The National Debt: Why Fret Over Something That Doesn't Exist?

The public is lied to when it comes to the so-called national debt. They're clueless about it, as are most, if not all, of our lawmakers.

First off, there is no debt. The debt is dollars. The government spent $20 trillion more than it took away in taxes over the last 240 years, and those dollars, held by the non-government, comprise a big portion of the non-government's wealth. Nothing is "owed." It's owned, by us, the people.

Second, there is nothing to pay back. The money was paid, ended up in someone's bank account and now it's being held in the form of Treasuries. What's a Treasury? A Treasury is a dollar, the only difference being it's a dollar with a term (duration) and a coupon (interest payment). Why would people hold dollars in the form of Treasuries? To earn some interest, that's all. It's like saying, why would you put your money in a savings account as opposed to a checking account? Same reason, to earn interest. If you want it back in your checking account, you tell your bank and it switches it back from your savings account to your checking account.

That's how it works with the government, too. It "pays back" holders of Treasuries all the time. That's called a redemption and when Treasuries are redeemed the government simply instructs its bank, the Fed, to take back the securities and credit the individual's (or firm's or foreign government's or whomever's) bank account and, voila, it happens. Paid back. In fact, it happens so regularly and on such a big scale that it will totally blow your mind.

I am about to give you some numbers. Mind you, these are not numbers I made up or to which had some kind of top-secret access. Nor is this inside information that I am exposing. Rather, these are publicly available figures that you can get -- free -- right off the U.S. Treasury Department's website.

The resource is called the Daily Treasury Statement and it's really a fascinating document. It is posted daily on the Treasury's website and it's literally like looking at the checkbook of the federal government. Just like your checkbook, it has all the deposits and all the withdrawals, among other things. You can see everything. Every line item of spending (withdrawals) and every item of revenue (deposits) that runs through the government's accounts daily, monthly and yearly.

On this document there is a table -- Table III-A -- that gives all the redemptions of bills, notes, bonds and other securities the government redeems (pays back) every day, month and year.

If you go to the last statement of the fiscal year, Sept. 30, and you scroll down to that table I just gave you, Table III-A, you will see the government redeemed (paid back) $94.2 trillion in one year! I put a screenshot below.

Please note: All figures on the daily Treasury statement are in millions, so don't come back to me and say it was only $94.2 million. It's $94.2 million million. That's $94.2 trillion. See the image below.

Ninety-four point two trillion! In a single year. And nobody knew about this. Furthermore, the world didn't fall apart, the dollar didn't collapse, interest rates didn't spike, we had no inflation and everything was fine.

There is the proof, right in front of our noses, that the debt is meaningless. It's just a bunch of bookkeeping entries. Keystrokes. It's time we stop fretting over this. People need to educate themselves about what this debt is and how they are being manipulated and propagandized about it.

The debt is not a bad thing, it is an asset of the non-government; however, ignorant, cynical, corrupt, dogmatic and self-serving groups like the Pete Peterson Foundation and organizations like Fix the Debt are in the business of keeping Americans misinformed and getting them to act against their own interests. These groups are bad and need to be stopped.

People went crazy over my debt article. They were mad. They simply cannot accept the fact that there is really no debt. That they're being conned.

Everything's been paid for. In dollars. And those $20 trillion, net, of dollars spent by the Federal Government of the United Sates in excess of what it took away in taxes is being held in the form of Treasury securities, which themselves are just dollars in a different form. It is nothing for the government to exchange those for cash. The government can "print" any amount of money it wants.

I hate using the word print, because it's not how it happens; it happens by electronic keystroke, but I said print because that's how most people view it. That's the term they embraced. Now they'll say, Aha!...that causes inflation and hyperinflation and therefore, the value of the dollar is going to crash. We're going to be Zimbabwe or the Weimar Republic.

Not so fast.

In a modern, productive economy the "printing" of money does not lead to inflation or currency collapse. The frequently cited examples of Zimbabwe and Weimar are just wrong. Inapplicable. These were special cases, where productive capacity was either non-existent or usurped in some way.

Take a look at the chart below. It's the national debt of the USA against the dollar index.

The national debt went up by over 2,500% in the period represented in the chart and the dollar, when viewed against a broad basket of currencies, went up. There is zero correlation, at least zero inverse correlation. If you listened to the "hyperinflationists" and debt doomsday crowd, the dollar should have disappeared. It should have been like German marks in 1923. Never happened.

Same with inflation. Same with interest rates. Same with the economy. None of what the doomsayers have been saying has happened.

You can't keep repeating something and calling it truth when the empirical evidence is just not there. Your theories are broken. They are wrong. If you have any intelligence, you have to shed the false and misleading beliefs and start to question those who are propagating the lies and falsehoods. They are either intentionally ripping you off, or you are allowing their ignorance to be your guiding "light." Only problem is, it's not a guiding light at all.

Some people (but very few) were clever in response to my article because they actually took the time to review the Treasury statement that I posted and they noticed that the vast portion of redemptions (the stuff we "paid back") were labeled as "non-marketable government account series" securities, which means, securities that were owned by the trust funds: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

So this is another lie exposed. It's the lie that Social Security is going bankrupt and we have to cut benefits to seniors. Meanwhile, $86 trillion of the $94 trillion of total redemptions that took place last year were related to the trust funds. The trust funds got $86 trillion, but we're being told that 30 years from now there will be a shortfall of $4 trillion.

This is a pure lie. The reality is in front of our faces and we let con artists tell us that it's not so.

neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

The National government imposed by the 14th amendment is insurgent to the organic U.S. constitution. The conditions imposed by the 14th amendment are every bit as radical as any action ever taken by the confederate states.

If anything, the States were in "rebellion" right after the end of the Civil War because neither the northern nor the southern states recognized the colored newly freed slaves as "We the People" therefore Congress was forced to Amendment the Constitution (14th amendment) and pass an Act to give the freed slaves "rights" (Civil Rights Act of 1866)....this is not what you call an "insurgent" government".....the feds were not rebelling nor rising in revolt in amendment form nor rebelling in Act form, but helping the freed slaves enjoy the same rights as any white person.
Hence why theres a statute saying just that.

Depends on how you tend to classify. As those politicians in 1868 elected to bring up the topic of 'insurgent' and provided a disclaimer that debts so incurred were null and void then the insurgent classification gains a certain value by virtue of the legal notice. Anyway, as with any claim, you stake it and challenge anyone to prove that it is not so. To date no such proof has been provided. Just opinion. Or belief.



I recall you posted something about DeFacto governments somewhere but can't recall the specifics of it.
You get to determine what is de jure. The difference is
1) an oath
2) a performance bond
3)your acceptance of these two items.

Lacking these the office holder (ANY officeholder) is merely de facto. Now the acts of a de facto government employee are valid but if you happen to get damaged he/she has no protection against legal action.
