Ideally, one runs such things with a computer purchased with cash, a substantial distance away from one's home area, and never uses it for anything else...ever.

an OS on a virtual machine with a VPN service. Configure the whole thing as you want. Browsers, bookmarks, software as you want. Do not use it to access the net until you are done. Clone it. Load and run the OS as configured. Burn it each time you are done. Clone the clone and start fresh each time.

and yes, don't use Gmail.
And maybe do something about your gateway point onto the net. Router mods etc.

And a lot of them will have been using these forums without any shielding. if I was one of those alt-er's I'd be dumping my system and buying a new one. The big problem is that not every one of them will do it. So you will have many "weakest" links which can leave you open when they contact you - IF you have direct contact with them via back/other channels.

No one should be using skype. If you want to use something roll out your own install of jabber or something and have contacts use that. There's a ton of other options.

The thing to remember is the discussion was released after the action was taken so people were already compromised. Now no one is your friend.
