Man shot, killed by Wyoming officer was Sudan native

Officer shot and killed Sadiq Bishara-Abaker Idris, 25, on Wednesday evening

Authorities said Idris, who had been looking at guns, stole a semi-automatic pistol and fled on a bicycle. A Wyoming K-9 was brought in and led officers to the bike, which had been ditched.

The store declined to comment on what happened, but said the theft was captured on surveillance cameras.

Later, around 7:15 p.m., a man was seen walking with a gun in his back pocket near 32nd and Eastern Avenue, only about a mile from Al & Bob’s. Wyoming police say the officer spotted Idris and pulled over.

“The officer exited his patrol vehicle, gave orders to the suspect. The suspect reached for his handgun, pointed it at the officer and the officer fired his weapon in self-defense,” Wyoming police Capt. Kim Koster recounted at Wednesday’s press conference.

Idris died at the scene.

A person familiar with Idris said he was a refugee from Sudan and had come to the United States after first going to Egypt. He came to the United States in 2013.
