3 Dead, Many More Wounded in 'Chaotic' Shooting During West Adams Party

One person was taken in for questioning and two more people were being sought after a shooting during a house party in the West Adams area killed three people and injured several others early Saturday morning, police said.

When officers responded to the shooting at around 12:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of Rimpau Boulevard, around 50 people were running from the scene that was described as "chaotic," said Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department.

“It’s a bloody scene with shell casings everywhere,” LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado said.

There were about 50 people inside the restaurant in the 2900 block of Rimpau Boulevard when an argument broke out, Preciado said.

Three men left the restaurant and returned with firearms and began shooting at another group. Others at the restaurant also opened fire, and some diners were caught in the crossfire, Preciado said.

An off-duty Houston police officer was involved in a shooting in southwest Houston on Thursday night.

Family and neighbors identify the man as Casey Brown.

Brown's mother told KPRC2 she was not aware of his current condition, but said Brown was in surgery at Ben Taub Hospital late Thursday.

A spokesman for HPD identified the officer as J. Loosmore, assigned to South Gessner Patrol Unit.

A spokesman said the officer lives in the neighborhood.

According to investigators, the officer and his wife were walking their three dogs when Brown's German shepherd attacked one of their dogs. Police said Brown's dog was unleashed.

After breaking up the dog fight, police said Loosmore returned to get information from Brown. Police said Brown would not answer the door and would not cooperate. Police said Loosmore then turned away from the house and said he was going to call 911.

During the exchange, police said Brown then exited the house and walked toward Loosmore, who turned and identified himself as an officer. Police said Brown then attacked Loosmore, "punching him in the head and chest," said Kese Smith, a spokesman for the Police Department.

"He feared he would lose consciousness," Smith said, continuing that Loosmore told them his vision was "graying out."

"He tells us that because he knew he was carrying a weapon with him, he was afraid that if he lost consciousness the suspect could continue to assault him or possibly take his weapon and do something worse," Smith said.

Smith said Loosmore called 911 and rendered aid until medics arrived after he shot Brown.

KPRC2 spoke with Brown's mother, who said a neighbor told her Brown did not initiate the fight. Rather, she said, the officer did.

Houston police told KPRC2 they were not aware of those allegations, saying witnesses they interviewed alleged Brown attacked the officer first.

Brown's mother described her son as quiet. She considered it outside his character to attack anyone.

Brown was unarmed. A spokesman told KPRC2 the only weapon of which he was aware, was the officer's gun.
