .webm file it should open a dialog box:

Click the "open in" and you should see the icon for the app in the list of apps. I have VLC, it appears as well as "open in". I amthinkingitis thedefault app for Apple.

Maybe try the vlc app. Both work equally well on my ipad. VLC stores all the links that have been viewed. Maybe Player Xtreme does as well. I have only viewed this 4chan link with it.

I've searched for this for hours and did not find this solution described anywhere, so i thought i share it here.

You need to install the VLC Web Browser Plugin. You can download it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html (second link)

This way when you open a webm file on a new tab or window, it will play the video in the browser with the embeddable VLC player.
